Madlock-Brown participating in national COVID data research collaborative

(January 8, 2021) - One of UTHSC s data scientists is applying her extensive expertise in informatics to a national effort to leverage big data in the fight against COVID-19. Charisse Madlock-Brown, PhD, MLS, a faculty member in Health Informatics and Information Management at UTHSC, is a co-lead for one of the clinical domain teams of the National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C). The N3C is a partnership among the National Center for Data to Health- and National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences-supported Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program hubs. It includes clinicians, informaticians, and biomedical researchers from more than 60 institutions working to turn data from hundreds of thousands of medical records from coronavirus patients into treatments and predictive analytical tools that can help address the evolving pandemic.

Kingston Workers Project launched by ET Foundation, UT hospital Special to The Oak Ridger The East Tennessee Foundation and University of Tennessee Medical Center are joining forces to provide complimentary evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment planning for workers who participated in the cleanup of the historic spill of coal ash at TVA’s coal-fired steam plant in Kingston, Tenn., that occurred on Dec. 22, 2008. “Through no fault of their own, these workers and their families have suffered greatly over the past 12 years, and we are extremely pleased that the University of Tennessee Medical Center has stepped forward to work with East Tennessee Foundation in helping determine the medical situation of the workers,” East Tennessee Foundation President & CEO Mike McClamroch said in a news release.

While many organizations have been able to sustain operations throughout 2020, donations are leveling off and the beginning of 2021 remains uncertain.
