As the travel industry is busy getting back on its feet, Travel Daily Media caught up with Damian Perry, managing director of Asia Pacific Region at Hurtigruten.
TD: What messages do you have for Asia Pacific region travel agents in the wake of COVID-19?
DP: As we witness high demand again, it’s time to change the conversation, and be proactive. It’s kicked in sooner than we anticipated and clients are committing into late 2021 and 2022. We see this in all markets, creating an extremely positive psychological shift, whilst injecting much-needed enthusiasm into our industry again.
TD: With a pandemic on your resume and unprecedented industry crisis, what lessons have you learnt about yourself as a leader?
Hurtigruten launches new digital magazine
February 2, 2021 9:38
Cruise operator Hurtigruten has launched a digital magazine, including a video element.
The announcement:
Hurtigruten, one of the world’s leading sustainable expedition cruise operators, has unveiled a new digital magazine with a difference.
Hurtigruten Magazine marks the first time the operator has expanded into publishing, engaging Australian publishing agency, Grin Creative, to develop and curate the digital magazine. Hurtigruten Magazine will be published quarterly and has been optimised for mobile phones, tablets and desktops.
Making full use of immersive videos and sound, the first issue of the magazine allows readers to tour Norway’s coastal kitchen with Danish food and travel blogger Anders Husa, embark on a visual journey to Antarctica with award-winning Australian travel photographer Dan Avila, and follow in the footsteps of Norwegian explorer Fridtjof Nansen.

As the federal government begins to roll out its COVID-19 vaccination strategy, Aussie travellers are snapping up cruise bargains, according to Hurtigruten.
Despite recent comments from health department boss Brendan Murphy that the country’s borders will remain closed until 2022, the expedition cruise operator has reported strong bookings for travel in late 2021 and into 2022.
“At the same time, we do see the repercussions of the poorly timed, unclear and inconsistent communication from policymakers and senior politicians and health advisors,” said Damian Perry, managing director of Hurtigruten for the Asia Pacific.
“The rhetoric and tone of the messages continue to sew doubt into travellers’ minds and will continue to drive a nail into the coffin of both local domestic and international tour operators, wholesalers and retailers, because of political motivations.
