TIRUPATI: The ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) is all slated to win and retain the Tirupati Lok Sabha seat as its candidate Dr M Gurumoorthy established a comfortable lead over the TDP and BJP by noon on Sunday. By 3:45 PM the YSRCP candidate so far received 2, 77,000 votes and is slated to win the Tirupati Lok Sabha by-elections with a huge majority. The counting of votes is still underway and the numbers of votes could increase further and the majority win.

The YSRCP candidate in his maiden election polled over 2.29 lakh votes as against about 1.33 lakh votes polled by his nearest Telugu Desam Party nominee Panabaka Lakshmi when 4.10 lakh votes were counted, according to Nellore District Collector and Returning Officer K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu.

With the Andhra Pradesh High Court dismissing the pleas for cancellation of the Tirupati Lok Sabha byelection on the charges of rigging by the ruling YSRCP, the stage is set for the counting of votes on Sunday.
Polling was held on April 17 for the byelection to the Tirupati Lok Sabha (SC) reserved constituency.

The intensity of the second wave of coronavirus did not come down even a wee bit in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh as the viral disease claimed 14 more lives and infected 1,794 more persons in a span of 24 hours.
The number of active cases inched closer to 20,000 in the region as over 1,133 persons in SPSR Nellore district and 661 persons in Prakasam district tested positive in the last 24 hours ending 9 a.m. on Friday, according to a health bulletin released by the State government.

Nellore gets 2,000 doses of Remdesivir with intervention of Minister
Coronavirus continued to rattle South Coastal Andhra Pradesh as six more patients succumbed to the viral disease while more than 1,300 got infected in a span of 24 hours, taking the number of active cases to over 11,000.
The toll rose to 1,179 in the region with SPSR Nellore district accounting for 572 deaths and Prakasam 607, according to the health bulletin released by the State government on Saturday night.
