Repoll at Penugodu as ballot box falls into water body
Amid the poll boycott call by the main opposition Telugu Desam Party, elections to the Mandal and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies were held in a peaceful manner in south coastal Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.
About 51% of the voters exercised their franchise in the polls held in Nellore and Prakasam districts, in strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols in the wake of spurt in cases in the region.
In Nellore district, 51.87% of 13.38 lakh voters exercised their franchise. The polling percentage in Prakasam district was put at 50.88%, the officials said.
Braving the scorching heat, people, wearing face masks and maintaining social distance, waited in queues at polling stations as the health workers scanned their body temperature with thermal scanners. The voters were also provided with hand sanitiser to clean their hands before they were allowed to the booths.

Amid tight security, civic polls were held in a peaceful manner fully adhering to COVID-19 guidelines, in the 11 urban local bodies in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.
The polling started on a dull note at 7.00 a.m. and picked up pace later in the day in the districts of Nellore and Prakasam. Officials said 75.51% of the voters exercised their franchise in Prakasam district. Addanki witnessed the highest poll percentage of 83.04% and Giddalur the lowest at 67.92%. The poll percentage was 81.4% in Chikamukurthi, 75.57% in Ongole, 75.60% in Chirala, 71.22% in Markapur and 76.25% in Kanigiri.

11 urban local bodies going to polls in South Coastal Andhra
The stage is set for the holding of civic polls in the 11 urban local bodies adhering to COVID-19 protocol in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.
“All arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of the elections,” said SPSR Nellore District Collector K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu while overseeing the distribution of polling material to the polling stations in the urban local bodies of Atmakur, Sullurpeta, Nayudupeta and Venakatagiri where 119 candidates were in the fray. The entire polling process would be webcast, he said and exhorted the voters to turn up in large numbers to exercise their voting right.
Good response to vaccination drive in South Coastal Andhra
Senior citizens and people aged above 45 with co-morbidities turned up in large numbers to the session sites set up across South Coastal Andhra Pradesh on Monday.
A 83-year-old man was among the 616 persons aged above 60 who took the jab at the Padurupalli Urban Health Centre in the city.
SPSR Nellore District Collector K.V.N.Chakradhar Babu oversaw the massive inoculation exercise and urged people in the the targeted age group to walk in to any of the session sites set up across the district including private hospitals.
As many as 1,429 persons, including health care workers, frontline workers took the jab till late on Monday, said Nellore District Medical and Health Officer S. Rajyalakshmi. A majority of the beneficiaries had made spot registration. As many as 209 persons took the second dose on Monday.

Fourth phase of the gram panchayat elections were held in a peaceful manner in the two districts of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.
However, intermittent showers due to depression in the Bay of Bengal and overcast sky all through the day brought down the voting percentage in Nellore district to 76% in the elections held in 12 mandals in Nellore Revenue Division for the 181 sarpanch and 1,527 ward member seats.
