Civic problems of Korangi discussed - Newspaper


KARACHI: Issues of Korangi Industrial Area would be resolved on priority basis, Administrator Laeeq Ahmed said while speaking as the chief guest at an event hosted by Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), said a statement.
He said that plantation campaign was going to be started from February 15 and more than 70,000 saplings would be planted under the campaign.
President of KATI Saleem uz Zaman, chairman of standing committee Zubair Chaya, Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan, Zahid Saeed, Masood Taqi, members of KATI and other industrialists were also present.
The administrator said two fire engines of KMC would remain in the area to deal with any eventuality. ....

Mauripur Expressway to give swift access to Karachi beaches: CM

The construction of the Mauripur Expressway and a link road leading to Korangi, the Hub water supply project, the project to supply three million gallons of water a day from the Dhabeji pumping station to the special economic zone, and the Lyari sewerage system project will be realised with public-private partnership.
The projects were given the green light during the Public-Private Partnership Policy Board’s 32nd meeting at the Sindh Chief Minister House in Karachi on Thursday with CM Syed Murad Ali Shah in chair.
The meeting was attended by ministers Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh, Syed Awais Qadir Shah, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Sohail Anwar Siyal, CM’s adviser Barrister Murtaza Wahab and legislator Ghulam Qadir Chandio. Workers hold rally for basic rights, better conditions - Pakistan


KARACHI: A large number of textile and garments factory workers staged a protest rally on Sunday against violation of labour laws in Sindh.
The rally, which started from Bilal Chowrangi in Korangi Industrial Area and culminated at the Karachi Press Club, was organised by the National Trade Union Federation (NTUF).
The protesting workers threatened to stage a sit-in in front of the Sindh Assembly if the worsening conditions at their workplaces were not improved immediately.
Carrying red flags, placards and banners, the protesters marched to make people aware of their grievances in the lead of veteran labour leader Gul Rehman and Textile Garments General Workers Union general secretary Nisar Ahmed Panhwar. ....

Workers decry govt’s failure to stop labour laws’ violations at workplaces

Criticising the government for its failure to stop the blatant violations of labour laws in the workplaces, labour leaders at a march on Sunday warned of staging a sit-in in front of the Sindh Assembly if the situation was not urgently corrected.
The National Trade Union Federation (NTUF) organised the march from Bilal Chowrangi in Korangi Industrial Area till the Karachi Press Club. A large number of textile and garment factory workers carrying red flags, placards and banners took part in the march. They also chanted slogans against the non-implementation of the labour laws at the workplaces. ....

NTUF demands immediate end of growing exploitation of workers

The National Trade Union Federation (NTUF) staged a sit-in at Bilal Chowrangi in front of a factory in Korangi Industrial Area Wednesday held against growing exploitation of workers and violation of labour laws.
A large number of workers carrying banners and placards attended the protest and raised slogans for their demands. Speakers, including NTUF leaders Nasir Mansoor and Comrade Gul Rehman, and Home-based Women Workers Federation leader Zehra Khan, said industrialists were engaged in brutal economic exploitation of workers.
“As per labour laws, it is mandatory to give written appointment letters to workers, but more than 95 per cent of workers are deprived of this legal right,” said Mansoor. “Without appointment letters, these workers cannot avail their legal and constitutional rights and privileges.” ....
