Staff Report
ASHLAND Chief Assistant Law Director and local attorney David Stimpert has announced his intent to run for judge of the Ashland Common Pleas Court.
The announcement Wednesday follows Judge Ronald Forsthoefel s decision to not seek reelection after serving for 12 years.
Stimpert graduated from the University of Akron School of Law in 2006, and practiced with the local law firm of Oxley & Poplar LPA until starting his own law firm in June 2008.
In 2012, Stimpert began working under Ashland Law Director Richard P. Wolfe and soon thereafter assumed the lead criminal prosecution duties for the City of Ashland.
Forsthoefel, 63, said he lacks the energy and the desire to expend the funds necessary to run a contested election campaign.
Our recommendation for U.S. House District 6 runoff
Republicans Susan Wright and Jake Ellzey are in the runoff election.

On the issues, there is not a lot of daylight between Republicans Susan Wright and Jake Ellzey. Both are conservatives who believe in limited government, Second Amendment rights, low taxes and personal responsibility. And both want to represent U.S. District 6 in Congress.
Although neither candidate was our choice in the May 1 special election, which drew 23 candidates, our recommendation in the runoff election on July 27 goes to Ellzey, 51, for the seat formerly held by Wright’s late husband, Ron Wright, who died from COVID-19 in February.
