Council rich list reveals top earners in south east London

A total of 65 individuals were paid in excess of £100,000 by councils in south east London, according to a rich list compiled by a right-wing pressure group.  The figures, for the 2019/20 financial year, have been published by the Taxpayers Alliance as part of its latest annual findings. Greenwich has the most top earners, 28 in total, the highest paid being Chief Executive Debbie Warren with a salary of £198,466.  In Bexley, 15 employees were included. Again, the Chief Executive topped the list in earnings, taking home £187,546.  A spokesperson for Bexley Council said: We have continued to reduce the number of senior officers in our structures and in the last year we have reduced the cost of our management structure by £900,000.

A banned drink-driver has been jailed for 18 weeks because of his history of offending. Neil Aston Beckford, aged 50, of Brandhall Court, Oldbury, admitted driving a silver Audi in Pound Road while over the limit. He also admitted driving whole disqualified and without insurance. He was ordered to pay £257 in costs. Other recent cases at the local magistrates courts include: An Oldbury teenager who breached a probation order by texting an abusive message has been fined £80 and ordered to pay £60 costs. Cain Joseph Keith-Alan Lees, aged 19, of Brennand Road, Brandhall, admitted the breach. A Stourbridge woman who discarded a cigarette in High Street must pay £482 in fines and costs for littering. Kim Wright, aged 23, of Spiral Court, Worcester Street, pleaded not guilty but was convicted in her absence.
