Howard: Finding housing solutions for our community

Valley Voices Last month I was able to attend Habitat on the Hill virtually with 700 Habitat for Humanity affiliates. Even from 1,800 miles, we had a powerful, collective voice that called for adequate, affordable housing. Elyse Howard Housing is a unifying issue. Habitat for Humanity International CEO Jonathan T.M. Reckford started the conference reminding us that housing is a nonpartisan issue: Everyone can identify with the need for a safe place to live, where they can thrive and contribute to communities that nurture all residents. We shared ideas, listened with intent and the Habitat network conducted 400 Hill Day meetings with members of Congress and staff. While Habitat for Humanity is known for building homes, we are also strong advocates for home ownership advocating for policy solutions to advance access to safe, decent and affordable homes.

The operation said it would partner with the local Humane Society for pet adoption and surrender services. Batson’s Corner/Eagle Pharmacy was named Eagle Chamber of Commerce business of the year. Seven Hermits Brewing announced plans to relocate to a larger Eagle Ranch location. 10 years ago Eagle Valley High School students presented the musical “Hairspray.” Eagle native son Brad Gamble broke the NCAA Division II heptathlon record. Gamble was a student/athlete at Chadron State College, attending for his final year of track and field eligibility.

Vail Trailblazer award honors the Hanlons

Photo courtesy of the Hanlon family Sally and Bill Hanlon have spent more than 50 years serving as Vail’s ambassadors in a way that helped define the community as a world class ski town and showed a unique and caring style to welcoming guests and new community members to town. The Hanlons have been selected as recipients of the 2021 Vail Trailblazer Award, presented by the Vail Town Council. The annual Vail Trailblazer Award honors those who contribute their time and talent to make Vail a great resort community. The Hanlons will be recognized at the March 16 evening Vail Town Council meeting with a mayor’s proclamation honoring their significant contributions. Recognition will also take place during the town of Vail Annual Community Meeting, which will be produced as a virtual meeting and will be aired March 30 on the town’s Facebook page as well as on High Five Access Media
