Westerly The Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce is bringing back its popular Sunday Funday series of events on closed High Street in the downtown beginning this Sunday.
The series, which was first held last fall, will now run for five Sundays from noon to 8 p.m. through May 16. Social distancing and mask rules will apply.
The schedule calls for three live bands each week. There will also be artists and crafters, pop-up boutique booths, a photo booth, the Living Sharks Museum booth, April’s Balloon Creations demonstrations and more.

Rich Kanarski of Davis-Standard in Pawcatuck has been elected to serve as a Technical Program Chair for the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), Extrusion Division. In 2014, Kanarski was recommended by a mentor to serve on the SPE Board of Directors as a young professional, several years later being elected to serve on the Board in a traditional governing role.
WESTERLYÂ â Film lovers will soon be able to sit comfortably in one of the United Theatreâs three state-of-the-art movie houses and enjoy first-run art-house movies every day of the year.
âThree hundred and sixty-five days a year,â said a smiling Lisa Utman Randall, the theaterâs executive director one afternoon last week as she led a group of people on a tour of the building, which is near completion and on track to open in June. âItâs going to be amazing.â
Amazing is certainly one way to describe the $12 million renovation of the Canal Street property, which includes not only the original United Theatre â which opened as a Vaudeville theater in January 1926 â but the adjacent former Montgomery Ward building.

Stonington The Connecticut Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity and Opportunity recognized Lisa Konicki, the president of the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce last week with its SHero Award for her extensive efforts to assist the struggling business community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
State Rep. Greg Howard, R-Stonington, had nominated Konicki, who also heads the Ocean Community Chamber Foundation, for the award.
The commission specifically wrote that when the pandemic began in March 2020, many business owners, employees, residents, and the community at large quickly grew anxious. Immediately, Lisa emerged and began with a Community Strong campaign reminding residents that as unsure as tomorrow was, their community would always stick together. She led with support of local businesses through monetary grants, donated equipment to meet guidelines, and marketing campaigns to generate revenue for those small busine
