Hokes Bluff Class of '51 grad dedicates wind turbine for scholarship


A wind turbine in Texas is expected to power the dreams of Hokes Bluff High School students in years to come, thanks to a scholarship endowment from Hokes Bluff alumnus Don Street.
Street, professor emeritus of economics at Auburn University, created the endowment in honor of his late wife, Dr. Mary Gardner Street.
For years, the Hokes Bluff Golden Eagles 50 year-plus alumni have funding scholarships through the Legends program. People may donate $100 and recognize a notable Hokes Bluff graduate, with the money doing toward scholarships.
Member Karen Owen said the group got a letter from Street, Class of 1951, who wanted to do a fundraiser. ....

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. – The new year typically brings with it bright optimism for better days.
As 2021 began, some Rockbridge County and Lexington nursing homes and long-term care facilities dealt with dark days as residents continued to die from the coronavirus.
As of Wednesday, Kendal at Lexington reports some staff tests have come back positive from the January 11 testing.
The number of Borden Health Center residents with a positive result for COVID, who have not yet recovered, is now five. Twenty-five residents, who previously tested positive for COVID-19, have now recovered. No assisted living residents have tested positive. ....
