CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA Cherokee County students earned regional and state honors through the annual Georgia Student Technology Competition.
The statewide competition offers students in grades 3-12 the opportunity to showcase their skills through 16 categories and vie for honors at regional and state fairs.
Nearly 90 Cherokee County students put their technology skills to the test at the Piedmont Regional Technology Competition. The regional event was organized and led by Shannon Carroll, the district s supervisor of instructional technology, and Jeff Pence, the district s instructional technology specialist.

Robert Augustus Bürgin Jr. (Bob) was born in Savannah, Ga. on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 1938. His life on this earth ended peacefully at his Walker Valley home on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.
Preceding Bob in death were his parents, Robert A. Bürgin Sr. and Theo Taylor Burgin; his brother, Dr. James B. Bürgin; in-laws, Robert B. Wilson Sr. and Mary Moore Wilson; brother-in-law, Robert B. Wilson Jr. (Patsy); and many dogs that he loved deeply.
Surviving Bob are his wife of almost 60 years, Mary Tim Wilson Bürgin of Cleveland; his daughter, Lynn Bürgin of Bloomington, Ind.; grandchildren: Cole Swany of Bloomington, Ind., Noah Swany of Bloomington, Ind. and Victoria Swany of Nashville; nephews: Robert B. Wilson III (Sherry) of Cleveland, James B. Burgin Jr. (Hilary) of Knoxville, Ted Burgin (Sarah) of Knoxville and Rob Burgin (Monte) of Knoxville; nieces: Patti Kuhns (Ron) of Ooltewah and Sally O’Grady of Cleveland; sister-
High school seniors across Etowah County are preparing to celebrate their accomplishments these past four years with their graduation ceremonies in the traditional May time frame after last year s COVID-19 disruptions.
Below are the ceremony dates for each high school in the Etowah County, Gadsden City and Attalla City systems, Coosa Christian School, Episcopal Day School and Westbrook Christian School.

The school system encourages social distancing between members of the audiences, and each ceremony will have a limited capacity.
