A march demanding distribution of $900 checks to the UC Santa Barbara student body was held on the afternoon of May 8, organized by the Young Democratic Socialists of America, a UC Santa Barbara student organization. The protesters began marching from the Storke Tower to Chancellor Yangâs residence in the southeastern corner of campus at around 2:30 p.m., weaving banners and chanting slogans along the way. As the crowd arrived at Yangâs house, several speakers expressed their frustrations over the lack of university-provided support for students during the pandemic. The protest ended with the protestors chalking the driveway to the residence with slogans such as, âPower to the Studentsâ and â$900 now.â

The Nexus has compiled profiles of our current Associated Students elected officials to reflect on their past year in office. Looking back on their campaign platforms, we asked our elected officials to tell us about their successes and shortfalls throughout their terms in office. The term in reviews for the other executives â IVP, EVPSA, EVPLA and S.A.G. â can be viewed at dailynexus.com.Â
[Editorâs Note]: Daevionne Beasley was accused of sexually assaulting another UCSB student during his freshman year, an allegation the Nexus last spring. Term in reviews are specifically intended to examine an executiveâs work during their time in office, which is why the allegation is not being addressed in the piece.

This morning, UC Santa Barbaraâs A.S. formally resolved to rename GauchoSpace â UC Santa Barbaraâs flagship online university â to, simply, âSpace.â The move comes after the once beloved Argentinian cowboy/mascotâs fall from grace and weeks of student protest against the universityâs continuing use of Joe Gauchoâs name and racially undertoned likeness.
Students demonstrated against the website by continuing to use it normally, which repeatedly caused the site to slow and crash at inconvenient times. One student described the protests as a âcarefully coordinated attack,â consisting of over two hundered students clicking on a link entitled â2014 midterm.doc.pdf.â Lecturer Eksa Hausted noted that the protests were âremarkably effective.â

Nexustentialism will continue to challenge the barriers of journalism â pushing the envelope to lengths that have previously gone unpushed.Â
Since its inception, Nexustentialism has built a name for itself writing top-of-the-line (but sometimes mediocre) satire. Bringing you audience-favorite hits such as âNew Study Finds Chancellor Yang Thick As Fuckâ and âChameleons: They Could Be Anywhere,â it has been the pride of our lives pumping out quality content the way political science majors keep pumping out mildly xenophobic comments. And while classics such as âFuck You, Flavored Cream Cheeseâ will always hold a special place in our hearts, we have found it necessary to move on to bigger, bolder, more bountiful horizons of content. We have to go back to the source. Weâve got to start lying once more.Â
