The celebration of world music enlivens Islamoradaâs music scene Saturday and Sunday, May 29-30.
Music and culture are on tap for Upper Keys audiences during Memorial Day weekend, with performances starting at 6 p.m. at the Florida Keys Brewing Co., located at 81611 Old Highway in Islamorada.
Saturdayâs schedule at the popular brewery features Electric Piquete, a critically acclaimed Latin funk band known for its innovative originals and interpretations drawing on Afro-Caribbean, jazz and rock influences. An eagerly anticipated performance by the post-blues hybrid group JUke is to round out the evening.
The following night, music lovers can enjoy the danceable âAfrogalactic Tropidelicâ funk of the Nag Champayons as well as the hard-hitting âpost-nuclearâ fusion of Electric Kif.

An attempt to hoard gasoline backfired for a Florida man.
Fire crews were called to a Texaco station in Homosassa, Florida on Wednesday after a Hummer loaded with gas canisters burst into flame.
The driver had just filled up four 5-gallon gas cans and placed them in the vehicle when flames broke out, engulfing the Hummer H2.
Crews put out the fire in about 10 minutes.
The driver was injured but refused medical attention.
Officials say it s another reminder not to hoard more gasoline than you need.
And according to Jalopnik, The thing is, there were no shortages in Florida. Zero.

At least 10 police officers swarmed the home a British mom Thursday after they spotted what looked like a corpse wrapped in plastic outside her door only to discover it was an old Halloween decoration.
Bedfordshire resident Cara Louise, 28, says she hosted a circus-themed birthday party for one of her children earlier in the week and had used the Halloween decoration as part of the decor. Afterwards, she wrapped it in plastic and set it outside with the intention of putting it in storage at a later time, she says. But before that could happen, she found herself clearing her name in a murder investigation.

An unnamed 42-year-old Tiktoker learned that she was a missing person and she’s been missing since 1980.
After finding out that her current mother wasn’t her biological mother, she turned to the police to locate more information through criminal records.
The woman explained in the video that the sheriff she was talking to urged her to sit as he delivered the devastating news, “I had been [missing] since 1980. There was a police investigation I could not access because the records had been archived, but I had been kidnapped,” the woman said.
The Tiktoker, who goes by @thebeardedmom, shared 15 videos giving updates and revealing that her biological mother had sold her but her biological grandmother reported her missing and her mother went along with it. When she reunited with her biological mother it didn’t go well.
