montgomery county right now where the search for a missing teenager ends in tragedy. >> the young man's body found yesterday in the woods of a bethesda neighborhood. after he went missing on saturday night. fox5's melanie alnwick is now live in bethesda with the latest. mel. >> reporter: hey, good morning, steve and allison. now, this is still an open investigation according to montgomery county police trying to figure out how and why 17-year-old navid sepehri died. it appears that he disappeared after a night out with his friends on saturday. let's take you to the video of the scene when our fox5 crews arrived, they still saw investigators there, dogs in the woods, flashlights as they were continuing to search for the teen right after they discovered that the body was found looking for more evidence. now, apparently there was an all-day search for him. th lane in bethesda near the bannockburn swim club. navid was last seen according to his friends around 11:30 saturday night. some friends say that he was walking with a group and somehow got separated from them and then they couldn't find him but police have not yet confirmed those accounts. navid was a 17-year-old senior at walt whitman high school. in a letter sent to the community the principal says his death appears to be accidental and asked people to remember navid's love of art and commitment to others. the medical examiner will have to do an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of death. there's a number of stories out there on social media that frankly we haven't been able to confirm by police so that's why we're not really getting into some of those details that you might see circulating around. also want to let you know that this is likely to be a difficult day for students as they return here to my whitman high school. a few weeks ago at the end of november a 16-year-old student died and so this is yet another tragedy that they are process that grief, of course, as usual they will have additional grief counselors here at the school to support those students. live in bethesda, i'm melanie alnwick, fox5 local news. >> 7:003 right now. melanie thank you. in loudoun county fire officials investigating a deadly house fire . crews say the fire was well involved when they arrived scene. right now there's no information on the person who was killed. >> also developing i don't of night d.c. fire and ems& responded to a fire on 13th street northwest. that fire was accidental. originated apparent around a gas fireplace. three people and two pets displaced. nobody was hurt and they have somewhere else to stay. >> and a malfunctioning fireplace is to blame for a house fire in fort washington early yesterday morning. firefighters tell us the home is on breamer circle. it had a missing brick in the chimney. that allowed the the fireplace to shoot into the walls and attic of that home. the fire caused about $200,000 in damage. >> let's get to the wildfires in southern california. the thomas fire the largest one continues to burn out of control forcing new evacuations in ventura and santa barbara counties well north of los angeles. some of those evacuations taking place in the middle of the night. it is the fifth largest fire on record in the state of california burning more than 270 square miles. that is an area larger than new york city. more than 800 homes and other buildings have already been destroyed. >> this is like unbelievable to me almost. living here 25 years, i've never even imagined that this was ever going to happen to us. >> it's probably the scariest experience i've ever had. certainly it's the closest experience i've ever had up close and personal with fire and we're talking fire everywhere. >> crews say the thomas fire is only 10 percent all new this morning d.c. police looking for a man who robbed a mcdonald's after climbing through the drive through window. this happened yesterday morning around 5:00 in the morning at the fast food restaurant on georgia avenue. police say that man climbed through the drive through window. once inside he robbed the ststore and took off with an undisclosed amount of money. anyone with information is asked to call police. >> the search continues for a pair of armed robbery suspects. the surveillance video captured the men entering a hardware to are in petworth just before closing on saturday night. one of the men pulled a gun on the manager and forced her to the back of the store. no one was hurt but the suspects did get away with an undisclosed amount of some and. >> let's get than yesterday. 36 now in washington. 31 dulles. 36 up in baltimore at bwi marshall. all three area airports record snow on saturday. between about two and 4-inches so we'll look at that in just a sec. as far as today is concerned, a little bit of cloud cover early. we're getting that east of us. a few flurries up towards philadelphia this morning. and we should gradually turn mostly sunny here late this morning and then later this afternoon we'll have a few more clouds move in with our next system that will be approaching from the west. in between with high pressure in charge, 45 today so >> hey, good morning. i'm just walking into the studio because we have breaking news. skyfox is over that crash i showed you at the top of the 7:00 georgia avenue at randolph road. this is involving a police cruiser. now luckily no injuries reported. just property dag blocking two left lanes so traffic is really, really starting to slow on georgia avenue northbound north of randolph. let's take a skyfox view of this crash to show you what you're up against. you can see the cruiser with flashing lights. another truck in front of that. the officer and truck involved in a crash. looks like the right lane is just blocked and two left lanes opened. again, this is georgia avenue northbound near randolph road. luckily no injuries reported. but again, big delays in montgomery county. we'll switch it over from that view of skyfox back to our maps and show you what else you're dealing with this morning. aside from that big slowdown we're dealing with other issues this morning including this crash blocking the left shoulder. this is 66 eastbound after sudley road. keep it to the left. schuylkill expressway me. keep it to the right to get by through that area. as you take a look at that delay it's eased a bit from 29 in gainesville to 234 prince william parkway. yellow zone 11 minutes but it's a big delay as you head toward that location. from 109 to the beltway, 37 minute ride as you try to make your way from clarksburg to the beltway. from 95 to 270 on the outer loop. no crashes there. just a whole lot of congestion. same story on the inner loop. volume picking up but not as bad. as we take a look at the bottom side of the beltway, red zone. close to 20's minute drive from branch avenue to the wilson bridge. and metro is back to being on time. capitol improvement project wrapped up yesterday for the red line, guys. >> ♪ >> well, politically all eyes on the alabama senate election. in a race that is still too close to call. >> republican roy moore taking on democrat doug jones. this comes as moore continues to try to shake off allegations he made sexual advances on teen girls when he was a deputy district attorney. maureen umeh joins us with the details. >> reporter: good morning both of you. a couple polls have given roy moore an edge over democrat doug jones. this is the real clear politics average of polls now 49 percent to 45 percent but still most of these polls are within the margin of president trump clearly thinks that he can push roy moore over the top as they begin their last full day of campaigning roy moore and doug jones are pursuing two very different strategies. jones with one campaign appearance after another. moore relying on a last minute push from president trump who recorded this robo call for alabama voters. >> get out and vote for roy moore. his vote is our republican senate and it's needed. we need roy to help us with the republican senate. we will win and we will make america great again. >> reporter: after some initial wariness the president is now all in for moore. the former alabama judge who has faced numerous allegations of sexual misconduct charges he denied over the weekend. >> i did not know them. i had no encounter with them. i never molested anyone and for them to say that, i don't know why they're saying it. but it's not true. >> i am so e relying on new jersey democratic senator cory booker to help him mobilize among others black voters who could ultimately determine the outcome of the race. >> we know who we are, alabama. we know who we are. this is an election to tell the world who we are. >> reporter: and as far as the impact of president trump on this race, one thing to keep in mind trump carried alabama last year by 28 points. steve and allison. >> mo thanks very much. as the president campaigns for moore several of the women who have come forward with accusations of sexual assault against president trump will come together today to demand a congressional investigation. >> at least 16 women have accused the now president of sexual misconduct saying that they demand accountability. fox5's bob barnard is live at the white house with more on what's expected. bob. >> reporter: hey, allison and steve, yes, these 16 women are coming together for the first time today in new york city. all 16 were part of a recently released documentary called 16 women and donald trump. these are women who have accused the president of groping them, forcibly kissing them fondling them hume yell hul 88ing and harassing them. this was before the whole me too movement. these 16 women will be having a news conference in new york saying they want congress to investigate these accusations against president trump. the white house has basically said all of these women are lying but donald trump in that famous access hollywood video from 2005 all but admitted this is what he has done and gotten a way with because he's famous. so, guys we'll see. this will be a pretty dramatic thing later on this morning with all these women coming together with their accusations of misconduct against the president. guys. >> bob thanks so much. meantime an overhaul little bit of property damage between that cruiser and a truck. southbound side normal flow, northbound side backing up. we have some other slowdowns 66 on the eastbound side after sudley road. crash is blocking the left shoulder. typical slowdowns as you make your way from 29 in gainesville to 234 prince william parkway. 11 minute ride. overall from sudley road to the beltway about a 45 minute trip. you can see 95 northbound looks pretty good right now just 25 minutes from dale city to the beltway. southbound side and then northbound 395, 18 minutes from the beltway to the 14th street bridge much not terrible. key bridge from rosslyn into georgetown stacking up. gw parkway jamming from spout run to the bridges. red line capitol improvement project completed yesterday. train service restored between fort totten and silver spring. takoma reopened. earlier single tracking this morning but right now everything on the red line back to normal. inner loop looks good to and from the legion bridge. on the spur you're in good shape gw parkway again that delay from the beltway down to past spout run. not terrible just a lot of congestion. 38 minute trip from 109 to the local lane two weeks from today to merge the house and senate tax bills and get them both approved but there could be a possible snag. republican senator susan collins. her last minute opposition to the gop healthcare bill helped to sink the legislation back in july. th senator's deal breakers. this one could be medicare. >> i don't want seniors to have the anxiety of wondering whether the tax bill somehow is going to trigger a cut in medicare. >> collins says majority leader mitch mcconnell and house speaker paul ryan both promised there would be no cuts to senior healthcare programs but some other issues need to be reconciled, the size of the corporate tax whether to include a repeal of the affordable care act's individual mandate. >> new this morning a call for a complete ban on window blinds with cords. a new u.s. study shows the number of children who either are injured or killed after being strangled by the cords still a big problem. despite decades of safety concerns, nearly 17,000 young children were hurt by these kinds of blinds between 199 and 2015. 300 of them died. the safety commission says windows and window blinds are among the top five hidden hazards in homes. >> questions this morning about the nfl's concussion protocol after this hit. on houston texans quarterback tom savage. now if you watch it again, he was allowed to return to the game but this hands are shaking. it appears like he may have that possibly suffered some type of seizure, that's at least what some people were calling and saying. the texans allowed him to go back in and play the next series of game. that replay of the hit had gone viral. in the third quarter the texans pr staff said yes, he did sustain a concussion. questions of the nfl policy that cleared him to go back into the game. >> a texas woman says she was kicked off of a spirit airlines flight along with her two-year-old son and parents. she's a pianist and a cancer research. she says before the cabin door closed she started breastfeeding her child. flight attendants told her to stop and get the child into his she claims she only asked for a few minutes to finish so the baby wouldn't wake up but she was asked to get off the plane with her family. spirit airlines says they stand by their decision saying that the passengers were removed for not complying with instructions. the mom says that she was refunded her money but won't fly spirit again. >> comedian hannibal burris arrested in miami on an intoxication charge after an encounter with a police officer. the 34-year-old was booked sunday morning just before 2:00 a.m. the police report says he asked an officer to called him an uber. when the officer refused burris became loud and belligerent. >> did you know it is green monday. it falls on this day wednesday, much colder, high temperature 32. maybe even some snow showers early thursday morning with a little clipper system. so, our snow chances, we got a few this week or at least a little bit. a crash. noinjuries. northbound after randolph road seeing crowded conditions past that scene. aside from that one as we move over to a look in the district glover park northwest wisconsin avenue at calvert street a gas main break. they're working on improving those conditions so watch out for the right lane blocked on wisconsin avenue. massachusetts looking pretty good but watch for some congestion coming up from georgetown. gw parkway slow from the 66 eastbound crash by sudley road blocking the shoulder. congested traffic from 29 in gainsville to 234. 95 not terrible from dale city today's top stories at just about 7:30. grief counselors will be on hand once again at walt whitman high school in bethesda after the body of one of their fellow woods of a bethesda neigh neighborhood. the victim here 17-year-old n navid. d scene 11:30 saturday night. it comes at a painful time for whitman students. another student died less than a month ago. residents of santa barbara county being warned to leave their homes behind as wildfires rage on. the thomas fire only 15% contained and continues to scorch southern california. so far it has burned more than 270,000 square miles and it's only expected to grow. more than 30,000 people are under mandatory evacuation orders. the wreaths across american caravan on its way to arlington national cemetery. it took off from bank gore, maine on sunday, yesterday, and it will arrive here locally for saturday's annual event that's when a team of volunteers will maybe the remembrance wreaths on the country of oh our including president trump wading deeper into the alabama senate race as voters begin to head to the polls tomorrow. the president dealing with political challenges of his own. several women accusing of president of sexual assault will come forward today.& >> shannon from axios here with us. mueller investigation coming out this morning. >> right. so there's a report out this morning from nbc news that saying that the mueller investigation is now focusing on one 8-day period during which there are questions about who knew what in the white house about whether flynn was lying to the fbi. his conversations with the former now former ambassador to the u.s. from russia. >> they want to know the minute by minute account everything that was happening during that time period. >> exactly. in particular they're focusing on white house gone reportedly and some of the sources are saying that this is showing us that mueller is looking at obstruction of justice and whether trump was involved in that. >> so that's the latest there. which will sort itself out at some point or dive deeper into i what we do know for sure over the weekend the president hitting up the robo call machines. a lot of folks getting calls from the president about the alabama senate race. >> exactly. trump diving in full force with roy moore ahead of election tomorrow. it will be an interesting look whether the polls are telling us what's going on with comparison to doug jones the democrat and roy moore who's now embroiled in the sexual assault and sexual misconduct scandal. >> it's interesting when you break this down roy moore now back there was a period maybe two weeks ago where it was neck and neck in this race. roy moore starting to see more separation. but maybe not as much it was a few months ago. there's still that chance that it could go either way. roy moore is back comfortable lead in this race. doug jones i will say bumped up recently amidst the sexual assault scandal. and so although over the weekend there's new poll no shows roy moore is hopping back up to bump him out. >> the interesting thing from the president's take this was the president that a month ago was saying i'll stay out of this one. >> um-hmm. >> kind of dipped his toe in the water and then with the rally we saw the other day and now these robo calls all in but not all in so much on roy moore, all in on republicans need to keep this seat. that seems to be the strategy he's pushing here. exactly. you see that with the rnc, too. they kind of back out little bit on roy moore. now they're all back in. you're seeing the republicans perhaps saying, all right, we care about our politics here and we need these seats back on the hill and congress and that's what appears to matter fort republicans right now. >> up to the people of alabama to decide what may have or may not have happened in roy moore's past. also, some open skeletons from the president's past coming back starting to hear the women who accused of him during the campaign of sexual misconduct or and are a or assault. now perhaps feeling a new strength now to come forward? >> you know, i think this -- this -- what's happening now you're going to see trump lawyer will be arguing trump might have immunity in a case in new york where a former candidate from the a presence tis is talking about some sexual potential sexual assault allegations. and you're going to see his lawyers say, this is going to interfere in the duties of president and in his capacity to serve the country, and it will be interesting to see how that plays out in terms of does a woman's allegations against someone about sexual assault trump that. no pun intended. >> sounds like wonderful strategy for anyone whoever needed an attorney for their attorney to come out and say, we think you should have immunity from whatever you're charged with are a accused of because it would interfere with your job. when you're the president can you pull that off? >> it's come up before. it came up with before. we'll zoo have to see how it plays out given the prominence of sexual assault allegations and how it's been affecting politics. conyers stepped down, franken who resigned and mull pi tide of other politicians and what we're hearing at axios there's more than 40 potentially representatives and senator who's may become embroiled in this situation as well. so this is problem that's not going away for politicians. >> axios reporting this morning that the accusers now against the president more than against al franken who did step down. we'll hear today from three more women who accused of the president of miss dogs in the past. do you think moore will come forward at this point after somebody steps out and goes on national television and says this is what happened? will that empower others to come forward? >> in terms of, you know, for president trump and there more women they might feel more empowered to come forward. a lot of what happens when someone experiences sexual assault they'll feel they fear repercussions especially when someone is so empowered and perhaps used to be a former boss or someone who used to be in power when you're talking about the president of the united states that's arguably. >> as much power you can get. >> -- one of the most powerful people in the world. >> two items that will be up the taxes right now senator collins who is saying hold off one second here even though it's gone through both chambers and the second thing obviously is keeping this government funded. >> right. to your first point, about senator collins she's kind of on the fence the entire time. the only reason she went forward with pushing the tax bill through the senate in the first place was because she was given assurances that mitch mcconnell would at least support resolutions or, um, bills that would account for the instability in the insurance marketplace for obamacare. so -- >> does chef enough power to stop this? >> house republicans are not entirely on board with what she's requesting there's two bills she's real reveled in. one about reassurance about subsidizing insurance payments. house republicans are are not only on board. they've been pretty clear. mitch mcconnell only offered to publicly support push these bills through. paul ryan has been pretty mum on the issue. to be determine f we'll leave it there. >> her vote will be pretty important. >> as far as shut down we're good for another week or so. we'll leave that one for now. >> true. >> shannon thanks for joining us as i like what we're seeing there. aside from 95 conditions, 66 eastbound still congested. ten minute ride 29 in gainsville to 234. crash by 234 sudley road. all metro rail lines on time right now much good day d.c. and sitting down with lot of big actors today specifically for some movies including the pitch perfect three cast as well as terry bradshaw he's ex excited about for new movie father figures. one of the films i covered this past weekend in new york was the greatest showman the story of pt barnum. hugh jackman plays this character and this is clearly a passion project for him. he's incredible singer. incredible performer and hugh jackman taking on this character kind of like him building the circus, and barn null circus really kind of a cool story line. the music is original. music is done bite people who wrote the lyrics for the la la land movie as well hanson. i spoke to hugh jackman about pt barnum in general and the idea that he let criticism affect him, and the way he did things. and i wanted to know if hugh jackman has ever let reviews affect the way he performs. also really interesting ways they capture the sinking in this film. i wanted to know how they were able to do that with so much movement and so much dancing. this is hugh jackman and i from new york this past saturday. watch this. >> one of the things i love about your cash ten the arc he has throughout the film he let's reviews affect him and there's critic in the movie, and at one point the reviews are bad and he ends up using the circus as a quote. then at one point the reviews are good and he shuts his cast out and goes along with the rebecca ferguson arc line. i'm curious as an actor, if you have reviews, did you ever find yourself changing things you did based on reviews you read about yourself? >> you know, my father when i told him i wanted to be an actor i'm a little worried. you're a little skinned. i remember him saying that to me. and he's kind of right. i am sensitive and i read reviews a little bit like this. i don't want -- and also, as an actor particularly on stage, a good review can damage you as much as a bad review if someone says i love the way you say that line you're like how did i say that line? and you can lose it. but ultimately, i've had a couple reviews here in america in new york city that i've been really tough to read. and they've said some things that actually on reflection have helped me. >> like what? >> very true. one reviewer said one thing, um, hugh jackman all he requires of you is to love you, loving him, loving you. >> i see many people who are out there as far as law enforcement responders to this at the scene of an apparent explosion of some type near the port authority in manhattan. right in the area of 42nd and eighth. authorities are evacuating multiple subway lines as a result. so far we have not heard of any reports of injuries but again we are just getting the details as you can see more investigators continue to roll up to the scene as we are showing you these live pictures right now. there you see many more responders showing up but again right outside of port authority that's eighth avenue right there in the area of 42nd. right in the area just outside of times square. so we'll continue to follow this. we'll keep the live pictures up in our control room right now so that we can see if thers law enforcement response is swift. it is steady and more and more people continue to come in there as you see those officers and investigators responding to the scene and others who have been there apparently appear to be telling them, look, this is what we know. this is what's happening right now. now. course, we know that's really busy area there. a lot of regular commuters also of course tourists there. we see that that area is a virtual standstill and if you have have been anywhere near that area, you know that that is an unusual sight. the good thing now no reports of any injuries right now. we just don't know the scope of this explosion or what it was. we know it's affecting the trains up there but what really concerned about what is all this about and is anybody actually hurt authority will affect that. but the plan is a scheduled 10:30 news conference in new york city this morning with 16 women who have accused of the president of varying degrees of misconduct. they were all featured in a recent documentary that was released last month called 16 women and donald trump. it was released by a company called brave new films which is hosting this morning's news conference. now, these women the 16 women accused of the president of groping them, fondling them, forcible cybillly kissing, humiliating or harassing them a dozen of these women leveled these accusations against candidate trump. of course, that didn't really stick. he was elected. this was of course before the me too movement. now, these women say they want congress to investigate their allegations. the white house has consistently said these women are lying although back some 12 years ago now in that video that was released during the campaign president trump and told access hollywood this is kind of what does he. what he was really saying what did he or blowing smoke he said this is the kind of thing he's done because he's a celebrity, guys. we'll see whether this news conference happens today, and developing story out of bethesda over the weekend. it is a tough morning for so many students right now. grief counselors on hand at walt mate wilt wit man after a missing student was found dead over the weakened. >> the teen had been missing since late saturday night. melanie alnwick is live outside of walt whitman high school with the latest now. >> reporter: steve and allison students here tell me they started to realize something was wrong when they saw a number of classmates posting hearts on snap chat and that was a signal that once again there was a tragedy in their community. now montgomery county police say this is an on-going investigation. apparently the 17-year-old senior was out with friends on saturday night and somehow disappeared and he was reported missing when he didn't come home. let's show you the the scene that developed late on sunday. this was after -- saturday night when navid was reported missing. the scene is in the 7500 block of laverock lane. apparently navid was last seen about 11:30 p.m. saturday. friends say that he was walking when hey group and somehow got separated from them but police haven't confirmed those reports or other reports of what was going on saturday night that we've seen circulate aig round social media. now he was 17-year-old senior at walt whitman high school. in a letter zen to the community the principal said navid's death appears to be accidental and asked people to remember his lost of art and commitment to others. now still a lot to do here in terms of investigation. we know again there are many stories out there on social media about what the teens, where they were, who they were with, what they were doing on saturday night. but police are not couldn't philadelphia international you can be sure they're going to be interviewing everyone who had contact with navid and his friends on saturday night. we still also need to wait for the autopsy report from the medical examiner's office to determine the manner and cause of death. meanwhile as you mentioned tough day here. there was another student who died toward the end of november. so they are bringing in additional grief counselors scene of an explosion that happened just about an hour ago. about 8:30 this morning. we've been keeping an eye on this scene here it really has that feel like police have everything under control. we've seen law enforcement from nwpd, port authority police, federal police including the fbi who have all had representatives there in addition to all the equipment that they have bout in. the back story here, what we have found out from our fox5 zero fill 88 in new york city, apparently a device a pipe bomb type device was detonated underground morning. now only two people were injured including the person who set off that blood pressure. that person is now in custody. we do not know the extent of the injuries to the second person they've all we heard at that this point. cop firmed injuries to two people and one person is in custody. still heavy police presence there outside of times square and port authority in the area of 4 42nd street and eighth avenue in new york city. we'll soon as we go live wanted to give you a view of this big crash scene involving one tractor trailer an few cars. traffic is stuck in that backup from the beltway to just outside a few miles of standstill traffic. somebody could be late. zooming in checking out what's going on. emergency responders on loc location. keep you updated. 66 westbound outside the beltway all lanes currently block. back to you guys. >> ♪ we want up to date the breaking news out of new york city. central manhattan. midtown manhattan an explosion went off about 7:30 this morning near the port authority bus terminal train terminal. we are told now that police do have the suspect in custody. two people were hurt in that explosion. neither injuries said to be life-threatening. one of those people who was injured the person who is now in custody. fox5 in new york reporting that that person had some type of pipe bomb type device strapped to themselves when they detonated that device but again that person said to h minor injuries. as well bystander. still as you can see from the live pictures very heavy police presence in the area. details are still continuing to come in but at this point all we have are reports of two minor injuries and one suspect in custody at bellevue hospital in new york. we'll have much more coming up on good day at 9:00 o'clock. ♪ >> in the meantime time for today's film they reshot spacy's scenes about ten days and they're going to be releasing it on christmas day december 25th. i don't know how ridley scott did it. got it all done. got the scenes filmed but apparently it's done, and plumber got nominated for goal again globe i'm interviewing him next monday i'm very excited about to find out how many scenes they that reshoot he dot got nominator and
