Thick smoke shot out of a top floor apartment before 7 00 last night on prospect avenue. According to fire officials, it started in a ground floor apartment and shot all the way up like a chimney. There was a scramble from safety. 15 of them were rescued by fire officials. Were told that some had Desperate Measures to try and escape the flames. In total, 12 people were killed from the flames. Fire commissioner daniel nigro says its an unspeakable tragedy. Mayor de blasio says this is one of the worst tragedies the city has suffered in a quarter century. Determined the cause of the fire. Turns out that the deadliest time on the road is between christmas and new years. According to the internal police review, officer trainer and his partner palmer noticed a motorcyclist speeding and running red lights. The two officers pulled sterling over. He was on that motorcycle as trainer was getting out of his car. Trainer drove forward and struck the car door. In the review, trainer says his leg was pinned between the door and the car and fearing for his safety, he fired his gun twice. According to the post, after investigators recreated the accident, they found that trainers description of injuries did not match the incident. Federal officials opened a tight al ix investigation regarding the university the post says that the review will examine how the school handled sexual violence.
