It was traveling from seattle to portland along a highspeed route. Some trains collapsed on the interstate highway. Others dangled in the air. Three people were killed and paramedics had to rush more than 70 others to the hospital. One couple describes what happened from their hospital bed. Tossing rattling in the train. Kind of got dark. And found myself on the floor. Count your blessings. Yeah. Try to live daytoday. Keep out of trouble. Basically theyre both going to be okay. That couple out of hospital this morning. Right now, d. C. Police are searching for the gunman who killed a teenager at a Community Center basketball court. On bruce place southeast at the Frederick DouglassCommunity Center. People there told news 4 the teen was on the court when someone robbed and then shot him. He died at the scene. The victims name has not been released. This morning, a d. C. Woman is in the hospital with lifethreatening injuries from a fire. It started inside a first floor apartment last night. A second woman and a firefighter were also taken to the hospital. Theyre expected to be okay. Firefighters also rescued a puppy. No word on how the fire started. The remnants of this brushfire in gaithersburg are still burning. Chopper 4 flew over the scene near lay tonsville road last night. See all the flames there. Firefighters doused the fire and contained it as much as they could. They expect it to continue burning for hours. No word yet on what caused it. The Washington Redskins safety sua cravens is threatening to sue the loudoun he says he was racially profiled and roughed up during a local stop. The Sheriffs Office says it was by the book. You can see that the Atlanta HartsfieldJackson Airport is finally green after being red since that massive power outage created a travel nightmare on sunday. It was purple on the map. Not sure what that means. The blackout lasts more than ten hours but the ripple effects were felt all day on monday. More than 4 canceled yesterday, 1100 on sunday. A fire inside an airport tunnel is to blame for the blackout. These new images show the damage there. Airport Officials Say a switch caught fire and then burned through seven critical lines knocking out the power system and the backup power system. Equipment failed. But our focus and our responsibility for this airport is to ensure reliability is 100 . It failed. Now we have to respond and make sure it doesnt happen again. We had a News Conference overnight with ntsb investigators. They told us the train was traveling at 80 Miles Per Hour. This is only a 30 mile per hour zone. Theyre trying to determine exactly why that was happening. It happened in the morning rush hour. This was the inaugural run of a highspeed service meant to connect the portland and the seattle areas. This is a popular route not only for commuters but expected to get a lot of use in the upcoming Holiday Travel period. There were about 80 passengers and crew members on board the train at the time. Now, were told that there were three people on board the train that were killed. Nearly 100 that were injured. Local fire officials are telling critical. As we take a live look at the scene, you can see that crane is here. Heavy duty machinery and workers are trying to clean everything off the runway. Officials have told us that they dont expect this portion of southbound interstate 5 to reopen in time for the morning commute. Theyre hoping to make progress. Also, in terms of progress with the investigation, later today investigators are hoping to talk to members of the crew to determine exactly what happened. They say that they will remain in this area for the next ten days or so. It could take up to a year before we know the cause of the crash. Now, back to you.
