now. i'm megan mcgrath live in alexandria where you can see behind me the search continues for a 16-year-old who went out fishing with friends on little hunting creek. he went into the water to swim to the other side of the creek but he never made it back to shore. it is a beautiful spot where little hunting creek meets potomac river, popular with anglers. this morning, there are police boats instead of fishermen, for the search of a missing 16-year-old continues. the coast guard brought in their search and rescue chopper, boats equipped with sonar are searching the water. shortly after 8:00 last night when a teenager went into the water trying to cross from one side of the creek to the other. he got about halfway before he began to struggle by the channel marker where the water gets deep. >> the current was going out at that time. he was drifting out. while he was struggling, he then submerged again and was not seen above the water. >> complicating the search, underwater plants, quite thick in the spot making it difficult to see down into the water. you can see some of that submerged vegetation right behind me here. i'm told that a swimmer could also get tangled up in it. now, the search continues. although, i was told by the captain who is in charge that this is now considered a recovery mission. live in alexandria, megan mcgrath, news 4. as we come to this moment, we on air. a moment of silence observed at wdbj in roanoke. it happened the same moment when photographer, adam ward and reporter, alison parker were killed yesterday. ward was 27. parker 24. she had just moved in with her boyfriend, who is an anchor at wdbj. >> i don't know if sharing these personal memories that she made for us and no one else that now i want to share is what she would have wanted. i know what she felt in her heart about being a journalist, which is that you want to share. you want the truth to get out. >> chris said that he wanted to marry alison parker. adam ward was engaged to the newscast morning producer who was in the control room when he was shot and killed. we are learning more about the man suspected of shooting the journalist. we told you that vester flanagan worked at wdvj before he was fired two years ago. we also learned he was fired from a station in tallahassee, florida. his family put out a statement saying our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's familiar less and the wdvj news family. we can not expression the hurt that we feel for the victims. our family is asking that you respect our privacies. the new concerns about social were 23 people at the top of the monument at the time. they had to walk all the way down. there were similar problems tuesday night as well. if the presidential election had been held today, vice-president joe biden would fair better than top gop candidates than hillary clinton would. clinton edges trump, 45% to 41%. despite these numbers, clinton leads the race with 45% of the vote. >> she is in charge of the chamber of commerce there. >> a gun show in roanoke is now the center of controversy because of this shooting. it was scheduled for this weekend. there is a petition going around to cancel it. it has about 290 signatures right now. organizers are asking the roanoke center to cancel out of respect for parker and ward. they say it would show an immense disrespect for the victims as well as their family and friends. >> a man in louisiana shot and killed a police officer with the officer's own gun. they also say the men were cousins according to police in sunset, louisiana. they stabbed three people before that even happened. one of those victims died as well. the others are in serious and critical condition right now. they say the attacker drove away and crashed into a convenience store after the shooting. he was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. >> the city of baltimore preparing for court cases working with law enforcement agencies across the state. it is upgrading right here and conducting crowd control training. the first hearings start on wednesday. city and school officials also planning law, educational sessions during the remembered in countless ways, big and small, including this growing memorial behind me. it is a tribute to two talented people who were killed going about their job. >> please join us now in a moment concern is about the news team. they are doing a marvelous job of holding it together. >> reporter: the pair skroibd not just by colleagues but as a team dedicated to bringing the news to the community they loved. both were embarking on new chapters in their personal leaves. ward was engaged to be married. parker had recently moved in with her boyfriend, station anchor, chris hurst. >> she was looking forward to life. i was looking forward to a life wither had. >> they were interviewing vicky gardner life when ambushed by former reporter, flanagan. her husband saw the shooting live on television. >> i immediately tried to call her on her cell phone. the next time i spoke with her was when she called me from the ambulance. it was a pretty bad few minutes. >> reporter: the shooting was not only broadcast live but also filmed by flanagan who later posted it. he went to the on-air name brice williams. management described him as an angry man that seemed to seek out con frofrontation. there were no scienigns that he planning this attack on his colleagues. the gunman's family released a statement expressing condolences to the loved ones of alison parker and adam ward dominican republic as well as haiti. it will also allow this storm to remain only a tropical storm through sunday. by monday, expected to strengthen to a category 1. very little northward movement as
