right now are the first ever to be graduating from army ranger training school. they join 94 male soldiers at this ceremony today. shaye haver of texas and kristen griest, they are the first females to complete the ranger school. they are not eligible to join the rangers regimen, although it is among special operations likely to soon be open to women. only about two-thirds of the soldiers who begin the army rangers school make it past the first few days. >> we've heard about what the accomplishment means were other women in combat, but we've heard very little from them until now. here's erika hill. >> reporter: for all the questions about whether women could hands the grueling ranger training, among the soldiers, any concerns were quickly forgotten. >> some of the men don't care that you're a female. you carry that and you feel the exact same way. you share the load as much as anybody. >> i was skeptical. she took the weight off me and carried it. saved me. >> kristen griest, a military police officer who and shaye haver, distinguished themselves early on with their physical and mental toughness. both are west point graduates. today they join the ranks of another elite group. just 42 % of those who start ranger training graduate. more than a third don't make it today five. there are strict physical fitness standards including a five-mile run in under 40 minute nachl a 12-mile hike. push offs and phases of trainings, the woods, mountains, and swamp. each one an intense test of physical and mental strength. as soldiers prove their survival and leadership skills. >> we, ourselves, came to ranger school skeptical, with our guards up, ready just in case but not with a chip on our shoulder. >> reporter: the navy announced it's open to letting women serve with the s.e.a.l. prom pram who pass. only 94 man who graduate today can apply to the ranger regimen because it's a combat unit. >> i'd be proud to serve along each and every one of the]w% rr graduates tomorrow in combat or elsewhere. the women impressed me. they met the standard, and they are ranger-qualified individuals. >> i just came here to try to be a better leader and improve myself. i feel like i did that and for other women with the same goal, keep the goal in mind. >> that was erika hill reporting. both women say they were thinking about other women who will follow them into ranger schools, and they may not be the only graduates for long. there's another woman in right now and if she finishes, they'll graduate next month. >> right now hurricane danny has been upgraded to a category 2. right now the winds are upwards of 100 miles per hour. storm team 4 says despite the upgrade, danny is not posing any threat to land but could bring rain to puerto rico and the virgin islands. >> here's the latest. danny is a category 2 hurricane. maximum sustained winds just over 100 miles an hour. this is a tiny hurricane. hurricane force winds only extend 15 miles out from the center of storm. tropical storm force winds only extend 70 miles per hour. compact in nature. as it moves toward the west, northwest toward the leeward islands sunday mornings,s the set to weaken to a a 14-year-old was home with his two younger siblings. the mens were able to push the glass and unlock the door. the children headed into a closet where there was a rifle and then they dialled 9-1-1. >> the closet we hid in, he taught me what to do. i had the rifle and the cell phone. i called 9-1-1. i was just 3re paired for it. >> one of the guys here packed the car with stolen items as the state fleeing their homes. officials say winds in excess of 40 miles per hour are making fighting the fires difficult. the fire causing evacuations is just 60 miles where three firefighters were resources continues. wildfires are raging in washington state. fuelled by strong winds pushing in from the north. forcing more evacuations. the dry brush and windy conditions are a recipe for disaster
