center city for the man accused in the ambush style shoot that injured a philadelphia police officer, opening statements were given in edward archer accused of shooting jessie hartnett at point-blank range, it happened at 60th and spruce street on january 7th of 2016. hartnett's left arm was shattered in this and his injuries left him unable to work and archer confessed to the crime and did it in the name of islam. >> with only a few days left until they head to minneapolis, the eagles are making the most of any moment they have to practice at home. they are working toward one of the biggest his career. >> it's coming fast and furious. thanks. security at the super bowl is a top priority and police in minneapolis will have a brand new tool to keep them and crowds safe. officers are using an app called field watch. specifically developed for the big game and more than 2,000 law enforcement will have the app on their phones that allows central command to know where they are at all times. police describe it as a bit of uber for people. and it allows officers to live stream images of what is happening right in front of them to command and the department can make tactical decisions. >> there may be unidentified objects or suspicious activities or maybe a protest. >> the company plans to launch field watch nationwide after the super bowl. well, as we near the super bowl all of this sunshine doing little to warm us here this afternoon. not getting out of the 30s for high temperatures in fact right now we sit at 36 degrees in philadelphia. 34 new york city. and 21 in syracuse and 24 in buffalo. and washington warmer with temperatures in the lower 40s. but you factor in the wind with and 28 in the city of philadelphia. and 8 degrees below the actual air temperature and 24 in pittsburgh and 14 in buffalo and syracuse 11 degrees. the air temperature drops below freezing tonight and settles in the 20s between 10:00 and 11:00 and the wind goes calm overnight tonight and temperatures drop down to 23 degrees, we are not talking windchills early tomorrow morning. but looking ahead winds diminish tonight and tomorrow and temperatures go 16 degrees above average and saturday will be spectacular with sunshine and then damp and dreary here unfortunately on sunday a 50/50 weekend and we'll chat about that in the full accuweather forecast. >> thank you. time for the "action news" traffic report. matt pellman is standing by in the traffic center and more on the mess on the roosevelt boulevard. >> we sure do, wouldn't it be nice if today was one of those 60 degree days and we wouldn't have seen nearly as many issues with the water main break that happened along henry avenue. you see up top there on henry. the outbound lanes, the westbound lanes are partially blocked and what happened is the main broke and the water fro it spilt down on to the roosevelt boulevard route 1 underneath. a busy spot and it became all icy because of the really cold temperatures. so now you have two lanes blocked and one lane getting by and completely closed most of the afternoon. at this point they have the left lane getting by and still the delays are absolutely enormous. lets go to the next camera shot and the situation on the northbound boulevard. two right lanes blocked and only the left lane gets by off the schuylkill and broad street. the delays are spilling back into east falls locally. and big delays along ridge avenue and school house lane and hunting park avenue as well. here on the schuylkill itself. jammed solid in both directions, people don't know where to go because for a while they were not able to get on the northbound side of the boulevard extension and this is the westbound lanes of route 1 a parking lot both ways. coming out of the city stick with river drives inbound bail at lincoln drive and kelly drive. or use lincoln drive. lets grab the ipad and check the ways home with the waze app. they are not looking so good. pennsylvania turnpike coming away from mid county heading toward fort washington and 309 problems there as well. an accident and speeds are dropping by the minute. we'll check it again in the next half hour. >> points up for the day. >> winter weather has been brutal with temperatures on the roller coaster ride and when it gets frigid it becomes a life changer for kids that do not have coats. right now cradles to crayons are making sure all kids have the luxury of warmth and making sure kids stay warm and bundle up. hundreds of volunteers are sorting through much needed donations and pairing kids with coats and boots and hats and gloves and long pants. they say right now the need is critical and the face of that need just might surprise. >> philadelphia has the highest rate of deep poverty. >> and two sisters last year who were going to school only oceanly. nobody would work out why because they were good at school. turns out they were sharing a winter coat and one when one day and one went the next day. >> and members of the philadelphia eagles were there to help volunteer and get the coats ready into the hands of the kids that need them. cradles to crayons always accepting new and used as radiational cooling and with the temperatures here we go below freezing at 7:00 this evening in the city of philadelphia and then drop into the 20s into the early morning hours tomorrow. and with the lack of wind the only good thing is we won't talk about windchills tomorrow morning. look at the crystal clear sky you need that to throw the radiation back into the atmosphere at night at philadelphia international airport live on sky 6 no weather woes here this afternoon. with that sunshine out. you probably notice that the sunsets are getting later and the days, the daylight hours are getting longer today it sets at 5:12, a month from now february 10th, only a few weeks from now 5:30 in the evening. and then by march 8th can the sunsetting at 6:00 and shortly after that, we'll have to pump it up by an hour. windchills 20s area wide except cape may county in the 30s. and satellite 6 along with action radar will confirm no clouds whatsoever and go back to the west there in western pennsylvania and as you can see the clouds eroding as they try to come to the east. 16 by the morning in the lehigh valley. and 17 in reading and 23 if philadelphia and 19 in millville as the winds go calm. the temperature profile with the sunshine 20s in the morning going into 37 at 11:00 and 44 at 3:00 in the afternoon and a nice recovery here tomorrow. and then going even higher than that come saturday, 3:30 in the afternoon and everyone in the 50s and we'll have sunshine to boot to go along with it. >> as we look at the four day at 4:00, sun and light winds, 44 degrees and feeling warmer than today. 57 is the pick of the weekend on saturday. windy on saturday. and sunday it's mild but wet at 54 degrees and then we kick the rain out on monday, breezy and cooler, 46 temperatures right now only in the 30s pretty much area wide. and there are the temperatures, there they go, lets go back to them. temperatures right now 35 allentown and 36 philadelphia and 35 in trenton and wilmington 36 degrees and factor in the win and it feels like 29 degrees in allentown and 28 in trenton as well as philadelphia and 27 in wilmington and the atlantic city airport just 28 degrees, as we look at cape may. we are sun soaked here and doing little in the way to warm us up. but speaking of warmth, you can see it, st. louis 66 and 61 memphis and 66 in wichita. we have the warm air down to the south and it is moving in our direction. we'll talk about the temperatures heading on up but also talk about a chance for snow in the seven-day forecast. coming up in just a little bit. >> adam, thank you. >> a pizza deliveryman ambushed and shot on the job is expected to survive. the victim is a driver of lazo's of fairmount. he aat the present timed to drop after a delivery. and police believe it was a setup. >> he knocked on the door and they inform him we didn't order food or pizza. >> at this point the driver started to walk back to his car and that is when two masked men approached him and demanded his valuables one of the men fired the bullet into the vehicle as he drove away striking him in the right hand and police are working to identify both suspects. a woman was struck and killed as she walk add long i-95 in delaware and the 21-year-old woman was walking in the southbound lane at the mlk boulevard exit when she was struck by a toyota prius, the victim was thrown out on to the right shoulder. and the driver is a 77-year-old man from maryland and did stop after the accident. 95 south was closed for two hours while police conducted their investigation. >> well, as you know pedestrians and bikers and skateboarders have to navigate around each other to get around center city philadelphia. monica malpass in the newsroom today with more on this. >> hi brian, a bizarre incident between commuters and skateboarders you don't hear about often, coming up on oiling tonight. police are looking for a group of skateboarders that reportedly attacked a driver following an incident on market street recently why that driver ended up in the hospital. we'll introduce you to edna web she is with the birds sin the very beginning and sweeping the tri-state area including the museum of the american revolution, they are renaming patriots gallery and now it's eagles gallery in honor of the birds being in the super bowl. to celebrate state department after one of their sons was denied a passport why only one baby is considered a u.s. citizen. >> and should you insist that your friends and family get a flu shot before they see your say this season there is extra reason to be extra cautious. babies can not get a flu vaccine until they are 6 months old and make sure they are not exposed to the flu at all. finally thank is the trenton thunder, the new york yankees minor league team ton celebrate the 20th anniversary can you call them the trenton pork roll. root for the team celebrating the garden state's beloved processed commute is taylor made for though that like a lot of traffic, we are not rolling well at all whatsoever. thanks to a big water main break from late this morning from henry avenue and abbotts avenue. but it was not confined to henry avenue and rolled down the wall on the northbound side of route 1, the roosevelt boulevard and because of the temperatures this afternoon it turned into an icy mess. these northbound lanes were closed most of the afternoon around 4:00, they got the left lane open to traffic even though it's going to be slippery and they have so much salt down there. the ramifications from this are still felt. we have gridlock around east falls and ridge avenue is a parking lot and extra traffic on school house lane and the delays are spilling across the river to city avenue where you are look agent single digit speeds and now in that mess another accident at city and presidential. big delays on kelly drive, 9 miles per hour there and hunting park a detour to the boulevard. 8 miles per hour. and 5 miles per hour. and it's a mess and the delays smile on the schuylkill 8 miles per hour there. and the parking lot in both directions here as the westbound taillights are parked approaching the roosevelt boulevard. what do you do coming out of the city, and get on the schuylkill to the boulevard trying to get to the northeast and use broad street and 95. and trying to get out of town and use lancaster avenue as an alternate. inbound on the schuylkill the exit for lincoln or kelly and use lincoln drive instead. we'll keep watching it in the 5:00 hour. "action news" delaware valley's leading news program. with jaime apody, meteorologist, cecily tynan, rick williams and monica malpass. thursday night and the big story on "action news" is breaking news. one lane of northbound route 1 is getting by now after a water main break. look at that backup. chopper 6 hd was over the scene a short time ago and started at lunge time and still choking rush hour traffic tonight. christie aleto just arrived on the scene in east falls. >> reporter: the water department is on scene and this is where the water main starts and got so bad at times, it leaked on to the roosevelt boulevard and that one northbound lane is open but there is still a lot of residual delays on the side streets, it's causing a lot of traffic and this could not come as a worse time as people are headed home at the height of rush hour. >> the water department says is it started as a small leak a couple of days ago at henry avenue and grew into a 12 inch water main. the water leaks on to roosevelt boulevard forcing state police to shut down the northbound lanes. salt was then dumped on top of the wet pavement to keep the lanes from freezing. while the water department waited to turn off the water in order to give the nearby dialysis center to make arrangements for their patients in their care. and this was hectic for commuters. >> i am trying to get home. >>
