than an inch, doylestown .85, pottstown about a half inch. atlantic city you'll notice really hasn't gotten into the action quite yet, only .02 of an inch. an additional quarter to a half inch of rain again causing minor street flooding where you have the poor drainage then temperatures crashing as an arctic boundary moves in and this could cause an icy mix in the far north and west suburbs. you can see right now we're in the 60's but temperatures in the 30's behind it. we've got winter weather advisories. i'll talk about that coming up in the full accuweather forecast. gina. >> [inaudible] >> traveling out right now i do have some good news. that earlier tractor-trailer that we had in langhorne on 95 has cleared. now we're just sort of waiting for this delay to really run its course but it looks like for the most part you're moving along, a little slower than you should be but the tractor-trailer is gone so things are going to be moving along a lot nicer now for you. let's also take a live look at the big picture so you can see what is happening. we have some slow speeds out there in particular on 95. that northbound side very heavy from allegheny all the way out through to i would say about the betsy ross bridge so a little backup there and if you're traveling on the vine street expressway that eastbound side will be heavy about 11 miles per hour and look at that, 4 miles per hour on the schuylkill expressway. it is jammed out there especially if you're traveling on this and on this eastbound side around spring garden street. you can see we are definitely crowded here but it looks like on that westbound side you're delayed fifty two minutes between the vine out to the blue route so definitely give yourself time there. westbound at spring garden it is fine but the biggest chunk of your westbound delay montgomery out towards that conshohocken curve going to be a slow go. eastbound the heaviest part of your backup from gulph mills out to the vine street expressway. time needed out there especially on the schuylkill expressway and on the vine street expressway maybe not so much on that westbound side as you're only tapping the brakes but the entire length out there on that eastbound side going to be very crowded. brian and monica, back to you. >> thank you gina. you can get updates on the forecast and check storm tracker6 live throughout the weekend right there on your phone or tablet. the 6abc app is a free download for you were and mobile device. >> somber but moving celebration of life today inside the cathedral basilica of saints peter and paul for fallen fire lieutenant matthew letourneau. >> family and friends gathered to say a final farewell. "action news" reporter john rawlins live outside the basilica in center city with more tonight. john. >> reporter: that's right, firefighters and other first responders from near and far attended the service today. some knew the lieutenant personally. he was highly regarded here in philadelphia and as you'll hear in delaware county as well. others had never met him but came to honor him because of the way he lived his life professionally. >> ♪ >> reporter: to the sound of pipes and a teaming noontime rain, fellow firefighters carried the flag draped casket and remains of lieutenant matthew letourneau. the 42-year-old served 11 years his body placed on engine 45, his engine to take him to his hometown of springfield delaware county to be laid to rest. >> ♪ >> reporter: earlier there had been a funeral mass inside the roman catholic cathedral basilica of saints peter and paul. the fire commissioner a friend of the fallen firefighter among those who spoke. >> for matt is not gone. he has simply gone ahead. he has gone ahead and joined a company of other heroes. >> reporter: it was last saturday when letourneau was killed in the line of duty. falling debris inside a north philadelphia row home. he was remembered as a guy with an easy smile and a man passionate about fighting a calling that dated to his teens when he began as a volunteer in delaware county. >> he lived, ate, slept and breathed this job. >> and in his spare time matt would go home. he would go back to where he grew up to springfield and naturally he volunteered to fight fires there, too. >> reporter: so, the lieutenant a paid officer here in the city for the last 11 years. as you heard he was also an active volunteer in springfield, also a fire instructor at the delaware county fire training facility. he first volunteered to be a firefighter in 1991 while he was still a high school student at cardinal o'hara. live in center city, john rawlins channel6 "action news." brian. >> all right, honor dr. martin luther king. mr. trump signed a proclamation in remembrance of mlk day which is on monday. it was yesterday when the president questioned why the u.s. would accept more immigrants from haiti and then referenced africa using an expletive. hours later he said this. >> today we celebrate dr. king for standing up for the self-evident truths americans hold so dear that no matter what the color of our skin or the place of our birth, we are all created equal by god. >> two members of the senate were in that meeting confirmed that the president used that word though he has denied it. mr. trump's comments are drawing reaction from democrats, republicans and world leaders and we'll hear some of that reaction coming up a the at 5:30. >> kentucky will be the first state to require medicaid recipients to have a job to get coverage. the trump administration announced individual states can mandate employment for certain medicaid enrollees. each state needs to apply for a waiver from the federal government and today kentucky became the first to win approval. officials expect that change to save the state $300 million but as many as 95,000 residents could lose their benefits. the wait is almost over. the eagles show down against the falcons is nearly here. >> good. i'm sick of waiting. the birds haven't been to the playoffs since 2014. players and fans ready to breaking news out of southern california. sheriff's deputies announce they have a person in custody with the murder of blaze bernstein the 19-year-old student at the university of pennsylvania disappeared last week and his body was found on tuesday. the orange county sheriff's office will be holding a news conference to release details about this person in custody later tonight but again, authorities have just made an arrest in the murder of a 19-year-old penn student blaze bernstein. >> on health check what began as a joke has now become a dangerous trend fueled in part by social media. and safety experts are concerned about it. it's called the laundry pod challenge in which teens post videos showing them eating or pretending to eat these laundry pods. the highly concentrated pods are toxic and swallowing even just a little bit of detergent can cause vomiting or diarrhea if the detergent gets into the lungs it can cause breathing problems. in a statement the maker of tide says our laundry packs are highly concentrated detergent meant to clean clothing. they should not be played with whatever the circumstance is even if it is meant as a joke. the cdc says the flu epidemic is now at epidemic levels across the country but disease experts think the outbreak is now stabilizing. although cases continue to mount the number of states reporting high levels of the flu is the same as last week. so we may have hit the peak. the h3n2 virus which causes more severe symptoms and complications continues to be the dominant strain this year. a school district in idaho closed all of its schools and alabama declared a statewide emergency. still about three months left to flu season so if you've not yet been vaccinated the cdc says do it now. >> with the new year many folks renewed their commitment to exercise more but experts actually say don't overdo it at the start. they recommend slowly building your intensity and the time of your workouts. that does lower the chance of strains and other overuse injuries. it also decreases the risk of a more serious condition called rhabdo. that's when someone really overdoes it and their muscle cells actually begin to break down. >> the enzymes and proteins buildup so much the body can't process them. they can't filter them enough. >> muscle soreness after a workout is okay but if your muscles are weak that could be a sign of trouble or rhabdo. so check with your healthcare provider. >> students at widener university helped out people in need in chester today. this was part of their annual martin luther king day of service. the students with the widener institute for physical therapy education brought their mobility clinic the episcopal place apartment complex. they provided blood pressure screenings for residents and also checked and cleaned mobility equipment like wheelchairs walkers and more. >> ♪ members of the east wind dynamic ensemble of asian traditional drummers performed today at philadelphia city hall part of the fifth annual korean american association. councilman david oh spoke today to recognize the city's rich korean heritage and talked about how his parents emigrated accuweather forecast. >> meteorologist cecily tynan here with the all important details. hi, cecily. >> hi, guys. certainly a very soggy day today. this storm system is not done with us yet. we've got some heavy rain. it's moving out of northern virginia and maryland and that will be moving in tonight. but with the rain is coming a surge of very warm air. we've had record highs. trenton a record high of 65, allentown the same, reading 64, that's a record. poconos a lot of records going on at the ski resorts a record high of 58 degrees. philadelphia made it up into the mid 60's but our record is 72 so not quite a record here but right now you can see with this strong wind out of the south-southeast it's very warm inland. philadelphia 61, allentown, reading, trenton, 64 degrees. millville 56. notice, though, that ocean temperature 34. cape may with that wind off the ocean, quite a bit cooler, 45 degrees but still pretty warm for january standards. so, the next 12 hours we continue to get that rain. some of it will be heavy and once the arctic front blows through, temperatures dropping very quickly but until then, we'll be pretty mild generally in the 60's and 50's right past midnight. future tracker showing if you're heading out, it's friday night heading out to dinner maybe the movies, pack the rain gear, umbrella, at 8 o'clock we have heavy rain especially south of philadelphia. as we head through the overnight hours we've got another batch of very heavy rain. around 2 o'clock in the morning don't be surprised if you hear a rumble of thunder. it's strong enough with an arctic boundary blowing in that we could actually get some thunder and lightning and notice up across the poconos at 2 o'clock in the morning some of that icy mix, that could sneak into the northern lehigh valley, berks county around 4:30 in the morning and that's really the last of the rain for philadelphia. the arctic front blows through. we get the return of some sunshine but temperatures dropping very quickly. so, we have a winter weather advisory posted. it starts at 1 o'clock in the morning. honestly i think the icing will hold off probably until about 2, 3 o'clock but the advisory in effect for lancaster, berks county, the lehigh valley, northampton county and the poconos. not expecting a lot of icing but even a little bit of icing could cause some major problems. then if you're heading to the linc tomorrow afternoon for the eagles game, it will be dry but it's going to be cold. first quarter the temperature is 33. by the fourth, 27 degrees. throw away those numbers. look at this number. wind chill in the teens with winds up to about 30 miles per hour. definitely on the cold side. so, the five day at 5:00 showing tomorrow temperatures dropping. we dry out. we're in the 30's. sunday only 27. monday for the martin luther king holiday increasing clouds, 32. tuesday and wednesday the potential for some snow and then temperatures drop even more after down right balmy day today but get ready to pull your winter coats back out. plus, search and rescue efforts continue in california in the aftermath of deadly mud slight. slides. residents are being forced to leave their homes so crews can locate the missing. president trump's comments about immigrants from certain countries garner backlash. we're live from washington with the latest on the fallout. >> there is widespread and worldwide condemnation today of those comments by president trump after he reportedly used vulgar language to describe african countries while discussing immigration. well, the president tried to back pedal on those comments today. one prominent lawmaker who was at the meeting says the president words were "vial and filled with hate". kenneth moton joins us live with fallout from those comments. >> reporter: brian president trump is en route to mar-a-lago. he had one public event today but he refused to address those alleged comments on immigration. president trump honoring the man who called for racial justice. >> we are all created equal by god. >> reporter: the president signed a mlk day proclamation. >> mr. president are you a racist. >> reporter: but ignored questions about reports of his use of an offensive term. he was angry when he was told a possible deal on immigration would include protection from immigrants from african countries and haiti reportedly saying why are we having all these people from expletive countries come here. trump did tweet friday morning his language was tough but "this was not the language used." another quote never said anything derogatory about haitians other than haiti is obviously a very poor and troubled country. never said take them out. made up by dems. >> it is not true. he said these hate filled things and he said them repeatedly. it was a heartbreaking moment. >> reporter: republicans tom cotton and david purdue also in the room said in statement we do not recall the president saying these comments specifically. other lawmakers condemning the alleged remarks many have called racist. >> always a great customer and a great a life. sources say trump suggested the u.s. should bring in more immigrants from places like norway. house speaker paul ryan called the comments unfortunate and unhelpful. >> i think it's a big part of our strength whether you're coming from haiti. we've got great friends from africa in jamesville who are doctors who are just incredible citizens. >> reporter: the president's tweets came after the white house had not denied the reports saying the president wants to welcome immigrants who "contribute in and assimilate into our great nation." reporting live kenneth moton channel6 "action news." >> as the fallout from the president's comments was still unraveling mr. trump fired off a tweet announcing that he canceled a visit to london to open a new united states embassy there. he said his cancellation was because his predecessor barack obama sold the old embassy for what mr. trump called peanuts. the problem with that is that the deal was actually made in 2008 under then president george bush. the president's cancellation sparked widespread mockery on twitter even prompting madame tussaud's to put its wax work of the president outside the museum. president trump's visit was expected to have taken place next month. >> now to the latest from california where rescuers are digging through debris trying to find any sign of five people still missing after those deadly mudslides. nearly the entire city of montecito is under a mandatory evacuation order. 10,000 people have been forced to leave their homes so search crews can get access to the area. at least 17 people were killed, more than 500 homes and businesses have been damaged or destroyed. residents there know that hope is fading for those who have not been located. >> the fire department keeps coming in and checking on us and we're supposed to call them if we find any bodies. >> evacuation orders are not expected to be lifted for another two weeks and we now know that those killed include a little three-year-old child. world news with david muir will have the latest from southern california as well as more from fallout from president trump's comments. all that coming up after "action news" starting at 6:30. >> from our new jersey news room now former mercer county public official now faces five years behind bars after pleading guilty to theft. investigators say mark holmes sr. former mayor of lawrence township stole more than $90,000 when he was executive director of the asbury park housing authority. they say he did so by diverting state grants collecting reimbursements for unauthorized meals and double dipping on per diem payments. in addition to possible prison time holmes must also pay $35,000 in restitution and forfeit his government funded pension. >> turning to the weather now, accuweather has an alert after one of the rainiest days we've seen in quite awhile. the rain washed away a lot of snow and that led to some other problems. the action cam along martin luther king drive today. you can see cars struggling to get through high water. it was slow going as even trucks and suv's had trouble making it through the flooded roadway. meteorologist adam joseph here now with our first check of the accuweather forecast. hi, adam. >> yeah, monica the problem was the heavy rain also some snow melt and also the ground is pretty much frozen solid except the very top layer so the water can't seep night ground it just runs off and collects in some area roads. we picked up about a inch and a quarter so far in philadelphia and we're not done yet. wilmington over an inch doylestown over three-quarters of an inch pottstown half an inch and far less in south jersey where we just barely have gotten over a trace in atlantic city but dealing with some very dense fog down at the shore. storm tracker6 live double scan you can see we do have rainfall out there but it's very light. it's not heavy at this time. there's no yellows or reds but that will change going into the evening hours as heavier rain develops but nonetheless, evening rush and a little light rain and wet roads creates quite a mess especially on a friday busy evening. storm tracker6 live 3-d we have low pressure which is in the tennessee valley. that's going to cut way to the west but flows to the south there's some bands of heavy rain that will continue to work up from the south and then cold air on the backside and that rushes in here late tonight into tomorrow morning. so, we'll see an additional quarter to a half inch of rain overnight which could kind of ignite minor street flooding once again. temperatures will crash near dawn, maybe an icy mix in those far northwestern suburbs. after about 4 o'clock in the morning, so there is a winter weather advisory after midnight to 10:00 a.m. saturday where there could be some icy spots that some sleet or freezing rain at the tail end but this doesn't happen until the wee hours of saturday morning. we're talking about wind chills, brutal wind chills for the eagles game guys, coming up in that full accuweather forecast. >> okay, adam thanks. see you shortly. it is time to check on the evening commute. >> all right gina gannon live in the "action news" traffic center. she has details. hi, gina. >> hi, guys. unfortunately we're starting off with another issue this one on the ben franklin bridge. actually it looks like it just cleared so there you go, some good news. we had an earlier accident on the westbound side of the ben franklin bridge right at the upside. it was out here blocking that left lane but it looks like it has just since cleared so some good news there but expect a bit of congestion out there approaching the vine street expressway. let's talk about what else is happening on the schuylkill expressway. look at this big, big westbound delay. if you're traveling right around city avenue. so, that's going to be a slow go for you. your westbound travel time right now about 38 minutes between the vine out to the blue route and 41 minutes out there on the eastbound side. now, westbound expect delays from montgomery out to the conshohocken curve and that eastbound side 202 out to the vine street expressway so going to be crowded on the schuylkill expressway. but if you're traveling on the roosevelt boulevard i would say looks like we are just about wrapping up with this delay but northbound still heavy 76 out to broad street and it looks like on that southbound side you're just tapping the brakes as you approach 76. but i want to talk to you about a new issue on the pa turnpike eastbound just approaching street road word of an accident with injuries out there and the left lane is blocked so that could definitely slow you down and it looks like as well that the southbound side of route one is slowed down as well because of that. so little problem this afternoon. guys, back to you. >> all right, gina, thank you. the upper darby police department is trending on social media once again tomorrow against the atlanta falcons. lots of concerns about nick foles going into this game but by all accounts doug pederson alshon jeffrey saying foles is looking more comfortable and he's in better command of the huddle going into the game. >> i'm not going to worry about nick foles. i think he'll be fine against the atlanta falcons. i like the way the eagles approached the 2016 game against the atlanta falcons a game they won 24-15. it was a manhood style of game. a -- you'll see six offensive line men on the field for the eagles. they used this 12 times this game against the falcons and of course a tight end. so now you've got seven on the line. of those 12 snaps they had with the heavy group they had 57 yards. that's almost 5 yards per attempt. run that tape and you will see this is matthews in game in 16 but the same plays the eagles ran against the falcons two years ago, you're going to see it in this game tomorrow. look at the ability of the running back to cut back. ajayi will see that get to the outside but it's the manhood style again. come off the ball. run the football. >> jay ajayi had 130 yards against the falcons earlier this seen season playing for the dolphins. let's take it about the eagles defense. huge part of this is getting to matt ryan who has been horrible at the linc. he's lost three of his four starts here. >> same approach defensively down in the trenches, dominate. that's what you have to do. falcons only rushed for 48 yards against the eagles in that 2016 game. make them one dimensional. now here comes the eagles in the trenches. out any up and downing or puddling that might be an issue for the evening commute and really not much of an issue right now as you look live from mobile6 at the bensalem exit of the pennsylvania turnpike heading westbound. everything in this spot at least moving along pretty well right now despite the rain. of course always a good idea to take it slow out there. >> let's make sure we turn the faucet off now with adam joseph. >> won't be until tomorrow morning that the faucet turns off. now that it's darken countered big puddles in area roadways dark so you don't see it until the last minute. just take it easy as the rain kicks up in intensity. the storm is down in the tennessee valley. cold air on the north side with the cold sleet freezing rain in the ohio valley but we still have quite a bit of precipitation coming up the pike there i-95 so again, even though there's a temporary lull right now there's heavier rain there is going to move back in. but as we take a look closer here on storm tracker6 live double scan there you can see a general light green philadelphia to the north and west which is the steady light rain despite it's not heavy roads are wet, the rain is falling, windshield wipers are on and if you encounter some fog, you definitely want to put the low beams, not the high beams because the less light that you send out when it hits that fog the less light is refracted and reflected back into your eyes. so, we'll continue to watch that radar for you. as we look at temperatures, 61 degrees in philadelphia right now, 64 in allentown. 63 trenton. record high temperatures today for allentown and trenton, wilmington and the poconos. right now we're generally in the 50's and 60's and we'll stay this warm at least through the midnight hour so there's no threat of any icing happening here before the midnight hour. as we look at satellite and radar there again you see all that precipitation coming up from the south. there's the center of the low so as that low tracks to our north and west the cold air is going to wrap in back behind it but by the time that cold air gets in, most of the precipitation shuts off. so, rain turning heavy at times, again overnight tonight you can see an additional half an inch to what some areas have already seen, more than an inch of rain. 32 in the suburbs. 44 degrees for center city. there's the radar in the snapshot here at 8 o'clock. those pockets of moderate to heavy rainfall. that continues with the heaviest coming in midnight to 2 o'clock in the morning. it is still rain at 2:00 a.m. up to the poconos, that's where it flips over to freezing rain north of there and then again by the time most of the precipitation is gone, that's when the cold air comes in. breaking the clouds apart first thing 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning and by 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon decent amount of sunshine and if we take a look at future tracker in the ice mode for sleet or freezing rain you can just see it's on the fringe parts of our viewing area mainly confined up to the poconos. how it's going to feel. drops into the 20's late tonight, early tomorrow morning going into tomorrow afternoon. in fact, it is going to be in the single digits with winds 15 to 30 miles an hour by the end of the day tomorrow and if you're tailgating, going to the eagles game or just planning on being outdoors at any time tomorrow, there are gusty winds at the eagles game, temperatures falling into the 20's with wind chills the entire game only in the teens. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, cold once again heading into this weekend but it's not as brutal as last saturday but still quite a change from today and then brisk, cold, 27 on sunday with sunshine. your day of service at freezing but it's a dry day. doesn't look like a big system here tuesday, wednesday but we could get some snow showers or flurries on tuesday, maybe a lingering one on wednesday as temperatures fall wednesday again into the fired up for their playoff date with the falcons and the city of camden is swearing in its new mayor tonight. but the big story on "action news" tonight is a day that had folks looking for me to -- noah's arc. accuweather promised a soaking rain and that's what we've been getting. look at this scene from penn's landing. we've also had flooding in low lying areas like along mlk drive on the banks of the schuylkill river and the bad news, we're not done yet. the rain was the presumed cause of a mudslide along the schuylkill expressway this afternoon. sky6 shows traffic struggling to squeeze into a single lane as trees and debris covered the eastbound expressway between gladwyne and belmont avenue. meteorologist cecily tynan tells us where we have been and where we're going next. cecily. >> and jim, double scan live showing the storm system is far from done with us yet. we've got some heavy rain that's moving out of virginia right now. we had some heavy rain earlier. there's snow out to the west and this is really bringing us some wild weather. double scan live zoomed in shows right now we have a steady generally light to moderate rain west of philadelphia but there is more that's going to be moving up from the south. so, tonight, friday night if you're heading out, take the rain gear. an additional quarter to a half inch. we've already gotten about an inch and a quarter in philadelphia. more minor street flooding and then an arctic front flows through. what this will do is bring us a big crash in temperatures near dawn and as that colder air moves in there could be some icing in the far north and west counties.
