station's general manager came out and said all claims of mistreatment were investigated and determined to be unfounded. flannigan in the meantime committed suicide following a police chase, the third and pictures of the heartfelt tributes the journalists that lost their lives. drexel university is putting their studentses on alert after a series of crimes near their homes on campus next week. >> annie mccormick is live in powelton what we they are doing to keep their students safe. you spoke with a victim of one of those crimes? >> luckily the girls were not home at the time and are okay. but police are okay, in at least two cases people were inside sleeping when the burglar or burglars were inside stealing. drexel senout a campus wide alert and upped their patrols. >> drexel student lisa could not get into her apartment, someone locked the door from the inside and knew her sister wasn't home. >> i basically had to break through the lock. >> i looked in and my tv was gone, it was right in the fronts and then also my new laptop i got a few weeks ago and my backpack was taken. >> the mccardle sisters are just two of the victims of burglars in a span of apartments near drexel university. police received reports of five duringries, they believe two apartments were hit in the 2200 block of powelton and another one in the 3200 block of summer. then monday came two more reported burglaries, this time later in the morning in the 300 block of north 33rd street, in those cases a front door was propped open and the during alreadies muscled their way into two apartments. philadelphia are not having luck with surveillance video, and they are urging students to stay vigilant. >> we have not caught anybody coming into the buildings, the person doing it is aware of the area and is walking zns of the campus and can avoid detention of the cameras, it's a matter of alerts the kids at this point. >> it's the end of the semester here at drexel so a lot of stubtss have newest arrival to bear country, meet kayla, the sloth bear was introduced to people today. the 2-year-old came from the san diego zoo back in july, to be cared for in philadelphia. zoo keepers say she and comfy and high in the middle 70s. as we look at tropical storm erica, she looks mighty with her size, winds have come down from this afternoon, sustained at 40 miles per hour, some shear with strong winds trying torica up a bit, she will encounter land and dry air, it will keep it as a weak tropical storm at this point and then beyond that as it passes through the bahamas on thursday morning, it could be off the coast of moment as a category one hurricane. the cone of uncertainly is anywhere you see the red, she could go to the gulf of mexico or florida, at the very minimal she is philadelphia, it happened at 3:30 a.m., on the 1400 block of city avenue, three masked men robbed the store and one had a gun and they attacked the clerk who went to the hospital. the suspects got away with the money. police in philadelphia are looking for the man that broke into a cheese shop, they say he shattered the glass at larry's steaks on west girard avenue, once inside he took two cash registers and ran off, police have not said what was inside of those registers, they are asking anyone with information to give them a call. we have much more coming up on "action news." criminals the best ones out there. workers at a mercer county jewelry store are reeling today. two thieves came in and smashed the cases and made off with thousands of dollars worth of diamonds. >> trent jewelers not a big change, they have been operating in the area for 50 years, the police and the owners believe that the thieves must have cased the store before pulling off the heist, they knew exactly what they wanted and swooped in to get it in the matter of seconds. >> two tleefs broke into the jewelry store and one took a tire iron to smash a case and his partner made a beeline to another case, they filled their case worth of $80,000 worth of rings and other estate jewelry. >> he ran directly to the case and took out -- busted the glass and took out the five trays of diamond rings, each tray had 22 rings in it. >> the two men were both wearing bandanas to cover their faces. >> someone had to come in and case the place. >> employees are reviewering the last months surveillance tapes to see if the burglars appear prior to the heist. >> police are hope that someone out there may recognize the pair. >> maybe someone will recognize the manrisms or the method they killed in virginia yesterday, they are planning the vigils starting tonight to remember allison parker and adam ward, police say that a disgruntled employee vester flannigan killed a man in the middle of an interview on live television, he shot the woman being interview and she survived with a gunshot wound to her back. philadelphia police are investigating a robbery at a motel in winfield this morning at the north motor inn, police say that two men held a guest at gun point and took his wallet, phone and backpack and the victim was not hurt and the suspect ran from the scene. a cumberland county man accused of killing his brother tried to hide the body made his first appearance in court today. peter rawlin faces nine counts in the case of his brother steven, he was reported missing a year after family and friends last saw him, earlier this year they found his remains buried around the area of vineland. an ocean county, new jersey, man will spend five years in prison for trying to lure a girl. allen plead guilty to the charge in may, prosecutors say that he handed the girl a note at the stafford public library asking her to go to the movies. a professional poker player accused of cheating says that it was the casino's food saying they use free liquor and waitresses to distract gamblers. both sides are suing each other over the big win, the borgata says he was sorting and arranging good carded and ivy says it was all his skill. now to tracking a tropical storm erica, officials in the dominican republic say that four people have died in mudslides and flooding hitting until monday or tuesday that erica would see landfall in the united states. as we look at the present imagery, the red is the thunderstorms and intense winds sustained at 45 miles per hour at guadeloupe right now and the leeward islands and is encountsering an infavorable environment. it helps to feed tropical systems, water is extremely warm as well. on the flip side a lot of strong winds in the upper atmosphere called wind shear as it heads to san juan and the dominican republic and that helps to rip the storm apart and not everything is coming together to keep the storm on the strong the northwesterly flow this afternoon, that is an indication that the atmosphere up stairs really cool and with the august sunshine, at the shore, the weak wind coming in from the northwest trying to fight a sea breeze, overall 77 and 78 degrees, down at the shore points in new jersey, 79 in wilmington and only middle 70s to the north and west, at the poconos at 67 degrees, satellite and radar, a couple of things going on. there you can see the cumulous clouds building in from the north and west and high clouds are streaming in from the coast, a storm off the carolinas developing and it will stay off to sea and we'll see a couple of high clouds from that in the beaches in delaware and shore points in new jersey. the clouds will clear out and how in the suburbs and 63 for stent center city. and the jet stream is bringing in the cooler air temporarily and temperatures around 80 degrees, the jet stream will lift back up into canada, over the weekend and beginning and middle parts of next week with the jet stream to the north it turns hazy, hot and humid with temperatures in the 90, erica will help keep that heat and humidity in as she buckles that jet stream to the north. as we
