[music] dari: and stevie wonder will be performing his third and final concert of the day for fans in central park. that show begins tonight at 7:30. steve: that's pretty cool. dari: that's an amazing opportunity. when it comes to stripping down to the bare essentials, who would have known the people of new jersey don't expect to be modest. in fact, they're leaders. steve: a study says the garden state tops the nation when it comes to people baring it all. we send sharon crowley to a nude beach to get a look >> gunnison beach, not for the modest. it's new jersey's only nude beach. >> i love there's somewhere you can go to be naked. there's not many places you can go and be naked. >> reporter: the perfect spot for us to find out from those comfortable baring it all to find out why they like to be naked. >> people don't normally want to come to jersey. >> i find it hard to believe. >> why? >> new jersey's cold most of the year. heating is expensive. so in order to be naked a lot, you have to turn up the heat at home. i find it hard to believe. new jersey is very uptight. >> reporter: trulia and whispers teamed up to do a survey asking people across the country what was the most unapologetic thing they did at home. apparently here in new jersey, getting naked was no. 1. >> i enjoy being naked around my house. the fact i can do it in public is nice. >> reporter: even though it seems garden state residents mostly practice being in the buff at home in private, on this sweltering hot day, maybe the nudists at gunnison beach are on to something. sharon crowley, fox 5 news. steve: the teen choice awards aired on fox 5 last night. dari: and live shows, well, you get what you get. this is what happened. how a pro football player inserted himself into the conversation by making his kids ha steve: a case that left a long island family demanding justice for more than a decade may be coming to an end. police arrested a suspect wanted for murder back in 1999. dari: jodi goldberg was at the courtroom in nassau county where the suspect had a message for the victim's family. >> i'm sorry for the pain i caused everyone's family, the destruction to the family. i'm sorry. >> reporter: he apologized as he walked into court monday morning. the man who prosecutors say went under many names and aliases for 16 years pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges. it happened at a wedding outside of the masonic temple in hicksville in june of 1999. he and a guest got into an argument when he opened fire shooting and killing a 19-year-old before taking off, leaving the bride and guests stunned in disbelief. >> my heart feels so pleased they have caught this culprit and bring him to justice. >> reporter: his parents had waited for this day for a long time. their other son held back tears as he remembered his older brother. >> he was a very loving guy. very, very family oriented. >> he always go to church, take care of the poor and the needy, and he always do the right thing. >> reporter: nassau county acting district attorney said he went from country to country, homeless for most of the time, managing to stay one step ahead of the law. with help from a tip, local and trinidad authorities caught up with him in march. he was extradited on friday and brought back to long island. >> he was happy to be back in america. >> we knew who we wanted. we knew who our suspect is. it was a matter of time to apprehend him. >> the family hopes justice will be served. >> the family has never been the same. never been the same since then. >> i always know the lord is up there looking and he will get caught one day. >> reporter: he has been remanded and is due in court on wednesday. if convicted, he could face life without parole. jodi goldberg, fox 5 news. dari: well, there is a town hall meeting tonight to discuss the latest on the legionnaires outbreak that's hop appening in the bronx. it will begin in about 30 minutes. officials will discuss how legionnaires' is contracted and how it is treated, at least 124 people have been sickened by the disease. 12 have died. steve: the summer of the shark continues to live up to its name. a hammerhead shark spotted off jones beach has made its way to brooklyn and queens. elias has a tracking device and has been making a tour of the coast lines. it may now be heading out to sea. dari: many people struggle with finding their true identity. >> one camp in new jersey, korean americans and adoptees come together to feel a oneness that can't be found anywhere else. christina park shares their stories. stories. >> reporter: many of these children are on a very important journey, discovering who they are. this is a national camp where korean adoptees who straddled two worlds can do that and feel a oneness with kids like themselves. >> a lot of them talk about camp is the one time that they are truly themselves. to think that only happens for a week out of a year can be kind of emotional. >> reporter: a former camper and counselor says the camp helps fill a place in his heart where something was missing. >> i didn't find my korean side until my late teens. once i did, it really helped me become more whole. >> we talked about adoption and being, like, stuff like that. yeah. it was cool. >> it gives me a nice chance to see that there's a lot more people like me and i'm really happy about that. >> children can take their masks off, be real, be vulnerable, be supportive. this camp dance mixes costumes with a dance that symbolizes two worlds becoming one. it's a complicated, yet beautiful dance. many say they've taken it to heart. many children, tired of fighting stereotypes, are channelling that energy in a positive way. parents here couldn't be prouder, many wearing their hearts on their sleeves on in david's case, his arm, a tattoo. he and his wife couldn't be prouder of their two children. everyone bonded over, what else, korean food. family style. filling bellies and hearts with love and friendship to last a lifetime. like so many delicious and unique ingredients in the traditional korean dish, everyone brought their special and brave experiences to camp to make one beautiful experience for everyone to enjoy. delicious. i'm christina park, fox 5 news. steve: nice. how about this? should every child get a trophy just for taking part in a sport? one prominent nfl player says no way. dari: and many men have raved about the little blue pill for years. little women may have a little pink pill. but first, here's tonight's new york minute. >> reporter: a new piece of art in times square. it's wishing on you and some brooklyn-based artists collaborated on an adaptation of an asian prayer wheel. the take is updated with modern themes and it's interactive. >> take a spin of the wheel. enjoy the ritual of times square and thinking about what this art means in our society. >> you can take a spin on the wheel all month long. it will be there through september 1st. drawing mixed emotions among parents. >> reporter: last year i ran the brooklyn half in an hour and 48 minutes. thousands finished ahead of me, but i got a medal. so, too, did everyone who finished after me. if james harrison were my father, he would have taken this away. >> super bowl, 99 yard touchdown, interception return. >> reporter: as a steelers fan, mark reveers one time defensive players of the year james harrison. he hopes the outside linebacker's decision to revoke the participation trophies given to his sons doesn't inspire the rest of us. >> when i was a kid, you had to win. >> he did something i thought was very, very admirable. >> dr. jeff gardere agrees. teams and players of any age must prove their meddle to deserve a medal. but he believes some kids need a physical incentive like a trophy to try something new. >> as a psychologist, there are youngsters who are out there that need to be encouraged in my way possible. >> the smile on their face is incredible. so it's not a bad thing. >> reporter: so mark's shop keeps building and selling trophies, trophies for winners, trophies for losers and trophies just for showing up. dr. jeff and a 275 expecting to get paid for work that's not really produced. >> reporter: i'm mac king, fox 5 news. steve: all right. there's a new way to get that much needed energy boost at the gym. dari: it's called fat water. you saw that. it's not your average sports drink. fox 5's health news is next. and we'll explain. >> coming up, we're introducing you to the king of this castle. his name is sir ivan and he's created a medieval dari: fox 5 health news. and the so-called female viagra pill could get fda approval this week after being rejected twice before. the drug is supposed to boost libido is women, but does it do that? joining us is dr. devi from nyu's school of medicine. hello. >> nice to see you. dari: we've talked about this a few times. we're like there's a lot of controversy about whether or not it works. what's your take? >> it works a little differently than viagra. it's not about performance. the women have to take it every day. the idea is that their desire would increase. when you look at the trials, the scientific research, it looks like their desire does increase. they report being more satisfied, less stressed. they have more satisfying events, sexual events, but at the same time, the concern is the risk. when you balance the benefits and the risks, the risks are if you have alcohol with it, you could get more sedated and have problems with dizziness and fainting and you might have that without alcohol. to me, i kind of feel like why not make that individual decision with your doctor and at least make it available to women, especially if there's a benefit. the controversy is about -- steve: do you expect it will be as popular as male viagra? >> i don't think it will be as popular. the benefits are not supposed to be as good. but at the same time, i think it would be a step in the right direction. because if you look at the history, two dozen drugs have been approved for male sexual dysfunction. for women, none have been improved. if you look at pharmaceutical companies, if you're an investor, why would you want to invest in something that gets rejected? you put your efforts into male drugs. at the same time, you don't want people doing things for a pr campaign. steve: that's the thing. you make that point. threats -- there's been no pills yet. whether it works or not, there's a lot of talk. who knows. dari: let's talk about fat water. that's the latest hot name for a sports drink. it's called fat water because it's infused with coconut oil, all fat. the company says the combination is supposed to give you an energy and metabolism boost. what do you know about fat water? >> not to come out too strongly against something, but i can't see any scientific basis for this. water is healthy. we need water. fat also in small quantities helps us and our brain to function and helps us with other things like our skin's moisture. at the same time, if you're going to put fat into something, why not have it in a more tasty form, right, something you would like better. in this case you're just getting extra calories and fat and thinking you're healthy. but the calories can turn into fat in your body. steve: we tend to go nuts with these things. we go to the gym and we did get a statement from the company that makes fat water to ask about the claims they're making. they did not get back to us with a response. we tried. we did not get word from them. >> all right. workout, do what you've got to do, stay fit. >> the other way to think about it with the fat water, if it's supposed to help you absorb the water better, it doesn't work. think of lotion with skin. if you put your lotion on your skin before you jump in the shower, the water sticks on your skin. if you take your shower first and then put the lotion on, it will hold that moisture in. steve: keep the moisture in. >> this could potentially interfere with your absorption of the water. steve: right. a huge market. multibillion dollars, all this workout stuff. dari: maple water, this water. steve: always something new. let's talk about the weather. you had to go to the gym today. too hot to deal with running outside or anything. >> not a good idea to exercise outside. if you do it, you want to do it in the early morning hours or probably in the evening as well. that's probably the most comfortable, quotations comfortable, time of day. today, 95. we set a record. we tied the record set in 1944 with that temperature. we started off with a warm 78, which is 10 degrees above our average for this time of year. 88 is where we're sitting at in the park. we have a south wind coming in at 12 miles an hour. it's the south wind that's bringing in the heat and humidity across the region. area-wide, it's very warm. we're in the 80s in some spots. the humidity is making it uncomfortable. 83 in islip. 82 towards montauk. in the 90s at newark. and dew points are in the 60s and 70s which makes you feel sticky and uncomfortable. it's hot and humid conditions. those extend down towards the mid-atlantic. here are the temperatures around the region. 82 in boston. that's a little more comfortable. 89 in williamsport. 93 in philly. same in d.c. we're shy of 90 out towards pittsburgh. a look at satellite and radar shows things are quiet. we picked up a couple of isolated showers across new jersey and up towards the bronx. i think i'm going to leave in the chance for a few more to pop up. i think most of us should stay dry through the rest of the evening. i'm watching a couple of components. we're under the influence of high pressure in the northeast. out to the west, we have a cold front that's sitting way out here. there are showers and storms being aligned, but it's going to make a slow progression towards the area. this high is sitting right here keeping that at bay. we're going to see a nice southwest flow. maybe not nice for some of us. that's ushering in the heat and humidity. it will remain with temperatures above average. they will come down a few degrees. it will feel humid. it will be uncomfortable until the front comes through by the end of the week and sparks showers and storms and brings in drier air. we'll be hot from newark towards miami tomorrow. 80s from memphis. comfortable in minneapolis where highs will be in the upper 60s. hot in vegas. nice in l.a. temperatures at 80. our futurecast shows partly cloudy tonight. that's how we'll wake up tomorrow. in the afternoon, there is a bit of instability that will rotate through. there's a greater chance of more widespread scattered showers north and west of the city. long island, you should be dry. the jersey shore, too. that would be a great place to be if you want to head to the beaches. on wednesday, there'll be more clouds in place. we'll
