back to normal. still a little above average if you want to be technical about it. so it's colder but nothing like what we experienced earlier on in the month. a live look from the mellon camera. the schuylkill expressway is the normal traffic backup it normally is this afternoon. we're continuing to see more typical continues of what you'd expect for the latter half of january. temperatures back that air feel much worse. so winds out of the northwest 10 to 20 miles per hour. this is how it really feels outside right now. and this is a real shock to the system. after the 62-degree day lower 20s. you'll need to bundle up for tomorrow morning. i'll have the forecast in just a few minutes. worry in a north philadelphia neighborhood after a barrage of bullets injured four people, including two boys. it appears the two were innocent bystanders and now people who live in that area are concerned about the community. the shooting happened last night outside a takeout restaurant on 24th street and ridge avenue. steven fisher joins us live in that neighborhood. >> a lot of people on edge tonight. >> neighbors we spoke to say this type of violence shows no regard for human life. and it was right here behind me on 24th street where four people were shot. fortunately, they are expected to be okay. police say 16 shots were fired out of a side car window here on 24th street. >> it's terrible. always shooting around here. >> reporter: police believe the intended target was a 22-year-old man who was hit in the leg and the back. two 13-yeerlar-olds and a 52-year-old man were also caught in the line of fire. all are expected to survive. >> at night, it is so dark up in here. >> you don't like to go out and walk at night? >> no, not up in here. no. i really don't. >> reporter: and this is an example of why. neighbors who live around 24th street are fed up with the violence. >> a few more minutes later, just walking or taking my time it could have been me. thank god it wasn't me, and my heart and prayers go out to the two little kids that got shot and caught up in something really tragic. >> reporter: to this point, police say no arrests have been made. they are searching, trying to obtain surveillance video from the area. steven fisher, nbc 10 news. aic accident is what investigators are calling the death of a skier at blue mountain ski resort in the poconos. a 53-year-old man was skiing alone last night when he collided with another skier on a double black diamond run. the county coroner says the man died from a blow to the neck and head. the last 24 hours, there have been bombshell revelations in the russia investigation, including new details on former national security adviser michael flynn. nbc news has learned flynn spoke to the fbi without a lawyer just one day after he was sworn in. according to sources, he then hid that meeting from the white house. flynn later pleaded guilty to lying to the fbi as part of the agency's investigation into potential collusion between the trump campaign and russia. he is now cooperating with special counsel robert mueller's team. a sticky spill is finally cleaned up in delaware county. a truck filled with honey spilled on route 291 in tinicum township. environmental crews worked into the morning to clean up that mess. skyforce 10 over the scene last night. they had to use power sprayers and squeegees to get the sticky mess off the road. the biggest challenge was stopping the honey from spilling into storm drains. the family of a new jersey state trooper kills in the line of duty has been awarded a settlement of more than $2.3 million. last year, he was killed as heed to extinguish a car fire. he was hit by a driver who prosecutors say failed to move over. he died a few hours later. he left behind a fiance and two young sons. an indefinite ban on hard alcohol is in effect at lehigh university fraternity events because of the high number of medical calls. the a week of emotional testimony from more than 150 women. >> all rise. >> reporter: after a marathon of heartbreaking testimony, larry nassar addressed the women and girls he abused. >> i will carry your words with me for rest of my days. >> reporter: his statement earned him no sympathy from the judge. nassar ultimately sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison. a punishment in addition to the 60 years he previously had been given for child pornography charges. >> the emotional hearing stretched days longer as more and more women came forward. >> my confidence was shattered and my self-worth in the mid to upper 50s. sunshine on the board. looks real good. enjoy outdoor day on saturday because saturday, even though it will stay mild it looks like it will be rainy as well. that's the tradeoff as we see some periods of rain and some good sleeping in weather there on sunday itself. temperatures right now in the levalley. 35 in reading. move you into lehigh county. 36 in whitehaul. steal from a macy's. the men loaded merchandise into a shopping cart, shopping bags at the macy's in exton square mall. the suspects pepper sprayed a prevention officer when he tried to stop them. they got away in a blue kia optima. a bank of america employee was caught allegedly stealing money from customers kelsey juliano stole more than $16,000 from four different customers' bank accounts at at the security guard inauguration ceremony. for the first time, north and south korea athletes will be part of a unified team even though the two countries have deep political cons. conflicts. in japan, thousands of fans gathered at a gym in downtown tokyo today to send off japan's national team. more than 100 athletes participated in that ceremony. back at home, a local luger from fort washington is gearing up for the start of the olympics. he's in latvia ahead of this weekend's final world cup of the season. we talked to andrew this afternoon via skype about what making the olympic the middle of a frigid winter in upstate new york. snowy owl was spotted catching a ride on an ice flow. despite the harsh winds and waves he stayed there about 30 minutes we're told bobbing up and down before taking off to find calmer waters. in the philippines, an erupting volcano is putting on a dazzling but increasingly dangerous show. police have been deployed to keep residents from getting within five miles of the crater. lava has flowed nearly two miles from the volcano. evacuation camps have been set up for people forced to leave their homes. >> ice flow to volcano to our area. before police discovered the crime. >> denise nakano is joining us live at that apartment complex in east falls. the details are so disturbing. what are you learning about a motive? >> reporter: well, jacqueline and jim, they believe an argument led up to this murder. malachi white, the suspect, had mental health issues and was off his medication. he admitted to police that he killed his mother in the sixth floor apartment they shared together. >> the fact that that happened is outrageous. >> reporter: the avenue at east falls home to students, couples and families became a crime scene that brought investigators to an apartment that a mother shared with her son. >> family members contacted the police. they had not seen her in a couple of days or heard from her. police went to the back to normal. still a little above average if you want to be technical about it. so it's colder but nothing like what we experienced earlier on in the month. a live look from the mellon camera. the schuylkill expressway is the normal traffic backup it normally is this afternoon. we're continuing to see more typical continues of what you'd expect for the latter half of january. temperatures back down to normal levels. 34 in coatesville. 34 in dover. at the shore points in the lower 40s. but it really is about the wind this time of year. if you get a windy day like we today, it really makes that air feel much worse. so winds out of the northwest 10 to 20 miles per hour. this is how it really feels outside right now. and this is a real shock to the system. after the 62-degree day yesterday, 31 right now in philadelphia for the real feel. 2 23 292 blue bell. 11 in the poconos. here are the next 12 hours. the trend line is down. we are looking at windchills dropping into the lower 20s. you'll need to bundle up for tomorrow morning. i'll have the forecast in just a few minutes. worry in a north philadelphia neighborhood after a barrage of bullets injured four people, including two boys. it appears the two were innocent bystanders and now people who live in that area are concerned about the community. the shooting happened last night outside a takeout restaurant on 24th street and ridge avenue. steven fisher joins us live in that neighborhood. >> a lot of people on edge tonight. >> neighbors we spoke to say this type of violence shows no regard for human life. and it was right here behind me on 24th street where four people were shot. fortunately, they are expected to be okay. police say 16 shots were fired out of a side car window here on 24th street. >> it's terrible. always shooting around here. >> reporter: police believe the intended target was a 22-year-old man who was hit in the leg and the back. two 13-yeerlar-olds and a 52-year-old man were also caught in the line of fire. all are expected to survive. >> at night, it is so dark up in here. >> you don't like to go out and walk at night? >> no, not up in here. no. i really don't. >> reporter: and this is an example of why. neighbors who live around 24th street are fed up with the violence. >> a few more minutes later, just walking or taking my time it could have been me. thank god it wasn't me, and my heart and prayers go out to the two little kids that got shot and caught up in something really tragic. >> reporter: to this point, police say no arrests have been made. they are searching, trying to obtain surveillance video from the area. steven fisher, nbc 10 news. aic accident is what investigators are calling the death of a skier at blue mountain ski resort in the poconos. a 53-year-old man was skiing alone last night when he collided with another skier on a double black diamond run. the county coroner says the man died from a blow to the neck and head. the last 24 hours, there have been bombshell revelations in the russia investigation, including new details on former national security adviser michael flynn. nbc news has learned flynn spoke to the fbi without a lawyer just one day after he was sworn in. according to sources, he then hid that meeting from the white house. flynn later pleaded guilty to lying to the fbi as part of the agency's investigation into potential collusion between the trump campaign and russia. he is now cooperating with special counsel robert mueller's team. a sticky spill is finally cleaned up in delaware county. a truck filled with honey spilled on route 291 in tinicum township. environmental crews worked into the morning to clean up that mess. skyforce 10 over the scene last night. they had to use power sprayers and squeegees to get the sticky mess off the road. the biggest challenge was stopping the honey from spilling into storm drains. the family of a new jersey state trooper kills in the line of duty has been awarded a settlement of more than $2.3 million. last year, he was killed as heed to extinguish a car fire. he was hit by a driver who prosecutors say failed to move over. he died a few hours later. he left behind a fiance and two young sons. an indefinite ban on hard alcohol is in effect at lehigh university fraternity events because of the high number of medical calls. the interfraternity counsel says the goal is to create a safer environment for students. ♪ a show of support today for school choice at archbishop ryan high school in the northeast. this rally was a week of emotional testimony from more than 150 women. >> all rise. >> reporter: after a marathon of heartbreaking testimony, larry nassar addressed the women and girls he abused. >> i will carry your words with me for rest of my days. >> reporter: his statement earned him no sympathy from the judge. nassar ultimately sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison. a punishment in addition to the 60 years he previously had been given for child pornography charges. >> the emotional hearing stretched days longer as more and more women came forward. >> my confidence was shattered and my self-worth was crushed. >> what i would hope was a legitimate medical procedure was, in fact, a sexual assault. >> reporter: rachel, one of the first to accuse dr. nassar, the last to speak. >> i did it because change. here is january and it's back. we have that as our weather headlines. it's chilly through friday. in fact, at times it will be downright cold. but it is january and you'd suspect that would be the case at times. we'll have that cold weather again through friday. saturday looks great, though. what a turn around. saturday, being outside, is absolutely delightful we're looking at temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. sunshine on the board. looks real good. enjoy outdoor day on saturday because saturday, even though it will stay mild it looks like it will be rainy as well. that's the tradeoff as we see some periods of rain and some good sleeping in weather there on sunday itself. temperatures right now in the levalley. 35 in reading. move you into lehigh county. 36 in whitehaul. 34 in nazareth 34 in easton. at the shore, noticing the daylight. 40 extra minutes of daylight from the winter solstice there earlier in december. so we are starting to add that light up and it's starting to make a difference here in the evening with the sunset times. temperatures down at the shore right now in the upper 30s to lower 40s from wildwood to atlantic city and dennis township. but the other states involved in the federal lawsuit. police are searching for two gunmen who shot and killed a philadelphia father just feet away from his family. investigators say the victim was shot execution style outside his apartment in east mt. erie last night. his girlfriend and two young daughters were inside the apartment and not hurt. police rushed the father to the hospital where he died. here's a look at stories making headlines our region today. montgomery county, there's a debate over a local police department. east greenville borough will keep its police force for now. the mayor wants to get rid of it and use the upper perkiomen police force instead. council members voted to table the issue on disbanding the department. police want to find these two men who tried to steal from a macy's. the men loaded merchandise into a shopping cart, shopping bags at the macy's in exton square mall. the suspects pepper sprayed a prevention officer when he tried to stop them. they got away in a blue kia optima. a bank of america employee was caught allegedly stealing money from customers kelsey juliano stole more than $16,000 from four different customers' bank accounts at cydney long, nbc 10 news. we are just 15 days away from the start of the winter olympics. and as athletes prepare for the games, so are security forces. south korean police carried out security drills at the security guard inauguration ceremony. for the first time, north and south korea athletes will be part of a unified team even though the two countries have deep political cons. conflicts. in japan, thousands of fans gathered at a gym in downtown tokyo today to send off japan's national team. more than 100 athletes participated in that ceremony. back at home, a local luger from fort washington is gearing up for the start of the olympics. he's in latvia ahead of this weekend's final world cup of the season. we talked to andrew this afternoon via skype about what making the olympic team means to him. >> it's a dream come true. i've always been very competitive growing up. and it would be great to win a medal. that would be everything. >> and i will be traveling next week to the winter olympics to bring complete coverage of all of our local athletes. you'll see the interviews only here on nbc 10. home of the winter games starting february 8th. a rare sight caught on video in the middle of a frigid winter in upstate new york. snowy owl was spotted catching a ride on an ice flow. despite the harsh winds and waves he stayed there about 30 minutes we're told bobbing up and down before taking off to find calmer waters. in the philippines, an erupting volcano is putting on a dazzling but increasingly dangerous show. police have been deployed to keep residents from getting within five miles of the crater. lava has flowed nearly two miles from the volcano. evacuation camps have been set up for people forced to leave their homes. >> ice flow to volcano to our area. temperatures are plunging lower and lower as we head into thursday morning. meteorologist steve sosna choinges us with the changes to expect. >> as long as i don't have to talk about a volcano the golf courses with temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. a range in temperatures between 30s to around 40 and unionville, chester county, 34. mid-30s from landsdale toward elroy and then down into new castle county. mid to upper 30s from northern newcastle county and mid-40s, that's what we saw last hour. we've now dropped down to about 40 degrees by the beaches down in rehoboth. feels-like temperatures. the numbing chill in the air. you need to dress for this. can't let this one go by. it will feel like the teens and 20s. live radar, quiet we have this batch of flurries. this is the batch of colder air coming in here. this is a warm front. off to the is warmer air. that starts to work its way in here by the time we get into friday and over the weekend. stepping up with temperatures, mid to upper 50s for the weekend. how does the weather turn out? friday is the sunny day. temperatures in low to mid-40s. saturday is a partly to mostly sunny day. mid to upper 50s. her apartment. her son confessed to beating her with a hammer. that is our top story tonight. i'm jacqueline london. >> i'm jim rosenfield. the sonly lived with his mother's body for several days before police discovered the crime. >> denise nakano is joining us live at that apartment complex in east falls. the details are so disturbing. what are you learning about a motive? >> reporter: well, jacqueline and jim, they believe an argument led up to this murder. malachi white, the suspect, had mental health issues and was off his medication. he admitted to police that he killed his mother in the sixth floor apartment they shared together. >> the fact that that happened is outrageous. >> reporter: the avenue at east falls home to students, couples and families became a crime scene that brought investigators to an apartment that a mother shared with her son. >> family members contacted the police. they had not seen her in a couple of days or heard from her. police went to the residence. >> reporter: 49-year-old tammy blunt was found stabbed and bludgeoned to death. they recovered a hammer. they believe her son malachi white used it in the attack. >> this is just terrible.
