>> better than the guy not knowing it was lebron james. lebron james had a metro card to get on the subway yesterday afternoon. it's a great story. we'll tell you about that. >> a classic new yorker. can you not? we're going to begin with a number of headlines out of washington, including new pressure on alabama rob roy moore to end his senate bid. significant new developments in the russia investigation. and an unprecedented hearing on capitol hill today, on the president's nuclear authority. we have a team of correspondents covering it all. we'll start with nbc's gabe gutierrez obvious the roy moore scandal. gabe, good morning to you. >> reporter: savannah, good morning. an unabated poll that came out since the allegations broke, doug jones is up 46-42. roy moore is slamming not just the democrats and the media, but some in his own party who are calling on him to step aside. in a new fund-raising e-mail, he insists it's not him that should quick, it's mitch mcconnell. >> i thought he was going to rai rape me. >> reporter: this morning, roy moore is fighting back, after a fifth woman makes accusations that he attacked her as a teenager. >> this is false. >> reporter: beverly young nelson. >> i was twisting and struggling. >> reporter: she claims that moore offered her a ride home. unstead, parked the car and assaulted her. >> she started squeezing my neck, attempting to force my head on to his crotch. i had tears running down my face. at some point -- at some point, he gave up. and then looked at me. and he told me -- he said, you're just a child. and he said, aim the district attorney. and if you tell anyone about this, no one will ever believe you. >> reporter: on capitol hill, outrage. >> i believe the women, yes. >> reporter: a growing number of top republicans saying moore should drop out. even senator ted cruz, one of only two who hadn't pulled his endorsement is now distancing himself. >> i can't urge the people of alabama to support a campaign in the face of these charges without serious persuasive demonstration that the charges are not true. >> reporter: but congressman mo brooks of alabama, is sticking by moore, saying that the judge will be a reliable vote on the debt and border security. >> roy moore will vote right for those issues. >> reporter: roy moore has threatened to sue "the washington post," after it first published allegations that he fondled girls in his 30s. >> he has never one time lifted a finger to me. he is the most gentle, most kind man i have ever known in my life. he is godly. >> i don't know the woman. i don't know anything about her. >> reporter: but nelson, his latest accuser, says moore signed her yearbook shortly before the alleged assault, calling her a beautiful girl. saying the other women inspired her to come forward. >> i no longer live in fear of him. >> reporter: doug jones is keeping a low profile, saying roy moore will be held accountable by the people of alabama for his actions. meanwhile on capitol hill, jackie speier will testify in changing sexual policies that are behind corporate america. there are new twists tied to the russian meddling investigation. we learn that the president's son, donald trump jr., was secretly communicating wit wikileaks during the campaign, something he is downplaying. >> reporter: good morning to you. the other big headline this morning, attorney general jeff sessions is considering the idea of appointing another special counsel to investigate other concerns, some involving hillary clinton and a controversial sale of uranium to russia. this is after he has pushed the doj. the fact that the eldest son is under a bright spotlight for his communications with wikileaks. this morning, democrats are lashing out, after new revelations donald trump jr. and wikileaks communicated online. wikileaks says it works in the nametransparency. but the u.s. intelligence agency believes it was used by the russian government. >> it shows a willingness to coordinate. it shows actual coordination in the timing of the trump campaign and also seeking information about the timing of wikileaks disclosures. it's very significant. >> trip, trdrip, drip, drip. >> reporter: overnight, donald trump jr. released his exchanges with wikileaks, after they were reported by "the atlantic" that said that the messages were turned over by investigators. "the atlantic" saying that many of the exchanges were one-sided, with trump responding to three of the wikileaks messages. here's the entire chain wi with @wikileaks. how ironic. in one exchange, wikileaks sent a direct message to trump jr. asking if he knew who was behind a super pac. off the record, i don't know who that is. but i'll ask around. in another instance, wikileaks spent trump a database with a link. stro strongly suggest your dad tweet this link. >> little pickup of dishonest media of incredible information by wikiwikileaks. two days later, trump jr. tweeted out the link wikileaks sent him. then, on election day, wikileaks wrote, hi, don, if your father loses, we think it is much more interesting if he does not concede and spends time challenging the media and other types of rigging it occurred. after it was clear trump had won, wikileaks wrote back, wow. trump jr. did not respond to either of those messages. the trump administration has long insisted there was no collusion with russia and no coordination with wikileaks. >> nothing could be further from the truth. >> reporter: but candidate trump trouted the information. it is another revelation that may add to the scrutiny around trump dpcampaign officials a russians. mike pompeo says wikileaks acts like a hostile intelligence service. we can say with confidence that we have no concerns about these documents and any questions raised about them have been easily answered in the proper forum. and the vice president says he first learned of this news from that published report yesterday. >> thank you. there's mounting questions surrounding the death of an army green beret in mali. one of the s.e.a.l.s said he choked out sergeant logan melgar. and that he and another s.e.a.l. were going to get back at the victim for another offense. the s.e.a.l.s.s told investigators they were wrestling with melgar when he stopped breathing. in the meantime, an exclusive new report from "the bailey beast," said that melgar had discovered they were pocketing a slush fund and confronted the men. now, to today's unprecedented hearing on capitol hill, focusing on the president's nuclear authority. it's a discussion that hasn't happened in washington in more than 40 years. nbc's chief foreign affair correspondent, and ma mitchell is here. >> the senate is raising the question on the president's authority to launch nuclear weapons. this case is not far behind. inside the codes of the nuclear arsenal. now, president trump is facing heat from some republicans, wanting to examine his power to launch nuclear weapons, after months of questioning his judgment. >> the president has not been able to demonstrate the stability nor some of the competence that he needs to demonstrate. >> reporter: republican senator bob corker, a one-time trump ally turned fierce critic, convening a hearing on something ha has not been debated since the height of the cold war. after hiroshima and nagasaki. right now, if the president decides to launch a strike, he could consult with civilian and militaried a risy advisers. but ultimately, these minutemen would have to follow the president's orders, launching within minutes. today's heari ining comes as th u.s. faces a growing threat from north korea. with the latest estimates predicting a missile launch from kim jong-un could reach the u.s. in 30 to 40 minutes. >> north korea best not make anymore threats to the united states. >> reporter: that stark reality has not toned down mr. trump's red r rhetoric. >> they will be met with fire and fuhryry like the world has never seen. >> reporter: president trump lashing out at kim jung un. >> i worry at the answers to the nuclear code. there's little to stop him. >> reporter: as for those who believe trump's generals could overrule the president, the law says they could not. and this is an i congress has not addressed for decades. but is suddenly front and center, as tensions rise between president trump and an untested leader of north re andrea mitch. iran has ended rescue operations in areas hit by sunday's powerful earthquake. 430 people were killed 7,000 injured in the 7.3 quake along the iran/iraq border. 70,000 residents are homeless. iran's president has promised to rebuild as soon as possible. a new video in the penn state case. stephanie gosk is on the penn state campus. what can you tell us? trying to figure out what it is. then, it stopped. all right. they must have got it fixed. then, i continued to do my thing. and it happened again and lasted longer the second time. then, i was actually getting aggravated. i looked over at my monitor guy at the side of the stage to say, what is that? and fix it. and so, when i turned to look, my guitar player had run behind me and was telling me to move, like, let's go. and my security guy was on stage telling me to run. >> reporter: aldean and everyone with him, escaped unharmed. but steven paddock firing from his hotel room, injuri killing people and injuring hundreds before taking his own life. >> i think everybody kind of panicked and didn't know where to go or what to do. we're not in that situation. i've never been in that situation before. you know, and obviously nobody else out there had, either. it was crazy. pandemonium. >> reporter: lady antebellum's charles kelley reached out right away. >> we're texting aldean. and he's texting us back, saying it's the scariest moment. i never told him i loved him before. i love you, buddy. so glad you're safe. >> reporter: aldean says the week following the shooting was incredibly difficult. >> we didn't have a lot of time to process it because we went straight from that to, you know, doing -- we went -- flew back home and wanted to see my daughters and my family. >> reporter: after spending time with his family and appearing on "saturday night live," aldean returned to las vegas to visit his injured fans. dierks bentley went there, too. >> all of us have connection to las vegas and to jason. >> reporter: they all say they share a commitment to showing up for their fans. >> being on stage helped us more than anything. >> reporter: do you think about that when you're on the stage or say we have to move forward? >> we're in that situation in a weekly basis. we're not going to live in fear. >> reporter: there was a post after vegas. you said, at the end of the day, we're not democrats or republicans, whites or blacks, men or women, we are all humans, all americans. >> at the end of the day there's so much focus on politics and race and all these other things -- at tend of the day, we're in this together. we spend so much time arguing with each other and another enough working on the issue. >> reporter: aldean and his comrades hope that standing together can help others do the same. >> music is such an escape and a therapeutic and healing thing. ♪ >> reporter: anything else you want to get out there to your fans? is following the story for us. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. r roy moore is as defiant as ever, saying the allegations are completely false and he doesn't know the woman. beverly young nelson, then 16, says moore was a regular customer at the restaurant where she worked. some 40 years ago, she claims that one night he took her in his car behind the business and assaulted her. >> at some point he gave up. and then looked at me. and he told me, he said, you're just a child. and he said, i am the district attorney. and if you tell anyone about this, no one will ever believe you. >> reporter: moore is denying the latest allegations as well as those in "the washington post," involving sexual misconduct with a 14-year-old girl. and he allegedly pursued three other girls who were teenagers while he was in his 30s. there's growing calls on capitol hill for moore to drop out of this race. instead, in a fund-raising e-mail, it's not he that should quick, but mitch mcconnell. police are investigating a deadly shooting in the same neighborhood where three other unsolved murders took place in a ten-day span last month. the body of an adult male was found in seminole heights. three other people were shot and killed there in october. the killer has not been caught. last month, police released a video of a person of interesting that was recorded running from the scene of the first murder. those deaths happened within a mile of one another. this morning, there are new guidelines to tell you about for what's considered to be high blood pressure. dr. mehmet oz is the host of "the dr. oz show." the numbers have changed. yesterday, i may not have had high blood pressure and today, i do. >> i was caught that 140 over 90 meant you have high mroblood pressure. that's what we told our patients. the major heart associations got together and said that number isn't good enough. the new guideline, 130/80. here's why they made a difference. 140/90, to the new number, 130/80. there's a big observation. the chance of you having a heart attack or stroke, are double at 130/80, as compared to the optimal blood pressure, 120/80. >> that's startling. are you encouraging people that have high blood pressure to take medications with their doctor? >> i'll say this fervently, as well. that's not the game plan. the game plan is realize that lifestyle changes is the primary way to go. all those factors that all matters. but this is critical to understand. half of americans, now, roughly, will fit into the high blood pressure category. that's an issue. the number one reason we die is high blood pressure. let's focus on a problem. especially younger people. >> why younger people? you said they would be affected the most. >> they start off with blood pressure that's borderline. and the benefits of getting ahead of this in young people are astronomical. the plaque and the damage to the arteries starts with young edge. they are big opportunities if we pay attention to lifestyle shifts. many americans can do what they're doing in their home. that's how you win the battle for health. >> when you say young people, you mean mid-40s. >> younger than us. >> i get to how old is he? >> daniel, now, is almost 20. when we had him diagnosed, he was 1 years old. he was one of the people what had autism, who seemed like everything was on track, and had a regression. you hear that story often. >> what is interesting about this charity, it's not necessarily for research. it's about services and helping people live better lives. >> it's about programs, do scientific research or they doed a voe aid va cosey. robert and i who had connection and resources, couldn't find our son a school. an appropriate education for our son. we didn't want that to happen anymore. we indoctrinated our friends. >> robert and michelle have daniel. and there's no real schools in the city. so, they start, you know, to advocate for your own child is, i think every parent has that feeling to advocate for their own child. the walls they had to break through, with the connection they had and the finance they had. for them to say, we're going to advocate for other children, and to spread that out is what i think is so incredibly special about what they did. everything they do, the school they started wasn't appropriate for him. they worked on other services and other interventions. >> is this a tricky audience for you? you're one of the best political commentators and comedians out there. but the people that might want to donate to a charity like this are liberal and conservative. do you have to take your material down the middle for something like this? >> i think that the night -- the way the night has always gone is not so much political. the idea is to play with the auspices of a charity. because there's auctions. there's chris rock that will bra break up with your boyfriend or girlfriend for you over the phone. >> that's priceless. >> it's not a standup show, per se. there will be standups on it. my job there is not to irritate people. >> more of a game show host than a standup comedian? >> that's why we got game show host chairs. there's a pictionary set over there. >> often with autism, it's about little kids and finding the right school. and now, your son is a young man. there has to be focus on being an adult with autism. >> there has to be a large focus on it. in ten years, 500,000 individuals with autism will become adults. so many of them will be living with their families witho services. honestly, when education stops for them, at age 21 or 22, the services stop, but they continue to live. they have full lives. and it's very important that individuals with autism are considered to -- are able to live fulfilling lives. >> and there's daniel's situations. and others. everybody thinks of it like, it's like the good doctor. you have to find a way to get an individual with autism into the right field where they have, you know, savant abilities. but you know, 30% are in a very different category that might need a more intensive intervention or may need services that are more intensive. it ee's a lot. >> someone like daniel is severe. he has no language. he has a lot of self-abusive behavior. with the right services we've been able to find him, he's achieved quite a bit. and everyone deserves a fulfilling life to be able to work and be part of a community and not isolated. >> michelle is going to hate this. they showed me a video. you do, you think of a triumph as a recitarecital, something l that, that kids are judged by. they showed me a video of daniel, completing a race. just completing a race. and the look on his face when it was over, the smile that he gave, it was a majestic moment. >> i need to, while you're here, ask for your comment on something quickly. your friend and colleague, louis c.k., has been accused and admitted to lewd acts in front of women. what was it when you heard the accusations? >> stunned, i think. you give your friends the benefit of the doubt. i try to think of it in terms of, i've had friends who have compulsions and have done things gambling, drinking or drugs. and we lost some of them. some of them have died. and you find yourself at a moment of, did i miss something? could i have done more? in this situation, we all could have. you feel anger on what he did to people. comedy on its best day is not a good environment for women. but when we started 30 years ago, it was really difficult. to do it was an act of bravery in itself. the idea there was an added layer of pressure and manipulation and fear and humiliation, and not -- look. i don't want to make this like, louis was the only one in the business. it's not. it's endemic. and i imagine you walk through 30 rock. and think it's a question, we're used to being in charge. and i think if you talk to women, they're in a very difficult position. and you get mad at yourself, too, for laughing it off or mfo thinking, that didn't happen. >> that was my question. some women in the industry say, this is an open secret. >> right. >> but in this case, you said you were stunned. >> i was stunned. >> you hadn't heard that? >> i heard -- a career ago, i was doing a podcast with david axelrod. and a man in the audience asked me about it. and i hadn't heard of any of it. so, i was -- he said, what do you think about the allegations against louis c.k. and my first response was, what? joke, joke. as he kept going, i know this is serious. i know louis. he's always been a gentleman, to me. it speaks to the blindness that a man has. hey, he's a good guy. what are you talking about? digging around in it and finding that some people had done, it was hard. but we were all assured, no. but we took somebody's word for it. and maybe that's -- that's an error on our part. with drugs, we've tried interventions and maybe that's something that -- >> have you talked to louis c.k.? (announcer) 240 pages, 5 albums, and hundreds of never-before-seen photos. available now at sam's club. and honey, there's some things in here that i don't think i would've told. 8:43. we welcome you back. suzanne somers is an actress, a singer, an author and health advocate. >> but the latest focuses on her most personal role. >> i sure did. we talked with suzanne somers to talk about her new book, "two's company." it's a candid look at her long career, and the love affair she says gets better every day. >> every morning, i wake up, he says, you're so beautiful. it doesn't matter if i am. if you have somebody that's looking at you that says, you're so beautiful. okay. that's nice. >> reporter: suzanne somers is talking about allen hamil, her partner for the last 50 years and husband for the last 40. at 81 years old, he's also still her business manager. you decided to form a partnership, a business, as well as a love partnership. was that ever hard? >> never. never. when you're married to your partner. it's like a figure 8. it never begins. it never ends. he had a huge television career in canada. he had a late night talk show and he gave it up when my career took off. >> "three's company" was a high in your life. but then, was the low. >> i had the highest demographics of women on television at that time. but the men were making 10-times to 15-times more than me on lesser series. and it wasn't so much feminism, really, jenna, i think you should be paid in life, commensurate with the amount of tickets you sell. >> reporter: suzanne remembers the day alan had come home, after he asked "three's company" executives to up her paycheck. >> i was on stun. i loved being chrissy snow. i loved being on that show. it was just an emotion al blow. and he took me by the shoulders and said, we're going to make this work for us. >> reporter: they moved on to stints in vegas, a 17-year run on the home shopping network, and the thigh master. >> when you squeeze thighmaster, you strengthen and tone where you need it. >> do you still use the thi thighmaster? >> i have consistently used it. i don't have jiggle. it's like great. my legs should be falling apart at this point and they're not. >> reporter: suzanne and allen spend a lot of time here at their home in palm springs, a private oasis where they unwind with family and do private things. >> i'm crazy about my wife. i'm honest about this. there's something about it. and it goes well beyond the physical thing. you're going to read about it in the book. >> reporter: that's right, suzanne compares few details. you write a lot about your love, which includes sex. and i have to say, i blushed a little bit. >> there's a lot of sex. >> reporter: there's a lot. >> i told my kids, there's a lot of sex in this book, so, don't read it. that means they're going to read it. >> reporter: they're going to blush like i did. suzanne grew up with little money and even less confidence. sh h her son, bruce, whenrs old. they both say it was getting through the tough times together that strengthened their bond. when was the last time you spent a night apart?
