you'll see sunshine. that will warm us into the 90s this afternoon. we'll look at the weekend forecast when i'm back in ten minutes. right new, katy zachry has your first alert traffic. >> that's right. bill. for drivers on 95 southbound approaching cottman avenue there's still a disabled vehicle you're going to have to slow for. on our map in the red approaching this scene, drivers are slowing considerably, once you get around it, you should be fine. near cottman avenue there's a lane restriction. the drive times on 76 westbound between the vine and the blue route, it will take you 12 minutes to go that stretch. moving into new jersey, taking a look at 295 at route 70, this is in cherry hill. no accidents. everything running smoothly. things are looking good in new jersey as they have been in delaware. the area bridges, the ben,ç th bet betsy, the tacony palmyra, the commodore barry, all looking good. today, a judge decides if this philadelphia woman will stand trial for the attempted murder of her quadriplegic son. police say in april, nihayah parlor left her son lying in the woods in cobbs creek park. the disabled man survived days without food and water, exposed to rain and cold water. to the latest on a triple shooting in philadelphia. it happened on north 2nd street in olney just after 10:00 p.m. police say a gunman got out of a gray dodge charger, hitting two men and a women off he opened fire. it's not clear if any of them were the intended target. >> a 12-year-old girl is missing and philadelphia police asking for your help to find here. myasia mcfarland's family reported her missing yesterday afternoon, last seen walking behind her home on east miln street in germantown. she suffers from bipolar disorder. if you think you may have seen her, call police. police in lower makefield have the ability to record, store and manage all video and audio encounters with the public. other members of local law enforcement is expected to attend today's demonstration. 6:03 now. we've learned that the pilot of that hot air balloon that crashed in lancaster county over the weekend injuring two passengers is from chester county. the balloon hit power lines as it was landing saturday in earl township about 50 miles west of philadelphia. one of the passengers is in critical condition. the pilot from honey brook and the other passenger are stable. alcohol may have played a role in this boat crash last night in monmouth county. ologic crews rescued two men and a woman on a fishing boat that hit a jedi. police arrested the operator of the boat. 6:04. school's right around the corner. teachers are trying to get supplies for the entire class as pell. teachers are crowd funding to get those supplies. nbc 10's matt delucia is live in lawndale. exactly -- explain to people who don't know what crowd funding is. >> well, tracy, you've got to think about it, pencils, crayons, paper, it all adds up. a lot of the teachers are paying for it out of their own pockets. now they're returning to other people within complete strangers and technology to help them fund their classrooms. >> i thought i have to hop on board and do it. >> reporter: in a few weeks, jane quigley will start her 25th year as a second grade teacher. >> i keep markers, crayons, pencils. >> reporter: that quickly adds up. >> all summer long we look for bargains. wherever we find a sale, we stop in, show our teacher i.d., try to get a discount. she now wants ipads for her classroom. she turned to the internet and the kindness of strangers. >> i thought what do i have to lose? >> on the schuylkill east and westbound around belmont avenue, there are cones here. we had construction that was sticking around for much of the morning, especially in the westbound lane. that has lifted. eastbound heading into center city philadelphia, looking great. westbound as you make the exit out of the city, things are looking great as well. it will only take you the blue route to the vine. we are following a disabled vehicle around 935 southbound. from the cameras i can see drivers are slowing up considerably as they head into this scene because there is a lane restriction. once you get around it, you should be good. wul find slowup on 95 southbound as you approach girard. many people are excited to see the pope when he visits philadelphia. what will the pope see? that cars are the pope from new york will land here at atlantic aviation near philadelphia international and leave from here as well. john butterworth has been the general manager here for almost 30 years and this is the same terminal that services all of philadelphia's major sports teams. >> we handle the eagles, sixers, phillies, flyers. >> on any given day we'll get between 30 and 40 arrivals. this will be 100-fold what we're accustomed to. that entire week is going to be a free for all. >> reporter: the last thing the pontiff will do is meet with about 500 volunteers and vips in this hangar at atlantic aviation before he heads back to rome. this cavernous hangar can store up to six or seven leer jets at a time. but don't plan to crash this party. the road in or out of the small airport will be closed most of the weekend that the pope is in town. in south philadelphia, i'm vai sikahema, nbc 10. >> that airport may be the first and last stop for the pope in philadelphia. in been up for 20 minutes now. bright sunshine and 70s will warm into the 90s this afternoon for the third day in a row. we've got a heat wave. 60s to start with for pottstown and doylestown, millville at 68 degrees. down to 71 right now in roxborough. the numbers will quickly around around with sunshine, 76 degrees at 8:00. by 11:00, middle 80s and then it's into the 90s this afternoon. and through the day, just enough of a southwesterly breeze to bring the humidity levels up. your neighborhood by neighborhood forecast to show you how warm it will get where you live when i'm back in ten minutes. right now it's time for a look at first alert traffic with katy zachry. >> good morning, bill. right at 6:30, we are seeing increased volume on 76, eastbound headed into center city philadelphia. that is this area right here. you can see the three lanes. traffic is picking up a little bit. there are no major delays on 76. unfortunately, if you're traveling on 59 southbound, you will find major delays. red is extending pretty much on the map. 95 southbound as you approach cottman avenue. there's a disabled tractor-trailer. it's been out there for about an hour. there's a lane restriction. crews are out there forcing you to get to the center or left-hand lane around that. as you saw from our map, it really is kcausing delays. disregard the two icons on the screen. this is to let you know there's construction going on on 422 westbound and it's backing things up. montgomery county, 422 westbound between green road and arm and hammer boulevard. 6:31. happening later this morning, the camden diocese announces its plans as it prepares for the arrival of pope francis to our region. nbc 10's jesse gary is live along the camden water front with more on the plan and the push to engage parishioners. tell us more. bishop dennis sullivan will award eight families to tickets to theç world meeting of families. these are families the bishop calls needy families, the kind he wants his parishioners to learn more about in an effort to help them. this is a time frame leading up to the pope's arrival in the region on september 26th. the bishop wants south jersey residents to prepare by learning more about the needs of the less fortunate in six south jersey counties, including camden. the county wide problem is worst in camden city. the poverty rate is 35% compared to 28% in the county. there's been a newly created metro police force that have signaled improvement. he'll talk about how lay persons can connect with catholic charities to help. he'll announce the families that will get the tickets. we'll have updates on our mobile app and, of course, online. if you're planning on taking new jersey transit during the pope's visit, there are still rail passes available. those pais passes went on sale on saturday. you might want to get there sooner rather than later. no tickets will be sold the weekend the pope is here. there are a lot of transportation changes for pope's itinerary. 6:33. a philadelphia man faces several charges in connection with the hit and run that injured a 6-year-old girl over the weekend. marc edwards was driving the car that hit the girl saturday on sylvester street in the northeast, police say. the little girl is in stable condition being treated for broken bones. 6:33. this morning, people around the country are remembering a civil rights leader with ties to our area. julian bond died over the weekend. he graduated from the george school in bucks county in 1957. his father was the first african-american president of lincoln university in chester county. bond was a key figure in the civil rights movement in the 1960s. he went on to serve ten years as chairman of the naacp. he was 75 years old. 6:34. today several law enforcement agencies will target drivers on a dangerous stretch of road in ocean county. officers in marked and unmarked cars will crack down on aggressive drivers on county route 539 in ocean county. from january 2013 to may of this year, there were nearly 300 crashes, including 11 deadly ones on 539. in ocean county, the owners of an amusement pier destroyed by hurricane sandy can rebuild. state environmental officials approved the permit last week. they plan to rebuild the sky ride cable car attraction. that same pier in seaside heights is where a roller coaster plunged into the ocean when sandy hit in 2012. thousands packed the beach in atlantic city to watch maroon 5 and nick jonas. ♪ >> first of two concerts on the beach this week. biggest challenge was staying cool during the intense heat with temperatures soaring close to 90. water was in high demand. a few people were cared for by emergency workers but most kept cool and hydrated. organizers say managing the huge crowd takes a lot of coordinati coordination. >> listen to instruction, they drink water, make sure we have water stations, hydration stations. >> the second concert where rascal flatts will play with opening act ashley monroe happens on thursday. >> another thing that drew a huge crowd yesterday in the heat, the eagles. and eagles fans have a lot to talk about, positive things to talk about after a strong showing by the birds in their first preseason game yesterday. a live look at the linc from our new camera in the eagles nest. it was a happy crowd that left that stadium yesterday afternoon. the eagles spread their wrings for the preseason opener against the colts yesterday. 36-10, the birds win it. fans really liked what they saw at the linc. the birds scored early and often. and of their key players were not playing. mark sanchez got the start. nelson agholor taking it 34 yards for the score. kenyan barner trying to make the team, this on a punt return, making guys miss. 92 yards he went. birds up 23-3 at halftime. then the show that a lot of people came to see here, in the second half, it was tebow time. and tim tebow calling his own number, running in seven yards for the score in the fourth quarter. no, he did not do the tebow pose there. maybe that will come later. he got a huge ovation when he took the field. >> when you get support it always feels good. i we knew it wouldn't. there was an alert for tailgaters urging them to stay cool and safe. swoop with hot dance moves there. emergency officials say there were no heat-related emergencies during the eagles game. that's great for a crowd of that size. next saturday, another big crowd will be on the field, hopefully under cooler weather. eagles taking on the ravens in the second preseason game. nbc direction. so is the humidity. it's on the rise, making for a very muggy morning this morning and a hot afternoon. day three in the 90s. we have a heat wave. the normal high temperature is 85 degrees. we'll be in the 90s today. it won't cool down until we get later in the week when showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast. we could see heavy rainfall. no sign of any rainfall. a few thin clouds in reading, 71 degrees. philadelphia 74. cape may right now, that's the cool spots. it will be near 90 on the beach this afternoon. the sunshine is already nice and bright. you can see the beach is clear at this hour. that crowd is going to be growing in a hurry. satellite imagery, no sign of any cloudsy of shore. sunny skies through the entire area today. it will be a quick warmup. like the last couple days, only a bit hotter. 87 in the pocono mountains, 94 for allentown and quakertown and reading, into the low 90s. plenty of sunshine for doylestown, trenton, mt. holly. the humidity climbing along with the temperatures-for-those locations. at the shore, 88 agrees for cape may. not quite as hot for atlantic city and rehoboth. but inland, that's where you'll find the 90s for vineland and dovmr!and plenty of sunshine for westchester and wilmington, high of 91 degrees this afternoon. but hotter for drexel hill and philadelphia, up to 94 degrees. >> the weekend preview, there indeed, cooler saturday. 86 the high temperature. by the time the ravens and the eagles take the field, it will be coming down, the temperatures, and the humidity will be lower saturday and send. sunday, just a bit warmer, sunny skies, up to 87 degrees. we'll get rainfall before the weekend. the seven-day forecast with the timing when i'm brack in ten. usually we start to see buildup on right lane and right shoulder. again, another issue on 95. drivers on 95 are not happy at this time. route 22 westbound moving into montgomery county, there are lane restrictions between evergreen and trump is seated on a jury. in an exclusive one-on-one with "meet the press" moderator chuck todd, trump said he wants to end birth right citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants. >> we have 6:45. u.s. army parachutist died after being injured in chicago air and water show over the weekend. it was a horrifying scene for the people there. two parachutists collided midair. one of them was captured hitting a build iing. the man who murdered morgan freeman's step granddaughter was screaming about demons as he stabbed her. e'dena hines was stabbed 16 times. police say they did take a man into custody and he was in a relationship with hines. police have not filed any charges yet. investigators say the killer was yelling bible verse as he stabbed her. new this morning, we're hearing from a witness who heard the same thing. >> get out, devils, i cast you out, devils, in the name of jesus christ i ask you out. >> hines just landed a role in an independent film. morgan freeman saying, quote, the world will never know her artistry and talent and how much she had to çoffer." 6:46. wildfires continue to rage in idaho, washington and california. it only took a few minutes yesterday for this wildfire to double in size from 100 to 200 acres. there are no reports of anyone hurt or on what started this fire. meantime in washington state, a small resort town is surrounded by a wildfire. fire crews are trying to keep the flames away from dozens of homes. the national guard was called in to make water drops after thousands were forced to evacuate. this fire destroyed between 50 and 100 homes and building. rescue crews continue to scour the site in tianjin, china. 95 people, including 85 firefighters are still missing. crews will try to find people who may be trapped in a residential building near the blast site. a scorching heat wave in egypt has killed at least 93 people. temperatures in southern egypt soared to 114 degrees this past week. no relief in sight there. workers at an ice factory say demand has been especially high. the head of emergency services says most of the people who died were elderly. he blames the death on xaushs and not drinking enough water. os per pistorius is expected to be released from a south african prison on friday after serving ten months for shooting his girlfriend to death. a judge sentenced pistorius to five years in prison for killing his girlfriend, reeva steenkamp in 2013. pistorius says he thought she was an intruder. he's expected to be released under what's call correcti iviv supervision in south africa something for everybody. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 11 minutes before 7:00. weave got sunshine and hazy, humid conditions to start things off. this is a live view of the sun coming up this morning. the view from the loews hotel. we'll see plenty of sunshine. 74, that's to start with. we'll be in the 90s for the third day in a row. we have a heat wave and more humidity. it's at 82%. air quality coming down, it is a code orange, just like over the weekend. here's something that most areas are not seeing this morning. pocono mountains, some spots of fog. this is blue mountain in the pocono mountains. the temperatures climb within the fog will disappear, really a few spots dealing with it. could slow things down there. but other than that, pretty quiet. humidity's on the rise. radar is clear. we've seen no showers in the forecast for today. this çweek, especially later o this week, a couple showers moving through the midwest. that's one, that's another. that's the one that could bring us much-needed rainfall and will bring the teaches down later in the week, come thursday and friday. by wednesday night it's moving into western pennsylvania. that will set the stage for us on thursday, into friday. until then, we're looking at steamy conditions today. we'll warm back into the 90s, hotter than yesterday and more humid, too. lots of sunshine, the southwesterly winds won't be strong but just enough of a breeze to bring in the additional humidity. it turns steamier tomorrow. 92 degrees. it will be muggier. 2 will feel about the same. 71 in the morning. a little bit of a break in the temperature department. still steamy with a chance of isolated showers, especially west of the city. it's thursday that we'll see the heavier rain arrive in the afternoon and evening and continue into friday. that will keep temperatures lower for thursday and friday. by the weekend we'll be drawing out and with 60s saturday and sunday mornings, the humidity coming down, then partly sunny skies for both days into the 80s in the afternoon. >> thanks for that. nine minutes before 7:00. traffic is really building on the schuylkill expressway. >> yes, hopefully your air conditioning working well in the car this morning. >> nbc 10's first alert traffic reporter katy zachry will show us where the problem spot is on 76. >> it will be a hot commute, that's for sure. i'm seeing on 76 and i'm actually seeing the delay unfortunately. seeing much of the delay on 76 westbound, headed out of the city. we're not seeing the camera. we'll move on to our next slide here. it will take you 18 minutes to go westbound between the vine and the blue route. only about 15 minutes if you're headed into center city eastbound. that's good news for drivers headed eastbound on 76. we are seeing some delay around cottman avenue for drivers on 95 southbound. there's a disabled vehicle still out there. there's a lane restriction forcing you to get into the center or left-hand lane. it's really causing slowup as you can see from the red on our map around that. it will take you 25 minutes to go between woodhaven and the vine on 95 southbound. on 422 westbound there's construction that's seriously delaying things between evergreen and arm and hammer boulevard. expect a lane restriction there. i'm jesse gary live in camden. it right around girard avenue. you can see from our camera shot here, building considerably. we're not just seeing typical volume"tq builds around this time that's delaying things on 95 southbound, there is a disabled vehicle, tractor-trailer in the right-hand lane, blocking things. so traffic is forced to move around it to the center and left-hand lane. that's delaying things considerably on your drive of 95 southbound headed into center city philadelphia. >> moving into montgomery county along 422 westbound, drivers there are experiencing delays between evergreen road and arm and hammer boulevard because of construction. there's a lane restriction. again, be aware of that if you're traveling on 422 westbound. moving into delaware for drivers in delaware on 95, traveling between 295 and 495, things are looking really good. it will take you ten minutes to go that stretch in both directions. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> just before 7:00, the sun is up. hazy sunshine and this view from the loews hotel, looking past the comcast center. 73 degrees here at nbc 10. that's as cool as it will get. we're running warmer than yesterday by 5 degrees in wilmington. it's up two in trenton and pottstown. they'll maintain that adegsal warmth during the day today. temperatures will be higher. wind is calm for most of the area. what wind we do have is a southwesterly flow, delivering additional humidity in case you didn't have enough over the weekend. it's on the rise. 74 degrees in philadelphia. still seeing 60s but they're disappearing at the shore. north wildwood, cape may harbor. inland is at 64 degrees. up the coast, sea isle city is at 71 degrees. those temperatures along the coast. right on the beach will be in the upper 80s today. inland we're headed for
