a nice day of weather around the area for the day today. temperatures are starting out in the 70s this morning. across the area, temperatures will be around the mid-60s and low 60s up to the north and west and plenty of sunshine will be coming your way. 70 right now. across the area, temperatures around the five boroughs have been 780, 68 up to the north and west. temperatures will feel great as we go into the afternoon. we will talk about the weekend coming up in the seven-day forecast. weather then heather every seven minutes. how is your day going. >> my day is great. i have been up two hours. problems with r trains because of fast track. no service between 95th and 36th in brooklyn and that is because of fast track. long island railroad, metro north doing okay. new jersey transit on or close. if you are heading to the staten island expressway east south avenue into victory boulevard, two lanes are closed down with construction. b.q.e. northbound the ramp to the brooklyn bridge is closed down. the brooklyn bridge is closed into manhattan. alternate side of the street parking in effect. lori and ken, over to you. >> we are following a developing story this morning in new jersey where a search effort is underway for a missing swimmer. >> a young man vanished swimming last night in the water off sandy hook beach. eyewitness news reporter rob nelson is there with the latest for us. rob? >> reporter: good morning, lori. later today the search will continue for this missing man his family and authorities are holding out hope that he can be found alive. this is from late last night as the search got underway. the search began at beach b in sandy hook. officials were searching the waters off sandy hook. divers were still in the water. he was swimming with his family a few hours earlier when he suddenly went under. beachgoers saw people in the water struggling. they alerted authorities. that lead to an all out search that included officials from multiple agencies combing the water in search of any sign of the missing man. this beach, beach b does not have a life guard. that did not help in the situation. other beaches have a life guard but are typically off duty around 6:00 p.m., 90 minutes before this happened. several off duty lifeguards helped with the search in addition to monmouth won county initials and fdny and nypd as well. again, the search is expected to continue about 90 minutes from now, when the sun is up at 6:00 a.m. but at this point it's looking more like a recovery mission instead of a rescue. reporting live in sandy hook, rob nelson, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> rob, thank you. right now problems remain after massive construction crane collapsed in new jersey. several communities are under a boil water advisory. >> kala rama is live with that story. >> reporter: ken, good morning. 36 customers this morning don't have water. thousands of others have pressure problems and that is all because of this work. it will continue for a little while. to get here, you can see that they are digging. they have the backhoe out. at least the work started. to have the work start they had to move the huge crane. they brought in another crane just to move the crane. it was moved hours earlier this morning and it took hours to get it done. authorities are investigating what caused the incident and whether the crane was too heavy for the road. it is 600,000 pounds and it was brought in to build cliffside park town center. crews were trying to repair a censor yesterday morning. when they raised the boom, that weight shifted and crushed the water main. at first 200 homes and businesses had no water then thousands of others had low water pressure. >> water come that way, here then that way. we try everything. >> reporter: as you can see back out here live that work has begun. it will likely last the next few hours to get things back in order. in the meantime, a precautionary boil water advisory is being advised for cliffside park, fort lee and anything letter wood -- englewood cliffs. kala news. >> thank you. police try to catch four suspects behind a violent robbery in the bronx. take a look at this photo. police say they forced a man into a south bronx apartment monday night, putting him on his knees and holding a gun to his head. one suspect sexually abused a woman taking a shower in the apartment. the man who attacked moviegoers in a tennessee movie theater was a paranoid schizophrenic committed four times. the attack ended in a barrage of police bullets. police say that vicente montana wore a surgical mask. he fired at one officer then tried to escape the theater through a backdoor. >> metro police officers at the back of the theater of this mad max theater engaged limb. he was shot and fatally wounded and pronounced deceased at the scene. >> a theater attack in louisiana killed 2 and wounded 9. the legionnaires outbreak in the south bronx is responsible for eight deaths. there are now 97 confirmed cases. work to disinfect cooling towers that lead to the outbreak is complete. five buildings tested positive for legionella, the bacteria that causes the disease including cooling towers at the opera house hotel. chlorine is one of the ingredients used to clean them. >> we put an alkaline detergent to clean for the debris and presence of bio film. that allows of the organism. >> work is complete at all five locations where legionella was detected. an nypd sergeant charged with rape. the victim a teenage girl. a 43-year-old man, joel doseau, is accused of having an ongoing sexual relationship with the girl that he met when she was 15. in new jersey another law enforcement officer is accused of having improper relationship with two teenage girls. eric reamy is charged with having illicit online conversations whom he was investigating or supervising. he apparently sent nude photos of himself to one of them. a family of a harlem man who died after spending two decades in prison for crimes he did not commit is sue ing the city. sharrif wilson spent 21 years behind bars. he was exxon nor rated february in last year. he died in january from health problems developed while he was in prison. the family plans to show new evidence of police misconduct in the case. meanwhile, life ising getting back to normal on long island. pse&g expects electricity to be restored tomorrow for all the customers that lost power die to tuesday's storm. 3500 customers remain without power. you are never more than seven minutes away from weather and out what caused the malaysia flight 370 to crash after determining a washed ashore wing fragment belongs to the missing plane. >> enormous typhoon is heading to taiwan after already forcing hundreds of people from their homes. "many patients and their doctors unfortunately are not aware of the options available to patients with bone cancer. patients with bone cancer deserve a specialist too. good start to this day. a day in which we will see fair amount of sunshine and mixed in with clouds and a light wind that is out of the northwest today. that will feel good across the area throughout this morning and into the afternoon. so, we will take a look at temperatures around the area this morning. as we start the day, looking at 70 around the bark. 70 laguardia. 62 westchester county up to white plains and around rockland county. into the day, we will start out with 70 at montauk. 52 monticello. 55 poughkeepsie and 53 to 55 north and west. it feels great because we have a northwest wind and we also have low humidity. for the afternoon, we are looking at the low 80s around the area. maybe even mid-80s around parts of the area. a few more clouds come in today. what happens is a storm system comes in that will stay to the south. we are on the edges of that. we will get clouds this evening and tonight across the area. there will be a low rip current risk at the beaches. one thing to note, the system goes by to the east. it will intensify. big swells and rough surf coming up for the weekend. a lot of sunshine. it will be around 85 degrees and we will look at a really nice day tomorrow. nicer to the north. we will look at this low pressure system pulling down dry air. a mixture of sun and clouds and the low sliding eastward across the area with plenty of sunshine. we will look at temperatures in the mid-80s. a few clouds, comfy. overnight 67. it will be seasonally warm tomorrow. 83, 85. friday a great start to the weekend which will be rather quiet except you go to, you know, montauk, south shore of long island, jersey shore, you will see the swells and notice something going on out there. there is a storm out in the atlantic. the surfers will be surfing and folks will take their lawn chairs and sit on the beach and watch so will ems. >> heaven forbid. >> sandy will be at the shore chuckling at them. >> how is sandy. >> we are talking about my dog. she is great. >> you mean your person sandy? >> well, you know, she was never raised as a dog. when you sit at the dinner table with one of the children. >> with a fork and knife. >> heather, how are things parking rules in effect. ken, over to you. >> thank you. the australian government will continue to lead search efforts 2500 miles away from where a fragment of missing malaysia airlines flight was found. french investigators determined the wing fragment that washed ashore was part of that particular missing 777. investigators will now use the piece of recovered debris to try to determine what caused the plane to crash. more than 40,000 people gathered in japan this morning to mark the 70th anniversary of the united states atomic bombing of hiroshima. the solemn ceremony was at peace memorial park. it's near the epicenter of the people. another bombing at nag gay zack can i three -- nagasaki three days later pushed japan to end world war ii. caroline kennedy was at the ceremony. in wisconsin, a candlelight vigil marks three years since the massacre at a sikh temple. a white supremist, also an army veteran, opened fire inside a temple south of milwaukee. six people were killed and four others wounded before the gunman killed himself. mystery surrounding a man behind a memorable voice who serenades passerbys on the streets of manhattan. he is missing. his family is searching would put on a show it's up to you, new york, new york >> now suitly russo is missing. >> it's not like gary. he has two daughters, a lot of friends and it doesn't make sense. he has performances still coming up. on july 28, about 1:15 in the morning russo left the home he shares with his sister-in-law. she heard him leaving. >> i looked out the window, he was gone. so, i text him. i said, gary, where are you going at 1:15 in the morning. he never answered me. >> reporter: no contact since then. five days later his car was found near brush off jamaica bay. but search dogs and search teams did not find there is that plane ticket his family found on his credit card statement. >> a delta charge for an airline for a flight that was $210 but it has a reference number or ticket number. >> reporter: russo told a friend recently that things weren't going well, he would like to jump on a plane, go to an island and never come back. who hasn't said that once or twice. if that is what happened, if that's what he did with that mysterious delta ticket, why not tell his own daughters and why all the drama. the police and his family sure would like to know the answers to those on a jury when he was called to serve yesterday in dallas. >> can you imagine the look on their faces. look there. the 43rd president had his picture taken with several other prospective jurors before secret service whisked him a way for a few hours. wildlife experts are keeping a close watch on a way ward dolphin who decided to leave the ocean for an adventure in new jersey. >> a mysterious av welcome back. officials with the marine mammals strand willing center are monitoring a wayward dolphin far from the ocean in new jersey. the dolphin swimming in old bridge is not considered to be stranded or in distress. it made for quite the scene on a bridge over the river where many gathered to take photos. >> >> i just saved a lot of money. who needs sea world. it's fun and magical. kids are loving it. >> the dolphin has been seen for the past couple of days. officials hope it swims back out to the ocean on its own and is healthy and happy and makes dolphin noises with it's friends. rules are in effect. authorities are looking for answers after a disturbing discovery. a child's gravestone found outside a new jersey transit bus garage. >> the grave marker is engraved with the name max ferrara. it was found monday in the parking lot of a bus garage in nutley during an annual cleanup. investigators are working with local cemeteries to figure out where it came from. >> the child would years old. i would imagine it was steve dating for the family to lose a child at that age. but to find out the grave was touched or desecrated would probably bring back a lot of those bad memories. >> absolutely. >> police are asking anybody that may recognize the name to give them a call so they can get it back where it belongs. closing in on 5:00. just ahead on "eyewitness news this in the next hour for a swimmer missing off the coast of new jersey. the 25-year-old man went missing after he had trouble last night off sandy hook beach. eyewitness news reporter rob nelson is live at the beach where the rescue efforts are on in about an hour to find the swimming. rob? >> an hour from now, 6:00 a.m. when the sun finally comes up, the search for that missing man will continue in the waters off sandy hook. at this point, officials and that man's family members have few options except to hold on to hope. this is video from last night. the search did continue until late last night. multiple agencies helping out including the national park service, coast guard, nypd, fdny and new jersey state police as well. the 25-year-old man was swimming with his family about 7:30 when he suddenly went under. people at the beach noticed folks struggling in the water. that's when they alerted authorities and an all out search began with off duty lifeguards and divers searching the water for the man from the sandy hook area. the area where this happened, known as beach b as in boy does not have a life guard on duty. that, of course, prompted a warning from officials to all beachgoers about the importance of safety. >> if there is any message to give to people, police swim where there are lifeguards. it's very important that people understand that going in to the water on an unguarded beach is recipe for disaster if they don't know what they are doing. >> this is actually the third time in just a few days, in the past week in fact that a swimmer had to be rescued from the national gateway recreational area. two swimmers were rescued in the queens area. they made it out okay and were taken to the hospital. at this hour it does not appear that this latest victim may be as lucky. reporting from sandy hook live, rob nelson, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> rob, thank you. new this morning, police are searching for the suspect accused of robbing a man at gunpoint in queens. reports say the man on this surveillance photo met up with the victim after agreeing to sell him a motorcycle. this is back in june. that's when police say the suspect got in the 5-year-old man's car and had him drive to a building in astoria. when they arrived, the suspect then threatened the man with a gun and demanded cash. he took off with $2,500. just hours before the first highly anticipated republican presidential debate, front- runner donald trump is facing new questions about his past ties to the democrats. bazi kanani joins us live with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, ken. in less than a year, republicans will crown their presidential nominee in cleveland, ohio. to get there, analysts believe that candidate will have to stand out at tonight's debate. the city of cleveland getting ready for the national spotlight. the largest crowd in republican debate history. 5,000 will gather at the quicken loans arena when the top ten candidates take on the issues and possibly each other. >> i don't want to attack but if i am attacked i have to do something back. i would like it to be very civil. >> reporter: donald trump says he will wing it, not rehearsing for the debate as the other nine candidates are including ben carson and mike huckabee seen in practice sessions. analysts say there are different rules for donald trump and others. >> if i were advising him, donald trump needs to be substantive and not overly clownish that some would expect but feel presidential. the other nine candidates, if i was advising one of the other nine candidates, they have to figure out though get oxygen in the race. that is all being consumed by donald trump. >> reporter: trump could face questions about his relationship with the clintons after a new report that weeks before he jumped in the race he talked about g.o.p. politics in a phone conversation with president bill clinton. jeb bush may be asked to explain a recent gave. >> i'm not sure -- gave. >> i'm not sure we need a half a billion dollars for women's health issues. >> reporter: the seven candidates that didn't make the debracelet will debate at a separate forum four hours earlier. hillary clinton said she won't be watching the debate because she will be traveling at the time. in washington, bass see kanani, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. stay with >> reporter: ken, this morning still 36 customers don't have water. thousands of others have low water pressure. look at this scene here. you can see the massive crane laying on anderson avenue, it's about a block long. at the end of the block is where the work begins. it's already continued this morning. to even start the work, they had to bring in another crane just to move the crane. it was moved earlier this morning. it took hours. authorities are investigating what caused the incident and whether the crane was too heavy for the road. it's about 600,000 pounds. it was brought in to build cliffside park center, a high- rise of residential and business space. crews are trying to repair a censor when they raised the boom and then the weight shifted and crushed the water main underneath. at first 200 homes and businesses have no water. thousands of others have been having low water pressure. >> water went that way, came here and then that way. nobody helps. i put up something to hold the water. we try everything. >> we are told this work will continue for the next few hours. meanwhile, the crane of course will lay here in the road for the next few hours. meanwhile, a precautionary water boil advisory is going on for three towns here in cliffside park, fort lee as well as englewood cliffs, the neighboring communities here. live in cliffside park, kala rama, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> kala, thank you. new this morning, we have images to show you of four suspects in a violent robbery in the bronx. here are the men police are trying to find. detectives say they forced a man into his south bronx apartment, put him on his knees and held a gun to his head. a woman who was in the shower came out to see what was happening. that's when one suspect grabbed that woman and sexually abused her. this happened monday evening. the suspects got away with money, a cell phone and a set of keys. an nypd sergeant charged this morning with raping a teenage girl. 43-year-old joel doseau is stationed in brooklyn south. he is accused of having an ongoing sexual relationship with a girl he met when she was just 15. in new jersey, officers arrested an officer accused of improper relationship with two girls. eric reamy allegedly had illicit online conversations with two girls when he was investigating or supervising and apparently sent of himself to one of them. he is charged with five counts of child endangerment. the legionnaires outbreak in the south bronx lead to eight deaths and the number of confirmed cases has grown to 97. cooling towers at the opera house hotel is one of the five buildings that tested positive for legionella, the bacteria that caused the disease. chlorine is one of the ingredients used to clean them. >> we put an alkaline detergent to clean for the presence of biofilm that allows the proliferation of the organize firm. >> work -- organism. >> work is completed in the five locations. the identification of debris found on an island in the indian ocean belongs to flight 370. french investigators determined the wing fragment that washed ashore on reunion island was part of the missing boeing 777. the aircraft disappeared more than a year ago. crews are currently combing the waters about 2500 miles away from reunion island. on long island, life is getting back to normal after destructive storms knocked out power to thousands of homes. pse&g long island expects electricity to be restored by tomorrow for all of its customers that lost power due to tuesday's powerful early morning storm. more than 3500 customers are still without power right now. you are never more than seven minutes away from weather and traffic and meteorologist bill evans with the exclusive accuweather forecast. >> here we go. we take a look from our camera on the roof. another pretty sunrise today. an absolute gorgeous start to what will be a nice string of weather days. that means many days in order, ken, where we will have sun and clouds and low humidities and very nice weather as we head into the weekend. here is our camera in astoria. that is roosevelt island. you can see to 59th street bridge, edward i. koch bridge. here is the socrates sculpture park. check out the sculptures there for the summer. temperature 69 degrees. light northwest wind. a few high clouds that will come across the area today from this storm system. this storm will stay to the south. but as it glides south and out into the atlantic, it will make for rough surf this weekend. 74 by the time we get to 10:00. noontime 76 to 78 and 83 this afternoon. some absolute beautiful weather, beautiful sunset coming up. we will talk about the weekend coming up.
