On Tuesday, Vrai Changement Montréal, the party started by one-time mayoral candidate Mélanie Joly, announced it was ceasing operation.

“I’m personally very proud of the work we accomplished over the years,” interim leader Justine McIntyre, a former city councillor in Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough, announced in a Facebook post. The party, which was created in 2013, allowed open internal debates, she wrote.
As the Montreal Gazette reported earlier this week, Vrai Changement Montréal had set Monday as the deadline for candidates to step forward to lead the party into the municipal election on Nov. 7. Although several potential candidates had expressed interest, McIntyre wrote, they didn’t follow through by the nomination deadline.
