Harris is meeting with Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) to talk about infrastructure and public transit systems.
The discussion will likely include the Brent Spence Bridge. The I-71/75 interstate bridge is a major north-south trade corridor with over a billion dollars' worth of freight crossing it daily.
There's a $2.6 billion plan to build a companion bridge to help carry that load, but it lacks funding. Local and state officials are hoping the project could get funding under President Biden's proposed American Jobs Plan.
That proposal would include $115 billion for roads and the "10 most economically significant bridges."
Mark Policinski heads the Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana Regional Council of Governments. He told WVXU shortly after the president's plan was released that "if the Brent Spence Bridge is not on that list, then it's a bad list. It's as simple as that."
