UNVEILED: How new flood channel will protect Lismore

FOUR years ago, water was overtopping the levee wall in Lismore in one of the town's worst flood events on record.
A new channel, which was officially opened on Wednesday, hoped to lessen the impact of similar major flooding in future.
Lismore City Council's $8.2 million South Lismore Flood Mitigation Project is now officially complete and has already passed the test of two floods.
Flood modelling suggests the project should reduce peak water levels in the CBD, North Lismore and South Lismore by as much as 100mm in a 1-in-100-year flood event.

The new South Lismore Flood Mitigation is complete and has been tested by minor flooding in the past few weeks.
