north carolina where we have again near the coastline more of a mix or rain for this evening a mic still around the region at five o'clock but by seven where rain and by nine rain and wind and look at the temperatures continuing to go up from thirty to forty two by nine pm that's that strong wind coming in off the ocean so it will warm things up it will really be gusty these numbers are for flurry of pictures for me to remember i contributed year it's passed act thirteen store modesto working on. ok i know the score that was in the parking lot. let's talk about the kids because they have fun in the snow. this is cooper loving the snow. he's got the right half stack there from our virginia beach is loving it and this is from the belmont apartments looking down at the fountain at city center newport news thank you ron davis and that is a beautiful part of hampton roads is the guys and newport news newport news represented today this post on mon again and as laura geller out the cold the meteorologist evan stewart to his doing his thing. ohh a thumbs up. we love the snow as long as it doesn't cause any problems but keep the pictures coming in because we love them guys we head into friday night and into the weekend we're going to head over to africa news chief meteorologist geoff lawson to let us know because he's analyzing the radar info for your right now jeff has gone south hopefully everybobo was able to get outta work early or if not again the roads are not horrible everywhere but they're pretty bad so make sure you take your time you can see a mix of precipitation across the region we are noticing a little bit of a changeover in spots still here across portions of chesapeake it snow but back here across parts of suffolk in a downpour gates county little bit more of a mix putting it all into motion. we've had again heavy precipitation come through at times and i mentioned earlier how the snowflakes will clump together into one giant snowflake and yet just massive amounts of these things popping quite literally onto the ground abroad about three quarters of an inch where i was half an inch to three quarters of an inch in virginia beach and as i drove and the closer i got to norfolk the more the roads were so right now the winds really picking up sustained at twenty six mph gusts right now up into the thirties they're going to get even stronger tonight freezing quite literally right at thirty two but tempers will go only up from here. eleven o'clock there was just grass showing their town point park by noon it was already starting to be covered with snow of course now remains the same thing to show you this this is the forecast through this evening we're already at this evening right but i'm so proud of this that i just want to go back again because this is what we've been saying for two days now maybe even three and this is almost perfect for what we've seen so far i'd talk more about how much more we're going to get in just a second but let's talk about some of the amounts right now with ie show over there in the weather lab yet women keep an eye on those amounts and definitely we want you to reach and reach out to us to give us more mounts a witch are saying out there at the area so here's what we have so far in the good news at this time out so far in some areas where we have seen and a half inches franklin a two point eight two point three inches and weight phil and we've seen an inch and a half and suffered a little bit our lower totals on the southside has over a half of an inch because again we sort of saw that i've not become as heavy on the south side as we did across central and northern portions of virginia will keep an eye on twitter and keep sending us those amounts will continue to update this board as we go throughout the show. jeff thanks a share right now temperatures as we said freezing in norfolk chesapeake doherty up to thirty six talk to evan down and sort of central chesapeake. he also said that he had about three quarters of an inch at the most and then it's gradually been melting down about half an inch. temperatures inland in the twenties you can see twenty seven at wakefield where the stuff some fairly heavy snow thirty one right now in portsmouth twenty eight up enhanced and say here comes that makes pretty rapidly changing over to just rain rain heavy at times through the night tonight western areas will still be a little bit of a mix by sort of mid to late evening and then almost everywhere to turn over at least one active in places like west point back down here west of wakefield. richmond is sorta on that dividing line but look where the storm is located early tomorrow morning we're not going to have a lot of precipitation tomorrow at least in the metro areas the farther north and west you go you'll get that mix that'll change over to some snow around the metro areas the later in the day we go the more of a mix we get and temperatures i think will be dropping back into the mid thirties and that'll give us some periods of snow tomorrow night i would see in general another one to three inches as we go tomorrow late today and tomorrow night. some of the northern western areas it's a williamsburg north you're going to have even some higher amounts than that because it'll change over much more quickly so we had a lot to go through with the storm also high tides that continues to run through talking about those earlier spot forecast for tomorrow the mid thirties by late afternoon after starting the new and spotless a forty five for the official temperature in the morning thirty five for an afternoon temperature twenty six saturday night with those periods of snow one to three inches for most areas and then by monday tuesday we start to warm up before another storm late next week that could bring us a bit of a mix again by thursday at the latest from the weather authority. i'd imagine being outside in this storm with nowhere to go ntuc was coming up next to janet is one woman's heart warming efforts to help homeless children and one you i drive a golf ball. i drive to the hoop. i drive a racecar. i have a driver. his name is carl. but that's not what we all have in common. we talked to our doctors about treatment with xarelto . xarelto is proven to treat and help reduce the risk of dvt and pe blood clots. xarelto is also proven to reduce the risk of stroke in people with afib, not caused by a heart valve problem. for people with afib currently well managed on warfarin, there is limited information on how xarelto and warfarin compare in reducing the risk of stroke. blood testing routine. i couldn't have a healthy salad whenever i wanted. i found another way. yeah, treatment with xarelto . hey, safety first. like all blood thinners, don't stop taking xarelto without talking to your doctor, as this may increase your risk of a blood clot or stroke. while taking, you may bruise more easily and it may take longer for bleeding to stop. xarelto may increase your risk of bleeding if you take certain medicines. xarelto can cause serious and in rare cases, fatal bleeding. get help right away for unexpected bleeding, unusual bruising, or tingling. if you have had spinal anesthesia while on xarelto , watch for back pain or any nerve or muscle related signs or symptoms. do not take xarelto if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. tell your doctor before all planned medical or dental procedures. before starting xarelto , tell your doctor about any kidney, liver, or bleeding problems. xarelto is the number one prescribed blood thinner in its class. well that calls for a round of kevin nealons. make mine an arnold palmer. same here. with xarelto there is no regular blood monitoring and no known dietary restrictions. treatment with xarelto was the right move for us. . welcome back everyone she doesn't want anyone stuck outside at night especially on a night like this that jamie added she has an incredible story. she goes all over hampton roads trying to help homeless families of food and she even buys hotel rooms for them it's all volunteer and it's all from the heart can be heartwarming and heartbreaking but she never gives up hoping to make her mark the time when most of us want to have incited turn of the jd abbott and her family and friends go outside and get to work. now people have an extra blanket for packing supplies for homeless teens and children really when you do it every day for helping our most vulnerable sites to ninety five in the cold and this and who they're trying to reach on this night that one waiting five months pregnant what you're seeing is james hart hotel kids dot org a nonprofit she started to help that young lady we're going to go find her so they hit the streets searching thing contact beth and benitez will go anywhere we have to go on and on this night that meant searching apartment was living in a laundry room can you imagine living that can be done in the one with the task to learn where the search continues to hope that maybe somebody saw and jamie was my reminder of how cold it is back in the car cleaning kit or she might get caught like a bobble on mon during the lockdown. jamie wanted to buy her a hotel room that's what she does for the homeless like this family who we found living in their car in chesapeake just before christmas. she's not giving up on the young lady who they were trying to help last night not about cost time together not willing to stop while the education that is okay then it's all volunteer to pay for this news agencies help them all they do get a but the agencies actually refer people to her because for whatever reason at all since we first met jamie in december she said she felt at least twenty five more families so it's a great effort out there and again she wants to thank the people of hampton roads are standing by her organization hotel kids dot org hotel kids thought yeah right and coming up we are hitting the road the current ny was more of the way a winter storm is blasting hampton roads. andy scholes is a live look from our chamberlain camera and jeff has more on your snowy rainy forecast for tonight jeff. he got that right a little something for everybody some snow some sleet some freezing rain some while not a lot of freezing rain but maybe a little and right now the different colors of sort of pink and orange here those are areas where we're getting reports of mixed precipitation and are now extending up here just almost into the hampton area coming up the chesapeake bay parts of northampton county not yet pack a mac and back down in north carolina so clearly we're seeing that rain snow line as expected right on target move to the north it's going to continue to do so through the evening so long. it's very light but any lights or a mixture of all sorts of different types of precipitation here across the south side he get back up though on the pencil is not fort eustis out but appear around williamsburg over gloucester point at the white marsh becca buell at the pocket of some definite accumulating snow about the wins we've been talking about those right now they are sustained at norfolk of the airport at twenty six and gusting to thirty seven that's the highest that i see continue to pick up twenty eight down and danielle there's a thirty six and docks at thirty seven was still the highest but those will be up into the forties at least little bit later that's going to drive the water levels up as we go through this evening only three point eight that's also a little bit of water and some very lowest lying areas like around he almost up to the nuisance level the starts at four but well into the minor category up around five feet of total water both tomorrow and saturday and then into sunday with the wind shifting around will get a little bit of sound side flooding down in places like many owe some of the western side there the sound as well. sky cam again shows the snow currently across the region and continuing to watch that rain snow line moved to the north. how much more will we get well not much in the metro area until the next round comes in on the backside of the system will talk all about that coming up in a few minutes has a good thing the schools good reason. absolutely and keep you happy now that we advise you don't if you don't have to drive simply stay home or stay somewhere where you can be safe if you do have to get out there i think the focus will not necessarily be extremely heavy traffic but the rotor so compromise we have cars that have slid off the road in several spots we have accidents a lot of tractor trailer accident this afternoon in a little bit late morning as well so that's the focus right now is keeping people safe and you have to be out there hoping it's not two minutes this afternoon though but if you do whatever the traffic network maps now we'll take a look first at the wide view of hampton roads because as you see it as i just mentioned the focus is going to be more on the fact that the roads are very slippery they are what they are compromised and that's going to be an issue for those that do have to commute but you can see especially kind of uh further south here are around chesapeake in virginia beach the interstate actually look pretty decent so my focus is going to be around the tunnels the bridges over get extra slippery so why not do a head to our camera and give you enough to run the hr bt that's one of the sponsor will still see the heavy traffic your hand into norfolk to this spot is actually just past mallory street about a half mile away from the title at this point we still see that slowed traffic there with a lot of issues at the hr bt headed to norfolk this afternoon and we still have heavy traffic but at least are moving. i was in the blazer starting roughly round settlers landing road right now so about a mile of traffic headed to the south side on the traffic network map the sea we can get to hear at newport news with an axe and sixty four eastbound at victory blocking one lane causing minor delays but you can see the very slow traffic there between jefferson and for use on both sides fifty eight and suffered multiple issues working out their cars in ditches accident to see that the traveling fifty east and west on four sixteen year tucker swamp road we have a tractor trailer crash working right now blocking all eastbound lanes and one westbound lane that's gonna be an issue for the commute the jr be as well as the monitor merrimack no lanes close we just ask you to proceed with caution because the extra slippery at the bridge is their major bt we just talked about eastbound traffic westbound we did have an accident right before you get to the tunnel that didn't clear i'm not seeing major delays right now headed to hampton. but as the afternoon rush hour progresses we could see a bit of a change in that again the rest of the area on the interstates doing okay for the most part keeping an eye on the primary and secondary roads as well. i'll be back in just a few minutes let you know for me to add any more delays to the list but right now again we do advise you try to stay off the roadways as best as you possibly can. i just try to stay somewhere where you're warming are safe because that's going to be the way that we can get you a kind of out of the issue of the roads are cut comes to boil right now with snow still covering a lot of the road right now we'll keep you posted when chopping shape up now more on the road conditions on ninety five to talk to about sixty four when over to erik ainge right now he talked with careful driving so he's live from city center in newport news with more on the main passageway stretching from florida and new england so eric how the roadways out there. well ashleigh the conditions have done a lot better and stop snowing as you can see there's still some slush snow and snow on j clyde morris boulevard right here front of city center i think this area probably got a little about an inch i would say of course it's a lot worse the farther north at hugo's we went in you can and we spoke to some people traveling up from north carolina and tumbling down from northern kenya and they said i ninety five is a total mess car after car crash or abandoned along i sixty four friday afternoon as driving conditions fall apart around williamsburg for the parent a stay at home and avoid the roads we caught up with richard pennington in you can't be left from fayetteville north carolina and slowly made his way up in typed i can probably thirty five car wrecks two tractor trailer accident and a very icy so it is simply was too surreal sun coming down to hampton roads from richmond were use to the winter weather o the purcell couple cause it it's good though they once knew that while others were just glad to be steeped in southeast virginia from what could be in his stored winter blast in the nation's capital still isn't there she says they're expecting twenty to thirty inches. it was a good time to leave guests very much though and coming up in an hour you'll hear from other drivers who are seeking refuge here in hampton roads from this brutal storm that's hitting all around us reporting live in newport news eric came thirteen years now. now use caution on the highways because the talks are held. salting the roads across hampton roads. we spoke earlier with the virginia beach public works department and how they the storm. we didn't rush back at right around eleven o'clock we went to try get a head start just before the school buses started in the streets and again just recheck trouble spots and the bridges to make sure everything's ok there. since then we've been keeping a close we've been checking the traffic cameras traffic operations center. we fortunately have not received any calls from the police sometimes fatal infections in young children frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems the company sold the product in maryland and virginia stores from october twenty first nov twenty fifth of last year below the radar in the northeast area of north carolina the radar shows snow moving out to and rain moving parts of hampton roads jeff has more on the rain and snow showers into the weekend yeah we're going to see rain now rapidly through the next three to four hours over spreading the area that rain snow line has been moving progressively to the north and west and is going to continue to bring very gusty winds and warmer air in off the ocean the storm as it moves toward her she can see really heavy snow now can find pretty much back here to areas just west of richmond and i'm sure some up in the mountains as well that isn't just the local radar here so we can't quite see how all that far in a distant look in the mix of precipitation here near to the coastline. speaking of the coastline right now the camera shaking because the winds are gusting as high as thirty seven mph last time we looked a few minutes ago and sustained twenty some miles per hour so that snow already changing overall mix in a lot of areas exactly as continue to be very windy tonight with high tides sustained winds at twenty to thirty and gusting as high as forty five mph out of the northeast. then they start to shift to show you the forecast we shoot a few days ago for route seven a car through this evening and how it was almost exactly spot on. these are going to be some totals now for the entire storm. so again now across the south side of everything we have will melt with the heavy rain and then we'll have another batch come back in cell. we've already seen at least a trace. we're going to end up with total amounts up to three inches probably i would even doubt we get an additional one to three coming through here tomorrow late today and tomorrow night or two to five inches in this zone back here across areas that are slightly over an amount of range generally around one to three so far so another couple of inches for you tomorrow. later in the day little more than that you can add on a slight accumulation still during the evening but i think for the most part you can see that changeover pretty rapidly and then forty eight back here across areas that are more in when you've already seen anywhere from two to four so you'll have another two to four. it's do you later again tomorrow. any time during the day. tomorrow night and then should and by early sunday. so here's that rain snow line continuing to work its way to the north and the west some sleet snow across areas east of richmond as we get to the evening hours and then it turns back over to a light mix of precipitation early tomorrow we're not going to have a whole lot here at times tomorrow on the south side is the backlash as we call it is going to tend to be up in the center virginia and then come swinging through later in the day and that's what i think we'll see that additional accumulation of at least one and maybe as much as three inches from hers then will continue to fall during the day tomorrow and be in the upper twenties tomorrow night here's really starting to organize some historic numbers potentially so snow to mix to rain as we get through tonight. the rest of the seven day forecast goes like this and see tomorrow's some lighter precipitation turning back into some heavier stuff overnight or in the evening even into the late day and then isolated flurries early on sunday and we finally start recovery monday and tuesday that's latest from the weather authority are right bank staff thirteen new storm own is trending on twitter tonight the just got the notification of all so high and people are slipping and sliding because of this storm and one video in generating traffic online that's what ashley's here to show and tell we've been talking
