hello. i'm jc hayward. thanks for joining us. rescue workers rushed a man to the hospital after he fell down a shaft at georgetown university. this happened at the yates fieldhouse before 10:00 this morning. officials say that the worker fell about 15 feet. his injuries are considered to be life-threatening. and officials are trying to investigate how this accident happened. just moments ago, the supreme court blocked a huge sex discrimination lawsuit against wal-mart on behalf of the women who work there. the court ruled unanimously that the lawsuit against wal- mart cannot proceed as a class- action. the lawsuit could have involved up to 1.6 million women with wal-mart facing potentially billions of dollars in damages. now the handful of women who brought about that suit may pursue their claims on their own. pennsylvania state police say that the television show jack ass cast member ryan dunn has died in a car accident in suburb philadelphia. his porsche flew off the road and burst into flames. officials believe that speed was a factor. a passenger in the car with dunn was also killed. that person's name has not been released. ryan dunn was 34 years old. in his first public speech in two months, serian's president said he is all for reform. but protestors say it is not enough to stop the uprising going on since march. >> reporter: serian refugees don't believe the promises of their president. hundreds of them living in a turkish camp marched against him minutes after he announced plans to make political reform and urged them to return to their homes. in the speech he said the mass protests are not helping. >> what is happening today, he said, had nothing to do with reform. it has to do with vandalism. [ sound of gunfire ] >> reporter: he claimed foreign conspirators are behind the uprising. demonstrators say he is unleashing his forces to crush their movement. they claim his army has killed more than 1400 people and arrested 10,000. in the one town tanks rolled in and witnesses say they opened fire. >> they shot at everyone, this man said. they targeted schools, they shot at people fleeing toward the mountains. >> reporter: opponents say the reforms the president is offering are too little and too late and they want him out of power. but his speech shows he's not about to step aside. rita nissan, for cbs news. nato said one of their air strikes went off target and may have killed civilians in the libian capital of tripoli. officials in libya say this is the building that was hit. gadhafi's government claims that nine people were killed, including two children. a group of ten republicans and democrats filed a federal lawsuit challenging president obama's power to commit u.s. forces in libya. house speaker john boehner said law enforcements could consider a measure this week to cut off funding for that effort. the slow troop withdrawal in afghanistan is expected to begin next month. however, u.s. defense secretary robert gates is resigning in just ten days. so what about the afghan president's claims that the united states is in talks with the taliban? >> the question is when and if they're ready to talk seriously about meeting, that president karzai and the coalition have laid down, including totally disavowing al-qaeda. >> over the weekend the taliban claims responsibility on foreign troop that's killed two civilians in northern afghanistan. the man accused of causing friday's massive security scare around the pentagon remains in custody. law enforcement from several agencies locked down major roads around dld headquarters during friday's morning rush hour. the fbi said that 22-year- oldamasin mala coup was detained for being in arlington cemetery after hours. they said items that he was carrying and statements he made led investigators to believe there was a serious threat. there is no word on a first court appearance. a man was found murdered inside his home in northeast washington and now homicide detectives are tracking down his killer. investigators say the man was in his 60s and they add that someone called police to the home in the 1300 block of levis street for a disturbance and that's when they found the victims body. right now his identity is not being released as police search for a suspect and a motive. well today is the first full day of jury deliberations in a deadly hit-and-run accident. 31-year-old jeritia davidson has been charged with manslaughter, leaving a scene and driving under the influence. police say the chevy chase woman struck and killed 24-year- old kyla ryan of maryland and then drove away. crash happened last october on connecticut avenue and dupont circle in northwest washington. the striking vehicle was given a license number. a case involving sex, a speeding car and alcohol is headed to trial today. a cab driver is suing a convicted drunk driver for ininjures that he suffered during a may 2010 accident on the beltway near telegraph road. according to court records, the defendant was allegedly driving 85 miles per hour while having sex. he was also believed to be under the influence of alcohol at that time. the plaintiff is suing for lost wages, pain and suffering as well as property damage. v-dot is trying to fix a problem that has driven some to the breaking point. we're talking about the dulles toll road to the beltway. d-dot changed the traffic pattern two weeks ago and the back-ups got worse. surae chinn tells us that they have made some improvements but the question is do they work? >> the whole right-hand side is packed. it looks like a parking lot. >> stop-and-go traffic. >> reporter: it's the view of traffic at the toll plaza. >> it's too much. >> reporter: and beyond. >> the traffic backed up from herndon. >> reporter: v-dot recognizes the trouble spot created when they shifted the lanes for their construction projects, making an already bad traffic problem even worse. >> the whole thing is confusing. everything is confusing right now. it's like, if your not from around here, you'll be even more confused. >> reporter: what they hope will be part of the fix is adding a third easy pass-only lane on the far right side. the two were on the far left lane where drivers had to merge on the beltway. >> they could move it more. >> reporter: and v-dot has extended the left lane by 1,000 feet and have plans to improve signage. >> toward the north or toward the south, you have to be very careful. >> reporter: v-dot is monitoring traffic during the rush hour for several days to figure out if the changes they made make a difference. it's only the first monday morning commute with the changes but people are weighing in. >> i don't think it's going to happen as you are describing. >> are you skeptical? >> i think so. >> i don't want to be on it if i don't have to. >> so do you think asking the ez pass and extending the lanes is good enough in. >> no, i don't think so. >> reporter: and if this doesn't work, v-dot will keep trying. >> i think it will take more than what we are doing rights now. >> reporter: survey chin, 9 news now. >> there will be more than 18 months of construction before it is completed. v-dot said it may take a while to ease the traffic congestion. still to come when 9 news now continues, street racing is usually dangerous and it attracts police. but this race near capitol hill drew crowds of proud parents. more evacuations in southern arizona as a massive wildfire closes in on another community. we'll be back. an airshow had a horrible end and it was caught on tape. the pilot of a small plane was performing stunts before a crowd at an airshow in poland on saturday when he crashed into a river. the plane's engine stalled and started spewing smoke before that plunge. crews rescued the pilot and they rushed him to a nearby hospital. unfortunately he died a short while later. high winds are making it hard for crews to gain an upper hand on wildfires in arizona. more residents were ordered out of their homes as flames closed in on the city of sierra vista. fire has destroyed at least 44 homes so far. arizona senators john mccain and jon kyl viewed that devastation and senator mccain said he would like to see private companies helping out. >> i can't predict forest fires, but i guarantee you we can predict that if you treat these fires, and you're going to have to have commercial enterprises to be a part of it, then the damage of the fires will be minimized. >> investigators have questioned two campers they believe may have accidentally started the fire. this is arizona's largest wildfire on record. coming up next, howard and the forecast. >> jc, we are drying out here in the between new jersey and louisiana avenues. and the winners from each division get to compete in the world championship soap box derby next month in ohio. everyone had fun. >> it's great they're still this morning. >> some folks have reports of 4 inches of rain from yesterday and today. and other areas have had quarter of an inch or half an inch. it's been miss and miss. most of the rain now has tapered off. most of the rain. here is a look at the day planner. we have cloudy skies out there but through the middle of the afternoon, we'll start to see some sun peeking through and developing to help boost temperatures up into the mid and even upper 70s. i think 80 degrees today, maybe a stretch the way we're going right now. we'll have to get more sunshine. we'll see some by 7:00 but starting to fall off toward 75 and winds northeast and easterly 5-8, 10 miles per hour. and tonight southeasterly wind, mostly cloudy. we could see patchy fog tonight and also potentially be seeing more showers and storms like we have this morning with this whole area of rain that has move -- move add cross the region. it's been a wet day at ocean city. the afternoon is looking better. and right now the heavier stuff still on the lower eastern shore. and live doppler, we'll take you down to prince george's county into southern areas of prince george's and charles county, you see route 301 and everything is riding off to the south, southwest. a little bit of action and we'll zoom in more here, more action south of woodbridge down 95 and around king george county. so around the big bend and dahlgren as well. that is it. temperature right now 70 degrees with calm winds. dew point 62. i'm going to ask joy to get me some water because this could be tough in the next minute and a half. she's laughing at me. i need water, not laster. 39.93 on the barometer. it's coming up. a coastal flood advisory until about 2:00. high tide on the tidal potomac 1-1.5-foot above normal so watch for minor flooding through the afternoon. now the big pickure, jet stream is dipping across the rockies, carving out a storm system here in colorado. severe thunderstorm watch in effect there, but clusters of strong to severe storms continue across much of the country. so much rain from the mississippi, flooding a worry. and the storms moving southeast and everything is moving east so we could be dealing with more of this later on tonight. so as we go through the afternoon, we say goodbye to the showers there. 2:00 and still a few showers possible in the mountains but by 5:00 i'm hoping we break some of the clouds or else 75 we'll be lucky to get to today. but that's good considering we have heat coming. late tonight and tomorrow morning, here comes showers and storms. they'll be with us in the morning and then a few more in the afternoon. and this pattern, we're going to get hot, occasional thunderstorms and this is with us for the next few days but the heat is starting to build. so for today, upper 70s with sun otherwise mid-70s. but enjoy it. we'll be above 90 tomorrow, wednesday and likely thursday and friday as well with isolated to scattered storms at times. and then as we head
