at the naval academy -- annapolis at the naval academy. kris sneed, it's friday morning, how's it looking on the roads? fortunately you're driving the virginia, things are not looking very good right now. we have a yellow light with a couple of accidents on 95 northbound in virginia. we're going to start out here route 1. you can see only the left lane gets by with this accident. you're seeing delays slow you back down to 123. they're hoping to clear this up sometime soon. but i haven't gotten a word on any time yet. now, going northbound a little further in the hov lanes, only the left shoulder is getting by between 7100 and the franconia springfield parkway. due to an accident there. crews are on the scene as well tries to clear that out. moving over the 395 northbound, everything is looking good here from duke street to the 14th street bridge. over on 66 if you're coming out of manassas and centreville moving the camera there, no problems for them this all the way past 50 to the beltway. finally we're going to end up with some travel times -- i'm going to have more on those 95 accidents coming up at 5:09. mike and jessica? over to you. capitol hill staffers scrapping their plans this weekend. lawmakers are staying in town to debate the debt ceiling. >> we've reached the 11th hour with serious doubts as to whether congress can pass an agreement on tuesday. surae chinn is following developments in our satellite center. good morning. >> reporter: good morning jessica and mike. you know, the holdup yesterday conservative republicans lots of turmoil. going on on capitol hill and gop leaders just knew they didn't have the 217 votes needed to pass this bill. but with each passing hour, there's more anxiety and more frustration and you can clearly feel it on the house floor. >> that's what we have -- >> speaker, speaker. >> the house is not in order. >> reporter: well, still no deal. the war of words went on until late in the morning over house speaker john boehner's bill to cut $970 billion in spending over 10 years. lawmakers emerged around 10:30 last night saying there would be no vote. conservative republicans want deeper spending cuts. >> this is getting serious mr. speaker. very serious. we can't keep spending money we just don't have. we must not be back here in six weeks or six months debating whether allowing our nation default on its financial obligations. >> reporter: harry reid said the house bill will be rejected anyway in the senate. he has his own bill to trim $2.2 trillion and raise the debt ceiling through 2013. republicans meanwhile say it doesn't stand a chance in the house. both sides are working on their own bill. each side vowing that it won't pass on their side. so it's hard to imagine that there'll be some middle ground by tuesday. but you know what? anything can happen. back to you guys. >> well, this sure has been going on for a while so what happens when they reconvene this morning? >> reporter: you can bet there's lots of lobbying that happened through the night. it will continue today and there will be also another vote for the third day in a row. house republicans will try to pass boehner's bill. there's also talk of a short- term extension on this debt ceiling. we'll see if that has to happen. back to you. >> surae chinn live, thank you. police are hoping for a nosey neighbor or any other witness to help them solve a murder. prince george's county officers found a woman dead. they found signs of trauma. the officers came out the dallas place because neighbors reported a strong gasoline smell and then spotted the victim. a victim of a serial slasher wants to caution women not to shop alone. she says she was cut in february as she was leaving the fair oaks mall. and she says she was visibly pregnant at the time. the woman didn't realize she had been slashed until she saw blood open her hand. the attack left a three inch gash on her rear end. >> i don't want him to do this to any more girls, traumatic really. i think it's horrible. and i'm just glad that it's bigger now so that he will get caught. >> now police say there's been at least five of these attacks and they range from chantilly to tyson's corner. the last one happened monday. police say the attacker has worn a large white watch on his left arm each time. if you recognize this suspect, please call police. well, we don't know yet whether or not a northern virginia college will reopen this manage after a raid by immigrations and customs enforcement agents, they hauled boxes and file cabinets out of the university of northern virginia which is housed in a three story building. the for profit school is not accredited and its student body is almost all foreign students. time right now just about 5:06 and i'm watching your money an wall street. the dow recently lacking up the worst losses in about a year. and yet again, all eyes turn again this morning to the debate. now checking the numbers for you, the dow stands at 12,240 after losing 62 points in fridaying yesterday. yesterday -- in trading yesterday. the s&p 500 dropped by 4. starbucks better than expected sales and profits. to chain benefited from new food products. we're going to have to see how the stock fares on wall street later today. apparently a lot of well heeled customers are back because they don't mind the $4 lattes. >> the instant coffee, that's the stuff you can buy in the store right? making news now at just about 5:10, a soldier is under arrest in texas and police say 21 scream naser abdo admits he was planning an attack on fort hood. owners of a gun store identified him as a man who bought boxes of ammo and gun powder and that alerted authorities. 13 people died back in november of 2009 in a mass shooting there. scheduled to go on trial next week. hosni mubarak is being returned to cairo, he's accused of corruption and ordering the killing of anti-government protestors. mubarak has been in the hospital at a sinai resort after his ouster in february. people enjoyed their thursday night on the beach in corpus christi, texas, because tonight they're expecting rain from tropical storm don. it's expected to make landfall in the lone star state later today and they are hoping don will pack enough rain to offset a drought there. we have little age and lots of -- rain and lots of heat ahead of us this weekend. coming up at 5:24. tiger announces he's returning to competitive golf. and the east coast governor talks about the medical emergency he suffered yesterday. flo is a gentle giant. bundle home and auto at progressive.com. martinsburg. but dulles at 97 and national and bwi with records to beat at 99. these things are likely falling and we've had enough record highs this summer but today is going to be another day of it. 77 right now. pax river easton, dover, delaware. still sticky in winchester at 70 and cumberland, you are 70 degrees this morning and hagerstown, 72 with national still 80 at this hour. the doubts way up in the mid -- dew points way up in the mid 70s. another juicy air mass and a southwest wind at 6 miles per hour. the heat advisories are in austin, philly down south even into areas in eastern georgia, down around savannah, they also go west into oklahoma and texas. but we don't see as much as dark red as we've seen. here's the storms this morning up to the north. chicago, detroit, i think this is going to impact air travel there. but if you're going out west, you can see the big ridge of high pressure right over the tennessee and ohio valley and that's sort of going to build in today and protect us from getting too much in the way of storminess. also boost the temperatures up. now tonight little front is going to be coming through and tomorrow morning, front right here. this thing sags south of us so that we're looking at some scattered showers and thunderstorms and for us we're in good shape tomorrow and sunday. not as hot. today record heat 102. hot tomorrow 95. sight chance of a storm late today up north. if you go to the beach, the water temperatures well up in the 70s now with the ocean city inlet and looking good this weekend saturday. 90. sunday i think we'll be okay, i think a slight chance of a storm, 88 and monday 87. tuesday 93 and some storms finally become here wednesday and thursday -- back here wednesday and thursday. now with the timesaver traffic. a couple of accidents all morning long on 95 in virginia. that's why we have the yellow light. out live here, route 1 in wood bridge, we have the accident tractor-trailer accident only the left lane gets by. you're slow as you approach the scene right now. crews are out there trying to clear that for us, northbound though in the hov lanes between 7100 and the franconia springfield parkway, left shoulder gets by. you can exit out of the hov lane right before springfield to get into the main lanes. so no real packups with that -- backups with that yet. going into maryland, 270 southbound we're seeing still no problems between 109 all the way down towards the split. everything's looking good and on the outer loop between 95 and 270. everything's looking good there and everyone is moving at speed. travel times -- i'm going to deep an eye on the -- keep an eye on th95 problem in virginia. we have a commuter alert for virginia train riders. virginia railway express officials are making plans for the future of the rail service. >> they are, they'll be talking about ideas how to expand in the years to come. vre was created in 1992 designed to carry 10,000 people a day. this year, casey wabach. philip daniels also released. one of the most revered guys in the locker room and they released chemowhat too. to baseball, nats trying to avoid the sweep with the newly acquired jonny gomes, but he was 0-3. he wasn't much help. bottom of the 3rd scoring danny espinosa from third. but the marlins continued to pull away and the nats dropped their fifth straight game. 5-2. they are just 9-17 under davey johnson. the legg mason tournament officially gets underway saturday. but it will be without its marquee player. andy roddick has withdrawn from the tournament after getting hurt. it happened during practice. the three time champ has an injured abdominal muscle and this of course his second injury in just a matter of months. a shoulder injury forced him to withdraw from the french open. now with roddick out that leaves five top 20 players in the field. that's a quick look at sports this morning, i'm kristen berset, is a great day everybody. and another pretty big sports note. pga fans are breathing a sigh of relief this morning. they get to watch tiger play again. tiger woods announced on his website he will return to competitive golf for the world golf championships in akron, ohio. which is next week. woods skipped this year's u.s. open and british opens as you may rheobases he was nursing a knee -- may remember because he was nursing a knee injury. first wednesday and then yesterday and maybe today the house will vote on a debt ceiling bill. that story is coming up. plus, here's one traffic problem you don't expect to encounter this morning. antelope. kris? no antelope on the roads, but we have some problems on 95 going southbound in wood bridge. only the left lane is getting by there and then northbound in the hov lanes, only the left record of 99 set in 1993. that heat advisory from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. heat index 105 to 110. not as bad as it was a week ago and we have also got cold oranger -- code orange air quality. 69 in particular tinsburg and looking at dew points this morning well up in the 70s and this is some juicy stuff. but it's going to be this afternoon where we get the 102. kris sneed? well, i have some good news and bad news for drivers. bad news is southbound 95 in woodbridge this route 1 accident to the live shot here, only the left lane is getting by. this is involving three tractor- trailers, word on this is between 6:30 and 7:00 is when they're going to try to open all lanes up. but the delays are now stretching back towards laurenton. good news is 95 northbound. everything has been moved to the left shoulder and all lanes are open and traffic starting to flow a lot smoother, no problems there between fairfax and the franconia springfield parkway. in the district, starting northwest at the key bridge and m street and georgetown, no problems there. looking good. over in northeast though, starting a see volume buildup here. new york avenue at bladensburg, this is typical. metro, vre and m. a. r. c., to problems or delays there. jessica over to you. thank you. this morning rescuers are being overwhelmed in parts of south korea. >> emergency managers now say at least 71 people are dead or missing after torrential rains in the capital of seoul and surrounding areas. nearly 20 inches of rain has fallen there in the last three days triggering flash floods and landslides. libyan opposition leaders say the head of the rebel forces, abdel yonas has been killed. he criticized nato in april for ha he called a slow response. until he defected in february. in recent weeks he's been accused of holding secret talks with gadhafi's government. not enough spending cuts. that's the message from tea party republicans for house speaker john boehner and his debt ceiling bill. so the for house speaker john boehner. who was forced to postpone this vote because he knew he didn't have enough. the 217 needed to get if measure passed and so he had to postpone major setback for him. but check out what was happening in the capitol rotunda. lots of chaos outside as well. where religious leaders were gathering to pray and protest budget cuts to the poor. 11 people were arrested there
