We already have a yellow alert up for wednesday with anticipation for some wintry weather believe it or not. First things first though a very warm, breezy to windy day. Weve got gusts over 40 in Garrett County and gusting over 30 in leesburg and winchester gusts to 2025 even close to 30 in the metro. That will be the case this afternoon. Very warm, windy day potentially a record setting day. 69 now but the record is 74 in washington and 73 up in baltimore, 74 at dulles, even cumberland with a couple low 70s to the south so in the weather headlines potential record today. Well cool down some tomorrow with mid 50s which is right where we should be this time of year. As we get into wednesday a coastal storm will be coming upbringing us rain and snow and even pick up some accumulations inland. Ill talk more about that and the rest of your seven day forecast in just a few minutes and well be back in just a couple minutes with more of wusa 9 news at noon. See you on th welcome back. Two Police Officers are on leave in cleveland after the shooting death of a 12 year old african american. They opened fire on tamir rice, who had an air gun that looked like the real thing. The shooting happened this weekend outside a cleveland recreation center, after less received a 911 call. The officers ordered him to stop and to show his hands and he went into his wasteband and pulled out the weapon. The attorney for the victims family is down playing any possible racial connections to the shooting. The counties Prosecutors Office is still investigating, however. Coming up on wusa 9 from faulty ignition switches to exploding airbags this is the year of the recall in the Auto Industry. A closer look at those welcome back. The Auto Industry is in crisis mode after the news weve reported faulty airbags have slashed, blinded, killed dozens of drivers. Jason vines is our guest at noon. A Public Relations expert says its time the public knew the truth about the industry. He has a new book called what did jesus drive. Theres a picture of the cover of the front of the book. First and foremost one of the things weve seen most recently is the young woman who went on the hill to tell her story. She had some shrapnal in her eye. She was fortunate she was still able to see and first thing we saw is the ceo of the maker of those airbags and they went in front of the public to answer questions. How do you think they handled . I thought the automakers honda and chrysler handed themselves well because they are putting their customer first. Tikataxe is handling this as badly as they possibly could. He was asked a very simple question, do you take responsibility and he fumbled. Yes. Obviously they are putting financial implications and legal matters ahead of customer safety and when you do that in the autoindustry you are dead as a company sooner or later. One of the things that came out a moment ago is the Southern States where these airbags were deployed in so many makes of cars weve learned now they said humidity was a major trigger to make this come forth when the bag came out. You are saying they should do a response that was regional to try to fix it . Well a couple of the crazy senators were demanding a nationwide recall and again the tikata guy blew it. He should have said yes well make it nationwide but well start in the hot states so human states and we arent going to divert airbags to minnesota where its cold so lets take these people, get it done as quickly and efficiently as possible and then move up in other areas of the country. They just cant make these airbag modules overnight. It takes awhile. And we dont want them to be sloppy when they make them. Lets compare the airbag crisis with the gm faulty ignition switch crisis. How was that handled . It was a decade old before thins started to happen. Again some people or a person really put the customer dead last and unfortuntely, we have a lot of dead people. Somebodys going to jail in both of these cases. General motors saw they had a problem, fixed it Going Forward but did nothing for millions of vehicles that still had the faulty ignition switch and then they tried to cover it up and thats where the liability will reside and thats why the plaintiffs attorneys are going crazy licking their chops right now. Now you feel like what youve seen publicly Going Forward gm is moving in the right direction really about trying to help people who have been injured in the past that were ignored . Yes and they are doing settlements now, the really smart people that had a loved one hurt or killed where their child or their loved one wasnt drinking and driving or speeding, those are the people that are going to hit the mother load of settlements and they arent taking the settlement gm will offer. They will wait and go to court. The book is called what did jesus drive. This is jason vines. Howard take it away my friend. Well mike were dealing with near record warmth this afternoon. Show you those records in a moment but right now partly sunny conditions and it has been a windy day, temperatures shoot up in the low to mid 70s still mid 60s this evening so if you have any outdoor plans you should be in fine shape for the rest of the day and this evening. I dont see any rain either. That may not be until wednesday and then wednesday all bets are off. Todays record to beat 74 at dulles and d. C. , 75 in martinsburg. Last night we had all that rain that quickly scooted all the way up in canada just a few showers out toward ohio, western West Virginia and pennsylvania but nothing coming our way so nice, mild warm almost with temperatures in the low 70s in fredericksburg, 72 in easton with upper 60s and even Garrett County 63 out in oakland where winds have been gusting over 40 miles an hour. Our weather camera looks good. Weve got winds in town gusting to 22 but locally a few gusts in the 3035 range, dew point in the 50s so its a lot more humid than a couple days ago. Big picture a storm spinning up with that low pressure spinning as it goes through chicago and southern michigan. Thats an area of low pressure. Behind it starting to draw colder air back down toward the south. Ahead of it were on the warm air but the coolness will start to come in as we get into overnight tonight and on tuesday so tomorrow, temperatures will be in the 50s. Also see a few more clouds around and this is our futurecast tomorrow so partly to mostly cloudy day and some rain if youre traveling norfolk south toward the carolinas and then well have to watch toward wednesday because as low pressure comes up the coast could potentially have no inland i81 west and the morning rain around here. Looks like we could transition from rain to snow during the afternoon but its leakily going to be a little too warm with too many problems on the i95 corridor but areas north and west of d. C. We cant rule out wednesday afternoon picking up a little bit of snow maybe a few inches in the highest elevations. Here is a look at our travel weather wednesday, and once you get south of richmond, i95 and i26, richmond and norfolk and also to the east, so up north now youve got problems in pennsylvania, north and western maryland and this stripe of white should be the more moderate snow up into maine plate erin the day, from new york down toward us, youve got that rain transitioning to snow but it will be warm enough here, even if that happens at most, it doesnt mean its not going to slow you down. Its just going to be wet here but west of the blue ridge, thats where we could be locking at problems in the afternoon so our forecast then for today, 74 windy and warm, that would tie the record. Anything above that were in the books. 50 tonight and tomorrow not as warm, more clouds around 55, yellow alert for wednesday and rain and snow and potentially accumulating snow west of i95 and topper may have that accumulation map out tonight if not tomorrow morning. 38 degrees on wednesday, even colder in the afternoon. On thursday, chilly and a passing flurry or shower early. 40 but talking chilly through friday and then a little bit better so cool for the upcoming weekend. Speaking of cool theres a neat firefighter event come up next june. Kind of the welcome back. Thanksgiving is almost here which means youre probably focused on getting ready for the big holiday but firefighters also want to take time to urge you to keep a close eye on the stove and keep your family safe. Here now with add is vice is Jerome Williams fairfax fire and rescue Department Battalion chief. First and foremost we hate to say this but every year we end up doing a story about somebody doing a deep fried turkey a little too close to the house and a fire starts. Why does this happen every year and what can we do to get things safe before we get started . Like i said it tastes good, but some of the things you can do to keep your family safe is make sure that turkey is is de frosted. Yes. But most of all to keep it away from the house so dont do it in the garage, or in a barn or any covered structure, because then that turkey going in might even boil over and then catch on fire. Now youre talking about hot oil could possibly be spewing out when you drop the turkey in. Yes, sir. Keep things splatter distance away i guess right . Thats good. How can you prepare ahead just in case something does happen with a fire . Preparing ahead would be having an extinguisher nearby. Close by. A regular red fire extinguisher you could use in your ditch then. Lets hope you already have that in the kitchen but dont use water. A lot of people use water and that makes the problem worse by causing splatter and then even harm to yourself and then while youre doing that run upstairs and check your Smoke Detectors also and put that together with Smoke Detector and a fire extinguisher but most of all, call 911. We can get there pretty fast. Dont try and put it out yourself. Okay, youre also here for another important reason that you are supporting. What is this . Holy cow. This is beautiful. It looks like a torch from the olympics. Yes, sir. The world police and fire games are coming to the dmv 2015, tha
