Place. No major issues around town. An earlier issue on the bw parkway is all clear. I want people to be mind mindful of when the pope travels around town there will be intermittent closures in place. I got caught up in one yesterday. It only lasted about 10, 15 minutes at best. You wont have too much of any problems there. Again we do have road closures near the capitol and mass avenue. The northbound side closed. Southbound open near Observatory Circle as well as close to waterside drive. For commuters out in that area, youll need to be mindful of that this morning. Heres a live look from our trafficland cam. This is Eastern Market at kenilworth avenue or Eastern Avenue rather at kenilworth avenue. No issues either inbound or outbound. If you travel toward the 11th street bridge, all lanes of traffic are open. Traffic is still fairly light so no issues there. A live look at the beltway, light on beau the inner and outer loop. Were expecting a little more volume than yesterday. Yesterday was eerily quiet. Hopefully the good fortune weve seen the past couple of days continues. Well have another traffic update in ten minutes. Over to you. Larry, thank you very much. At 10 00 a. M. All eyes and ears will be on the pope. He will be addressing a joint session of congress. We dont know exactly what hes going to say but his mission, his pessage all a message all along in this historic trip has been about love, compassion for those who are marginalized, those who are overlooked. And hes chided us for not doing more and he probably will be talking about issues like that. We did get sort after preview when he went to the white house yesterday and right off the top he talked about himself being an immigrant, the child of immigrants and calling for the income gap between the poor and the rich be closed. But he says he is not a politician and he doesnt favor any Political Party. He is just going by the tenets of his church, the mission of jesus christ. Thats what were expecting from him at 10 00 a. M. After he finishes here at congress, then he will go and be between the people that he cares about the most. Hes going to st. Patricks on the hill and then to Catholic Charities, the archdiocese of washington. There he will meet with 400 homeless people, help serve lunch to these peep who are the ones that he people who are the ones that he cares about the most and wants all the rest of us to care about. After he finishes on the hill and Catholic Charities, he will then come back to the Vatican Embassy, rest up for a while before he heads to joint base andrews and his plane shepherd one will then take off around 4 00 heading to new york where his trip to america will turn and there he will address the General Assembly, the United NationsGeneral Assembly and all the World Leaders who are meeting there. So a very busy day today, a shortened day after an extremely triumphant day yesterday but an important one that we will be following all day long. Lets go to surae chinn now whos on the National Mall where how many thousands of people will be gathered there . Reporter there will be a lot of people. Right now its a bit early but we are seeing things getting busier at this hour. Were seeing folks trickling in here on the National Mall and folks who are heading on to the grounds of the capitol. Some 50,000 people will go on the Capitol Grounds who have tickets. So the pope will be addressing congress. They will be able to watch here on the National Mall. The pope will meet privately with speaker john boehner. Then he comes out on to the balcony on the west lawn where he will greet some 50,000 guests. Yesterday was a joyous occasion on the National Mall. I was here during the parade as the pope mobile went by. We suspect that will be the same thing where people are so connected to the pope. They feel that he is the peoples pope, that he is just down to earth, that he is humble and that they pray for him and he prays for them. That is what they expect and thats what they will see on these jumbotrons here on the National Mall. Now we want to send it to Nikki Burdine where the pope will be heading to st. Patricks and the Catholic Charities. Nikki . Reporter thats right. Thank you. Security is already in place at 8th and g streets. The streets are already blocked off leading up to st. Patricks church and the Catholic Charities. But when the pope gets here later on, this will be a very special trip for the pope. In fact, it will be one that means a lot to him because as you know, hes a pope of the peep. He enjoys spending type with the less fortunate so today he will be time with the less fortunate so today he will be in his element. He will also walk by something that is significant to the Catholic Church, Catholic Charities and the pope as well. He will walk by a statue of homeless jesus. It is a statue wrapped in a blanket with only the feet exposed with the marks of the crucifixion. Every day they walk by it, touch it and say a prayer right next to t. Those here at the church hope pope francis will do that as well. He will also walk outside to a temporary structure. He will bless the meal before its served to about 200 clients of Catholic Charities many of whom are homeless, poor, immigrants. Thisthey feed hundreds of people each week. The. Of Catholic Charities told us what the popes visit has meant to them. Hes coming and speaking to us. Hes a pretty important guy. He will speak to us. They feel really validated and appreciated and i think they receive dignity. Reporter it will also mean a lot to the pope. While this may not be the most historically significant or politically significant part of his trip to washington, it will no doubt be one of his favorites because this pope is a man of the people and this is something he just loves to do. Thats the latest in northwest. Now well send it to mike hydeck. Reporter good morning, everybody. Mike hydeck on the west lawn of the capitol. This low pressure system is a little tricky. If it starts to track farther to the north, we could have a lot of wet weather over the weekend. If it stays on its current track staying farther to the south, well stay dry and cloudy and areas to the north, even maybe a little bit of sunshine. So here we go by tomorrow. Cloudy skies, mid70s tomorrow. So dropping into more seasonable averages. Notice all the moisture staying farther south. By saturday, saturday is a more questionable day. Notice Sunshine North of d. I was screaming. That is where the kids will be gathered. They are randomly selected by the diocese. They represent about 96 schools. In about an hour or so, were expecting to see some of those children gather outside here at the embassy and hoping to again catch a glimpse and maybe spend some private public moments.
