Bit. This is sky9, so youre seeing what theyre seeing from the air. Its a rural area. This is an area near a lot of industrial parks. It is in frederick, maryland, and so if youre looking for some sort of geographic point of where it is, its north of i 270. Lets get back to that phone call we mentioned earlier. A man named tim flannery apparently saw the whole thing go down. Tim, are you there . Yes. Can you tell us what you saw this afternoon . I didnt see it happen. I just heard a loud boom and went out of my shop and seen the parachute dangling in the air and then me and another guy steve norton got in my truck and drove across the field over there and found two guys in the airplane, got them out. You say you found two men in that airplane and got them out . Yes. Were they alive when you found them . Yes. They were alive. Did you see anyone in the parachute . You didnt see the actual planes go down, but did you see anyone in the parachute . No. The parachute was attached to the plane. Was there anyone else in there because were told three people died . There was a third person on that plane or did you see a helicopter . No. There was only there was only two people on that plane. I think [ audio breaking up ] youre breaking up. Tim, forgive us for interrupting you. Were having a tough time hearing you. The last thing we heard you say clearly is that there were two people you were able to get out of the plane. I suppose if youre someplace where we can hear you just a little bit better, do you know if there were other people on that plane as well . Okay. I think we may have lost him. We need to try to get tim back because he seems to have been involved in an actual rescue of the two people and perhaps we dont know for sure these are the two people the fire chief told us were transported because tim said they were alive and on board that plane which was aided in its landing by that parachute. So perhaps the crash was not quite as severe there. We still know nothing about who was on board that helicopter and whether or not any of those suffered a fatal accident today. The witness we just talked to didnt see the plane go down but heard a loud boom, saw a parachute dangling in the air and he and a friend drove over to the plane that was involved in this and was able to try and get two people out of that plane. Hopefully well be able to get him back on the phone and get a few more details about what happened there because as you mentioned, derek, when we spoke with the chief earlier, he mentioned two people were taken to the hospital. So the question would be were the two people that tim found the two taken to the hospital. Lets wrap it up quickly. Three people dead, perhaps two badly hurt or hurt in a plane helicopter collision in frederick, maryland. Right now police and fire are still investigating exactly what happened. We do know that the plane was on its way from cleveland, tennessee, to frederick, maryland. It was a 2006 cirrus sr22 four seats, one engine owned by a company in olney, maryland. The plane was a robinson r the helicopter. Helicopter. Let me stand corrected there. That is the latest on that now. Well move on to some other news and well come back to that as soon as we have more information. We are learning new information about the latest person to jump that white house fence, 22yearold Dominic Adesanya of bel air, maryland, and he was in u. S. Federal court this afternoon facing charges of unlawful entry and harming animals used in law enforcement. Andrea mccarren was in the courtroom when the suspect came in. Reporter it was an agitated and disruptive Dominic Adesanya who limped into the courtroom in a blue jumpsuit. His left arm was covered in bandages as were several fingers on his right hand. Immediately after his arraignment u. S. Marshals had to forcibly remove him from the courtroom. Get down reporter watch closely as a secret service dog jumps on and tackles Dominic Adesanya who is wearing white shorts. The fence jumper gets up, arappe s tograb the dog by the throat and slams it to the ground. He then appears to pummel the dog with his fists before agents subdue him. The white house is now looking into additional security measures. Theyre considering a wide range of thing including the deployment of personnel, technology and even physical obstacles like a fence. Reporter adesanya was unarmed when he climbed the north fence around 7 15 wednesday evening. It was his second arrest at the white house. Court record reveal he was charged with unlawful entry in july and told an officer that a security barrier he jumped at the time was easy and that the next fence to the south grounds of the white house would not be a problem as well. The suspects father said his son is mentally ill. Its hard being in your house not knowing that the person youre living with is trustworthy and youd know they are mentally, you know, mentally disturbed. Reporter Stevenson University in owings mills, maryland, confirms that adesanya briefly attended the school and was a sprinter on the track and field team. He left stevenson in december of 2013. We want to get him help and weve been asking the government to give him help and nobody wanted to help us, to find help for him. Reporter adesanya was arrested at the Treasury Department in late july for unlawful entry and three counts of assaulting, interfering or resisting a police officer. Tonight he is held without bond and faces a preliminary hearing monday. The judge did grant the public defenders request for a psychiatric evaluation of adesanya to be completed by monday. Could Hannah Graham abduction suspect Jesse Matthew be taking a trip to Fairfax County to answer to charges there any time soon . Today a bench warrant was issued to bring him to our area, but what does that mean and what happens next . Debra alfarone is live with that part of the story. Reporter im standing here at the office of the attorney of Jesse Matthew. He told me originally he wasnt going to be representing matthew with these new fresh charges in fairfax, but now hes done a 180. Hes not talking, but a lot of other people are. We cut this story down to bring you with whats happening next. Were starting at the beginning. On monday Hannah Graham abduction suspect Jesse Matthew was slammed with new charges that he sexually assaulted and tried to kill a woman in 2005 in fairfax. Police say he left his dna. The 32yearold already sits in a charlottesville jail cell charged with abducting missing uva student Hannah Graham intending to sexually molest her and now a brandnew bench warrant asking for matthew to return to fairfax to face the new charges. We did it with the sniper case and its every bit as big of public case as that one was. Reporter who better to ask what happens next in this multi jurisdictional case than defense attorney Peter Greenspun who represented d. C. Sniper John Allen Muhammad convicted of a crosscountry killing spree. There are some questions about the timing, what goes first. Fairfax is going to be a faster moving jurisdiction. Hes been indicted here, so the charge is closer to trial here than it is in charlottesville. Reporter but with no remain on the Human Remains Found saturday charlottesville may wrangle to try their case first. Remember, matthew is also facing abduct charges. My guess is they want to move slowly to try to build a murder prosecution down there. Reporter which brings us back to the question Everyone Wants an answer to, what is taking so long to get a positive id on those remains found over the weekend . The medical Examiners Office said its very difficult to put together a timeline to positive id those remains is all they would say. I asked are dental records being used. They wouldnt comment. A trial date has been set in the murder case against Charles Severance charged with shooting to death three prominent alexandria residents who were killed in their home. Todays hearing was the first time some family members of the victims saw severance in person. We all miss ruthanne dearly every day. Reporter Ruthanne Lodato was shot to death in february after she opened her door to a stranger. Today was the first time her husband norm saw in person the man charged with killing her. This is video of Charles Severance last spring in West Virginia where he was arrested. Today he looked similar with the same beard staring motionless in an alexandria courtroom. Despite his attorneys request for a later trial, the judge set the trial date sooner but still a year away, october 5th of 2015. I think the families will appreciate the judges commitment to setting the trial date to sticking to a schedule. Reporter severance will also be tried for the murders of transportation executive ron kirby last november and Nancy Dunning 11 years ago. He . Was the sheriffs wife. Severances defense attorney said in court he may seek to separate the three cases. I can only say we need to look at the discovery materials once we get them. Its too early. We are just Getting Started on wusa9 news at 5 00, followup to a wusa9 report that got a lot of attention. We check in on a local teen whose mom shipped her off to siberia with very little hope of ever coming back home. And after the break will be it rick or colt mccoy when the Washington Redskins look we are back still talking about this breaking news, a helicopter and plane collided in midair near the frederick municipal airport. It happened earlier this afternoon, lots of fire and rescue equipment on the scene and apparently three fatalities. Were going to the scene now to find out more about whats happening. Reporter were getting some information from the faa. According to the federal aviation administration, this is a midair collision that happened at around 3 40 p. M. Today. A cirrus sr22 was the plane that was involved and an r44 helicopter, according to the faa they collided in midair. The plane was inbound to the airport, so coming in for a landing at the airport. The helicopter were told was involved in a Training Exercise when this midair collision occurred. Helicopter in a Training Exercise. So what weve heard, jeff, and maybe you can old it us more is that three people you can old it us more is that three people have died and they you can tell us more is that three people have died and they were in that helicopter. Reporter keep in mind its still early in this and ive talked to some First Responders still trying to make it to the scene of this, but were told three are dead, two are hurt. Its still not clear exactly where the three fatalities occurred, if they were in the helicopter or the plane, but we do know the cirrus sr22, the aircraft that was involved, it has a parachute. I was told and this is unconfirmed by First Responders who were going to the scene, but i was told by another source who was in the area where the midair collision occurred that the two hurt or the two injured were likely on that plane and again thats the plane that has this parachute mechanism that can activate when a plane is in some sort of distress. I think we can tell you from the pictures weve seen that parachute did activate today. Weve seen the remains sort of draped over the trees from above via sky9. We talked to a witness a few minutes ago who said that he helped perform a rescue of two injured people in that plane itself which would tend to confirm what you just tomorrow us, that the two told us, that the two injured folks came from the airplane. Reporter the two people injured were transported to a Trauma Center inning in in hagerstown and even though that plane has a parachute, it doesnt necessarily guarantee a safe landing. In fact, according to someone i spoke with minutes ago who has investigated crashes before, in many of these cases where these parachutes have deployed you actually lose more passengers than you save. So although it may look like the type of mechanism that guarantees a safe landing, it doesnt always do that. Thats a sobering statistic there if it is indeed true. I know were very early in this investigation. Are you hearing anything about whether wind was a factor . Reporter obviously thats something theyll have to look into. I just reached out to the ntsb, the National Transportation safety board. It will likely be up to their investigators to look into what happened. They go into these things with a clean slate. You dont jump to any of conclusions and take into account all of the factors. Im hearing right now, i just got an email from someone with the National Transportation safety board and yes, they are sending an investigator to this scene. Im told investigators are already on the way. When you talk about safety at an airport, you think about air Traffic Controllers and towers, but apparently frederick has no tower. How does that affect safety and how are they able to help guide planes into that airport . Reporter this is something unusual, which is why were covering it. So well just have to see before jumping to any sort of conclusions. I know that there have been some complaints about the fact that the tower issue has been rather controversial in that area, but obviously investigators will look at that. They will look at weather factors. They will look at the performance of the pilots as well. So they will look at everything as they begin to investigate this midair crash. This airport we know is frequently used. In fact, the nurse with ebola, nina pham, who flew into our area last week came through that particular airport and 300 some businesses use it all the time. So it is in fairly heavy rotation there in frederick. In fact, this is the second most trafficked airport in the area . Reporter its a busy airport. The fact its a busy airport doesnt explain what happened today. Obviously well just have to see. Planes fly and in and out of that airport all the time and nothing happens. Here something clearly went wrong. Investigators are going to have to find out exactly what that was and thats the thing about air travel. Sadly when things like this happen, this is where you learn how to improve the safety of air travel and thats what will happen in this case. Weve been talking about where that plane went down and how you can see the parachute hanging about in trees. What about the helicopter, any sign where that went down . Reporter i have not seen any sign of that helicopter, but i can see from the video that your chopper is providing that this is a tree lined area near the airport. So obviously it is somewhere in that area and it may be on the ground. Jeff, earlier we talked with a chief who said we knew that three people were dead. We knew two people were transferred to the hospital, but there was still the possibility there could be other potential victims in the area. Have you seen any other emergency vehicles taking anyone from that scene . What else are you seeing . Reporter well, most of the information, the most Accurate Information were getting right now, is coming from First Responders and the faa and now the ntsb. As you know, its still very early. This is something that happened at 3 40, so its been almost a couple hours now, but in terms of an investigation, in terms of figuring it out what exactly went wrong its still very early. In fact, as i mentioned, i spoke with a First Responder who is still trying to make it to the scene there. We know that three are dead. Two people have been transported to a Trauma Center in hagerstown. So it sounds like right now there were five people involved. Thank you for your eyes and your information and if you hear anything else, we hope to talk to you again soon. Topper is joining us now. Well take a bit of a breather here from a rather awful story and talk a bit about the solar eclipse. I hear its on the way. It is. Remember you dont want to look at this. Taking a look at some stories trending right now, little girls dropping the f bomb, really . I think we can have of them speak articulately about this issue without using those words. The toughest thing might be getting them to stop using the word later on once you get them in that vibe. Im not sure that actually benefits this cause. Gator hunting is a real part of life in some areas. In jacksonville hunters snatched a 13foot 750pound monster. He got close enough to i guess he couldnt with stand the bait and it finally was just his night. Reporter for the past several months these two men have been scouting this particular gator they nicknamed lumpy and caught him off guard shortly after sunrise in only 4 to 5 feet of water. Even more surprising, the pair had just a rope, a few hooks and their string. I told kelly were just going to have to get him by hand and thats all there is to it. Im going to respectfully suggest that it actually was not lumpys night. Lets be real. Four hour later they brought him in, weighed him. He was so heavy he broke the scale. Ultimately lumpy was killed used for meat and shoes and stuff like that. His hand will be mounted on kellys wall. So it really wasnt his night.
