friend joseph cromwell would help his elderly neighbor get around. >> she was a very nice woman. i cut her grass, take her to the store, when i heard this, it really blew me. >> reporter: detectives are talking with neighbors of 71-year-old geraldine joyce mcintyre. >> right now we are passing out flyers. it is a cash award flyer for anyone who has any information in reference to the murder of mrs. mcintyre. >> reporter: police got a call for a welfare check and discovered mcintyre suffering from upper body trauma. she later died at the hospital. >> this is not the same neighborhood it used to be. the same people that lived here few of them still here, and these are elderly people that seemed to be targeted. >> reporter: neighbors say there have been recent home break- ins, but police won't say if robbery is what led up to the murder. >> they are walking up and down the streets all times of night. you don't know who is who. you have to be careful and lock your doors and people around here aren't used to locking their doors. >> reporter: neighbors say mcintyre lived with her disabled daughter, who lab in the -- who has been in the hospital. >> we are going to find who did this. >> reporter: in capital heights maryland, sue rae chin wusa9. a 14-year-old is being charged as an adult in the murder of his 7-month-old sister. police say gloria yang he's went to work and when she arrived home the baby was unconscious. the teen admitted hitting his sister then covering her nose and mouth to make her stop drying. a woman dies while undergoing an abortion at a controversial german town clinic. the washington post reports the state's medical examiner is now investigating the death of a 299-year-old woman. abortion opponents have accused the clinic's doctor, leroy carhart, of performing dangerous procedures. some prince george's county residents are seeing discolored water this morning. it is the result of a broken main. the affected customers are in laurel and belksville. the water is safe for drinking, bathing and cleaning your floors, but they advice against using tap water for baby formula or washing clothes, as it may cause stains. time now and downs, wild swings, mild times and very cold times. as we head toward march and get toward the end of winter. this morning we have active weather going on in the form of cold rainshowers here. generally will be done in the next three or four hours. by lunch time cloudy and 50. this afternoon mostly cloudy, upper 50s even 60s in spots. winds 10 to 15 miles per hour. have a little bit of freezing rain and snow across pennsylvania. in the northeast we have snow but we also have rain. that is going to fall on very heavy snow pack on homes. adding weight to structures. you see rain moving through the region, baltimore the upper part of the bay now. we are still seeing a few moderate showers from frederick all the way to bethesda toward dulles and sterling now moving across areas coming through dc and even south of town here. this is going to cross generally east into perhaps northern charles and prince george's county. headed toward charles county this morning. there are a few more showers here and that is why we have the wet streeks. look at the-day-old air in place up north. 20s and 30s. we have 50s in fact upper 50s in charleston, west virginia, norfolk is 51. 36 in arlington, to the east not much difference in temperatures, 37 in bowie and waldorf. prince frederick 42 down there. here's looking outside and reduced visibility. that is the jefferson memorial few more hours of on and off showers and the rest of the day actually looks pretty good. by lunch time, even sunny breaks north and west. better chance of seeing breaks north are and south of town. the clouds stay thick until tonight when we clear out. another system wednesday will bring us rain and maybe snow wednesday night. yellow alert are until about 9:00 or so. 58. rest of the day looks dry, 52 tomorrow after starting in the 30s. wednesday though mid-40s with the afternoon rain potentially changing to snow at night depending on the storm track. still cool friday and colder this icon right there, that is an indication of where we are talking about, fire equipment on the scene. the house was i believe fully engulfed in flames. here on the west side of town no issues, gw parkway, dulles toll road, 66 inside the beltway coming out of the district, looks like 66 is a tiny bit heavy this morning. a live picture no problems here on the north side of town. this is what it looks like in silver spring on the outer loop leaving university boulevard into bethesda. let's take another look at our maps. aspen hill, wheaton, bethesda, and i-95 out of baltimore. this time taking it over to route 50. the pressure is being turned up on capitol hill, lawmakers to reach a deal to avoid automatic federal government cuts. >> remember last week when you heard leon panetta slam his hand down? today leaders are trying to urge action before sequestration takes effect, which is on march 1. virginia senators talked about the really dire consequences and mark warner chastised defense contractors for not taking a more active role. warner has tried to work on a bipartisan budget solution and put most of the blame on congress. >> there is a stupid way and a less stupid way to do this. let's at least default to the less stupid way goo wow. senators warner and cain are advocating to return to the normal budget negotiating process. warner said the constant delays are going to wind up costing taxpayers lots of money. police in police georges county are looking for tips in the murder of an elderly woman. officers found the woman severely beaten saturday inside her home. wusa9 reporter delia goncalves has more. >> reporter: good morning andrea and mike. the murder happened here in this quiet neighborhood. you can see the on house is still blocked off with police tape, still are considered a crime scene. i can tell you two officers have parked their cruiser on the street outside the house, no doubt to relieve the fears of many neighbors. 72-year-old geraldine joyce mcintyre was found inside her home, the 1200 block of chapel oaks, with trauma to her upper body. mcintyre lived with her disabled daughter, who neighbors say has been hospitalized for several weeks now, following a stroke. police received a call to checkup on the elderly woman. >> she was a very nice woman. i used to cut her grass, take her to the store, to get her medicine. when i heard this it really blew me. i know me, i'm going to be crying. yes. she was just that close. >> reporter: a tough loss for a lot of folks in this neighborhood. mrs. mcintyre lived here for about 15 years, we are told. odds and ends taking had her on various errands through the community. coming p up at 6:00, we'll have much more on a search for the suspect and why neighbors say they are suspicious of even those who live amongst them. >> delia goncalves, reporting live from capital heights. this afternoon at the white house president obama will award the medal of honor. today's recipient is a retired army staff sergeant, being rewarded for his conspicuous gallant try in 2009. he is credited with rallying his units to repel an attack by taliban insurgents. dozens of local national guard troops are heading to a new assignment. family and friends bid farewell to the soldiers. the guard unit will work at guantanamo bay, cuba, their deployment is expected to last about 10 months. a former maryland first lady may now be eyeing her own political career. john leopold, who is a republican, resigned after being convicted of misconduct in office recently. the county
