81 in trenton. some 70s through south jersey and down the shore. 81 in dover. lancaster 83 degrees. this evening temperatures will be falling through the 70s. but still warm at 7:00 p.m. with temperature of 78. by 9:00, 74. and just a light wind at 11:00 p.m. with a temperature of 72 degrees. coming up we are going to go for one more day of record warmth tomorrow even warmer than today chestnut hill sends one woman to the hospital. the victim tells us the dog was off his leash when he jumped on her and bit her. >> and the woman just overcome a very big health hurdle. fox 29's dawn timmeney joins us live from chestnut hill. so, dawn, how is she doing? >> reporter: well, lucy the victim is doing much better. but frankly, she is extremely shaken about this whole thing and she worries if people don't leash their doing the next person might not be as lucky. >> come on lucky. >> reporter: long-time chestnut hill resident caroline king often walks her dog lucky on a leash in pastorus park but two weeks ago, a stroll in this surrene spot on a beautiful fall day turned to terror. king says two dogs that were not leashed came running over to greet her jack russell. she didn't think much of it. but then -- >> out of the blue, third dog barrels towards me. >> the mother of two says the next thing she knew the large white dog with his leash dragging behind was biting her in the arm. >> i thought it was just greeting me and i love dogs. and i like pitbulls. it was a white pitbull, and he just immediately started biting. >> reporter: king says she frantically called out to the owner to get her dog as she tried to get away. >> i turned back around he bites me right in the face. and under the chin. >> somehow the woman was able to grab her dog. bleeding and in shock, king who lives two houses away told the woman she be right back to get her information. when she returned moments later, the woman and her three dogs were gone. >> it was kind of like a hit-and-run. that's how it fell. report roar since king didn't know if the dog had been vaccinated she had to go to the hospital and begin a full cycle of rabies shots to make matters worse, king had just completed seven months of chemotherapy and radiation for breast cancer. her last radiation treatment just two days before. >> i had just finish it. i was on my wellness trip, you know, i was on my -- that was going to be my first week of wellness. >> reporter: the park is not a designated dog park even though many consider it an unofficial one. there are several signs that clearly state dogs christine andrews new and michael papale. risk and and causing a catastrophe. >> police are searching for a cold-blooded killer. they say someone shot a man minutes before his 30th birthday on the 700 block of east al gain me avenue happened right before midnight. police transported the man to temple university hospital where he died a short time later. so far police don't have any suspects. they are reviewing video from the area. he's become a beloved bear in north jersey known for walking up right as if he was a man in bear suit. video went viral. but now officials say someone hunted and walk on all foursings. he was one of 487 bears killed during new jersey's five-day bow and arrow hunting season for black bears. >> pedals was defenseless and pedals was taken down by a hunter to be a trophy. >> new jersey state senator raymond lesniak started online petition that's already received 10,000 signatures for a bill he's proposed that would ban bear hunting in the state for the next are baited with doughnuts and sweets, that's what they want then, and they leave their natural habitat and go into neighborhoods. >> reporter: senate economic growth committee voted three-two to advance the measure. many who live in those neighborhoods though believe hunting is the only effective way to control the bear population. >> we'd be out with the kids in the yard and all of a sudden one of them would cream bear. gather them up and run to the deck because they've come right through your yard no matter what time of day. >> reporter: dep said there was no practical way to protect lion again. >> in passaic county, lydia, fox news. >> one very big powerful show of support for two palm springs police officers killed in the line of duty. 10,000 people said their final farewell to 63-year-old jose gill vega and 27-year-old leslie zerebny. a man shot and killed both officers during domestic disturbance call in early october. officer vega was a father of eight. 35 year veteran of different story around here. looking live at reading berks county record high temperatures are a real possibility for some of our area. what season are we in again? >> i forgotten. kathy orr has your full forecast in 15 seconds. what an afternoon we're talking about warmth. we're talking about sun. we're talking about records and yeah those wintry pictures were pretty but i'd rather look is the sunshine. dry conditions across the delaware valley. we have a front but you can see on future radar it washes out tomorrow and we stay in the warm summer like heat. right now the temperature is 80 degrees in pottstown. 82 in philadelphia. close to the record we'll see when the official numbers come out within the next few minutes p lancaster 83 and the poconos it is 74 degrees. when you look at the northeast, looking southeast canada. even into new york state. still pretty warm. quebec okay. that's the chilly spot but ottawa 73. upstate new york syracuse 81 degrees. pittsburgh 79. so many of us seeing the warmth so it's warm on the east. it's cold on the west. nature always tends to seek that balance. high pressure building off the coast. we've been talking about that summer like pattern we get one more really good day of this with temperatures running about 15 to at least 20 degrees above normal. so tonight it's a warm night. in the city 65. the suburbs 60 with clear skies. a moonlit evening with southwesterly winds. during the day tomorrow, another gorgeous day. it will not be difficult to break the records tomorrow. the record in philadelphia is 80. that was set back in 1947. we're going for 85 degrees on october 19th. pretty mazing. winds out of the west mouth west about five to 10 miles an hour. so here's a look at the numbers to beat. philadelphia the record 80. in reading the record is 84. atlantic city 80. trenton 83. allentown 82. and wilmington 81 degrees. so i do expect probably all of them if not 99% to be broken tomorrow. so this is a way we'll set it up. during the nighttime hours, clear skies. during the day tomorrow, a few clouds moving through but you can see that rain just disappeared. few clouds moving in late tomorrow evening. but then by thursday, we watch and area of low pressure along a front pushes this moisture toward the delaware valley. thursday morning, our sue serio will be talking about the rain getting close and by the time we air "good day philadelphia" we'll be seeing some showers then into thursday evening we still have some rain and a showers could linger into frid friday. so when we look at the rain for thursday and for friday, we see the heaviest going to the west through new york and upstate pennsylvania to the west where we could see about 3-inches in the delaware valley about quarter of an tomorrow half an inch of rain over the course of thursday, thursday night and some showers on friday. so not a lot of rain but as we look at our two computer models the gfs and european model we're still in that range between about quarter of an inch to half an inch of rain by saturday morning. so you may need to water the lawn. take look at the seven day forecast. showers thursday a few showers friday. of course we have the temple game. we do have a beautiful day for saturday although a big dip in temperature the high only 59. sunday, monday and tuesday, more seasonal for this time of year with highs in the business. ♪ scary news out of dallas texas where a sick-year-old girl took a gun school. teacher found the loaded gun in the first grader's backpack while she was checking for homework. the district says the gun was put there over the weekend by family member who forgot about it. thankfully no one was hurt. it's not clear yet if police plan on charging the child's parents. scammers swindle americans out of millions of dollars a year by working a slick game. in fact, our area's energy giant peco is locked in the battle with scammers right now. >> fox 29 investigates reveals how this swindle is pulling big bucks from local energy user. here jeff cole. >> reporter: perch the water in bensalem high tides restaurant and bar served up booze and grub for almost two years now. early days in the restaurant business are often the toughest as a loyal clientele is built any bump in the road can mean business trouble. >> they said they were on their way out within 20 minutes to disconnect the power. specifically to take the meter. >> reporter: the call came in on a land line in august. it was energy giant peco or at least coach owner paul stock brook thought it was. threatening to pull the plug on the bar unless some money was slapped down on an overdue bill. >> they say they're coming to shut your business down? >> correct. >> reporter: they're going to cut the juice. >> correct. your. >> reporter: you'll go dark here. >> correct. >> reporter: you're thinking what the heck. >> exactly. it's 4:00 o'clock on wednesday afternoon, you know, i'm running a restaurant. >> reporter: stockbook who says the bar was late on its bill and was working with peco calls the number that was left and gets an operator who he claims knows specific details about his business. like problems with getting the bar's mail. he claims the caller knew their billing address was different from the restaurant's address and he says the operator confirmed the phone number linked to their peco account. >> which happened to be my partner's cell phone number. which is not listed anywhere. i doorway they tell me and make the payment. >> reporter: he says he had some doubts, but he followed the destructions to buy money pack cards at rite aid and called back with the card number. he says did he it in part because of what he heard on the phone. >> so when you called the number they gave you, you got peco? >> peco. >> reporter: you got the peco line. >> i got the peco record. >> reporter: you heard right. he was taken for 3800 bucks, and the bookkeeper for yet another peco customer both tell fox 29 when they called the phone number left behind by the scammers, they got what they thought was peco's voicemail system. it's all part of a sophisticated swindle that separating utility customers from their money. >> driving a peco truck. >> ben armstrong is a peco spokesperson. he says the utility is aware of what's happening and has alerted its customers to the scam. but so far has been unable to stop it. >> you know that they have the technology to fake your system? people are calling in and think they're actually talking to you. >> these scammers are replicating portions of peco's voicemail system, and we are working with local authorities and to investigate how this is happening. and to determine whether or not there's any way to prevent it from happening. >> reporter: armstrong says, the scammer calls started with a trickle back in 2011. with just six attempts but they jumped to 28 the following year. nearly 500 the next and peaked at over 1700 in 2014. and there's still coming. peco says in 2015, 86 customers were taken for $67,000. this year, 67 customers have lost 78 grand. remember, the scammers had detailed information about his peco accounts. >> there's been no breach of your data system. >> no one is in there poaching and then using it to take money from your customers? >> we have absolutely not will breach of our security system or of our it system, of our customer information system. >> reporter: peco believes the scammers are just guessing about what its residential and business customers may oh. >> when they asked me for the name on the account, i told them my name was sandra o'connor. >> reporter: lisa solis is a bookkeeper for a couple of city bars with a sense of humor. >> it might be my full name sandra day o'connor. >> the name of the first woman on the supreme court. >> when the scammers hit her bar, she knew it was bogus because she says they're on auto pay with the utility but she called back to have a little fun. >> i was really surprised to hear peco's phone greeting. so it through me off little bit. >> reporter: she listen to the scammers pitch and even recorded it. listen carefully. >> the only way we can avoid this disconnection is making a minimum payment for $495. >> are you able to make the payment? >> i'm not -- i'm not sure. >> peco says it knows of electric, water and gas utility customers across the country and canada being chased by scammers. it has a scam alert page on its website claims it has stuffed info into customer mailings and has even posted warnings on the electronic billboard a top its headquarters. >> many of these scams are beginning offshore. dominican republic, mexico and some other places. >> reporter: lisa says she takes for the small business owners and the elderly who could be taken by these scammers. so when she got one on the phone, she made him go through his pitch over and over again. >> you made him go back and ba back. >> i made him go back and back at least six times. >> are you getting pleasure out of this? >> it was hilarious. >> reporter: green dot the maker of money packard removed the cards from the market for awhile when they realized swindlers were abusing them. they're lookin looking stockbros complaint but they recovered a thousand dollars for him. rite aid says it too is aware of these types
