this thing is raging on the 200 block of smith school road. it started around 8:30 tonight. skyfox over the inferno. crews still do not have this under control. so far though fire dispatch is report nothing injuries to any people or animals. we of course will stay on top this and bring you the latest updates as they come into the newsroom. another big story we are tracking tonight. chaos on the streets of north philadelphia. four people shot. two of the victims dead at the scene. the others taken to the hospital and tonight whoever pulled that trigger is still out there. thanks for joining us i'm iain page. >> i'm dawn timmeney. the shooting happened at the end of the school day while children were coming home. let's get out to fox 29's sean wilson live outside of police headquarters for more. >> reporter: i talked to man who lives on corner between a school and the neighborhood where that shooting happened. he is a father and let me tell you i could honestly feel that man's pain and don't night. that concern is growing because the gunmen are still out there. >> my kids had to cowell to actually one passed bodies on the ground. >> reporter: edward smallwood lives on the 1100 block of west styles street in north philly. where someone fired nearly two dozen shots shooting four people. two of them are dead. >> my mind is just like everywhere right now, you know what i mean, have i kids in the house. four of them, you know what i mean? three minutes earlier maybe they could have been shot. >> reporter: dozens of police responded to the seen at harrison plaza public housing around 3:30 this afternoon. they transported three of the victims to the hospital. police say one victim drove himself there. >> we had four individuals standing there. we believe some someone came east from this location and started firing. one shooter maybe two. >> reporter: homicide captain james clark says the victims are all men between the ages of 24 and 30. two were pronounced dead at the hospital. two others remained in critical but stable condition late this evening. pill bottles were scattered near the area cordoned off by crime scene tape but police con firm if they had anything to do witness shooting. council president darrell clark was also at the scene. >> our numbers are trending down, um, but all it takes is a very violent week or two and it's been a pretty violent week over the last several days. >> reporter: smallwood watched from his back door pointerring out there's a school across the street and kids were coming home as this happened. >> no one thinks of that, man. we need to get this together. what are we doing? how far are we getting with this? serious seriously. >> reporter: and police believe shooters got away in a small gray suv they believe was park nearby. tonight they have not recovered either gun used in the shooting. dawn. >> thanks, shawnette. now to story you will only see on fox tonight. an 80-year-old mugging victim tucking to fox 29 about bold m mugging a tack all caught on individual i don't. with no regard for her age or gender. a man on bicycle sped by and stole her purse. >> then she went down. but she is not out. tonight she's talking hoping that the bad guy gets caught. she did talk with our dave schratwieser live in hunting park tonight, dave. >> reporter: iain, 80-year-old elizabethville lard was less than 100 feet from her front doorstep when she was attacked and robbed. cameras caught the whole thing on tape as the thief made off with her purse. tonight she says she gave chase for about a block before she gave up. >> he saw me coming, i guess report roar surveillance cameras were rolling as 80-year-old elizabethville lard was walking home from a local store. sudden al man on bike attacked and robbed her. >> he came over and with that bike and knocked me down. report roar elizabeth says the bicycle bandit took off with her purse containing $200 in cash. her checkbook, her id, two phones and her heart medication. >> i'm chasing him to sixth street. i chased him but i couldn't catch him. >> reporter: it happened in the 500 block of hunting park avenue. elizabeth had just stop at the imperial garden take out restaurant and was heading for home. >> for this coward to approach her that way and take what she had, that's despicable. >> this is busy street with lots of traffic. people walk back and forth to the local supermarket and stores here. carmen fernandez had just left the store monday night when she heard about the robbery. >> it scares me. you know -- >> i notice you keep your purse protected very well. >> yes. i do. >> i worry. i'm always paying attention. even though i wear headphones i still pay attention to my surroundings. >> reporter: as for the robbery suspect elizabeth says, he belongs behind bars. >> i ain't going to lie to you. if i'd had a gun i'd shot him. i would have shot him in the head so help me god. >> reporter: now elizabeth was not seriously hurt. she had to close her checking account, replace her heart medication and those two cell phones. if you have any information on that suspect, you can call east detectives. dawn? >> all right, dave, thank you. a north philadelphia community comes together tonight to remember a man who's life was tragically cut short from gun violence. the crowd here is honoring 37-year-old darrell mitchell. police say someone shot him over and over again on the i wasn't 800 block of north taney street. his dog was also shot. so far no arrests. >> montgomery county judge considering whether bill cosby's testimony from a civil case deposition can be used in his sexual assault trial. prosecutors and the defense argued their case during a pretrial hearing today in norristown. that decade old deposition includes cosby's damming confessions about sex and drugs. cosby is accused of drugging and molesting a former temple university employee at his home in 2004. the trial beginning today for three teenaged girls charged in connection with deadly bathroom fight. prosecutors say it was last year wilmington, delaware, it led to the death of 16-year-old emmy joyner francis the trial during the overnight. and into the early morning hours. so the very early part of that morning rush will we'll be seeing red heavy rain indeed. the center of our area of low pressure is in the midwest but all this shower activity and storms are moving toward the northeast. so as we look at our radar on ultimate doppler, heavier rain moving into central delaware where you see the bright yellow and even into cumberland county in new jersey. so it's all moving up from the southwest and once it moves in, it means hours of rain. there's a flood watch in effect through tomorrow evening for the poconos, northampton county in the lehigh valley and also mercer county including trenton into central and north jersey for about one to 2-inches of rain. now, overnight tonight, moderate to heavy rain right into the early morning hours. isolated thunderstorms you may hear a few rumbles of thunder. and winds gusting between 30 and 40 miles an hour. so wind driven rain a lot of shaking going on during the overnight and another round of rain coming our way possibly tomorrow afternoon. we'll talk more about that coming up later in the broadcast but for now we'll send it back to you. >> kathy feltonville sandwich shop. police just released this surveillance video. a masked man stormed into he will punta goes behind the counter and points a gun at the employee and demands cash. this happened last monday night. philadelphia police are searching for group of teenaged boys accused of abducting and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl. while fight ending the a attackers is a top priority it's not the only issue. boys assaulted the girl at abandoned home in hunting park last night. neighbors say it was sealed up but it still had openings. licenses and and inspections says homeowners are responsible for sealing up vacant properties. so if you see a home like this, call 311 to report it. eleventh person has died from subway explosion in st. petersburg, russia. more than 40 others were injured in the blast hours after the blast. police found and dive fused another device at another st. petersburg station. right now police suspect a lone suicide bomber could be behind the attack. but no one has claimed responsibility for the violence meanwhile russian president vladimir putin laid flowers at a memorial fort victims after the attack. the president was already visiting st. petersburg at the time of the explosion. the aclu is stepping in to a berks county school district battle over where a transgender student can use locker or bathrooms on campus. the group filed a motion today to defense the boyertown area school district and its policy which allows transgender students to use locker and restrooms of their choice. district was sued last month by two conservative groups on behalf of another family in the district saying that the policy violates other students privacy rights. now to south jersey, where there were two suspicious acts reported in less than 24 hours. one this time last night. the other just this afternoon. >> strangers drove up to children approaching them while they were walking. it all happened in black wooder, camden county and that's where we find fox 29's chris o'connell live with the very latest. chris? >> reporter: i tell you iain and dawn it doesn't get much creepier than this. a guy in a white van coming up to children here in gloucester township asking them if they need a ride home. it's not only happened once, but twice in the last two days. here are the details. the latest incident happening this afternoon on the corner of fairmount avenue and estelle avenue here in blackwood where is a 12-year-old boy says a man in a white van approached him. the boy didn't say anythig, but that boy took off. police actually say that van reversed towards the boy before taking off. now, just 16 hours earlier, this is just about this time last night, about a mile away, 17-year-old girl was walking near the attorney of black horse pike and prospect avenue when a man in a white window less van honked his horn, pulled over and asked her if she needed a ride home. well the girl ran home. she was alarmed enough to call police. parents in the township very concerned. >> just scary. just to know that that is local here in this area especially like a good enabled. i mean we're right down the street from the police. the park. like, kids come out all the ti time. >> it's heart working because you think about your kids every second of the day, and unfortunately you can't be there every second of the day for them whether you're at work or they're at school, things just happen and out of your control. >> reporter: here's the description in the first case. he's being described as white male, mid 30s black hooded sweatshirt is the identifying marks his left tooth appeared to be crooked or -- there wasn't a blemish or a mole on the right side of his chin. and he has a raspy voice. now, here is the interesting part. police say although the vehicles are the same, these happened win 16 hours of one another. they do not believe these incidents are connected. but they are asking anyone with any information on these incidents or it's happened to them please call gloucester township police. >> thanks, chris. stat trooper hurt in serious crash in new jersey this happened about 3:30 this afternoon on under state 78 in warren township. took emergency crews more than half an hour to get the trooper out of the car before he was then flown to a hospital. the extent of his injuries is not trooper and critically injuring a second one will go on trial tomorrow. today a judge ruled that prosecutors could use eric frein's video taped confession as evidence. frein could face the death sentence to he's convicted of killing corporal byron dixon shooting trooper alex douglas. >> two suspects charged in the shooting death avenue 13-year-old shot last month as he ordered take our food at a restaurant in hunting park. police say 19-year-old tamir johnson was the shooter. they also charged with 18-year-old christopher sutherland in the death of cass zero davis. surveillance video helped them identify the suspects. the father of a two-year-old quakertown boy who accidentally shot himself to death with ace dad's gun is sentenced to jail time. twenty seven-year-old mike hal wiley pleaded guilty today in bucks county court and sentenced to almost one to almost two years in jail. prosecutors say wiley left a loaded handgun in a bedroom where the child had gone to watch winnie the pooh last september. wiley's attorney says his client is already serving a live sentence and will never recover emotionally. in north philadelphia, school goes on lock down as police search for a killer. investigators say a 52-year-old man was shot and killed in the 2300 block of harold street. morning. about 11:30 this- he was shot once in the chest. police temporarily placed saint martin did he parry school in lock down while they sevenned for the shooter but he's still on the loose tonight. step got good news tonight. it says there have been less injuries and complaints from interactions with transit officers and the public. the transit authority found that out during an audit of their new body camera program and they found a 20% decrease in injuries to suspects. a 30% decrease in officer injuries. septa says the body cameras could be responsible whether a change the behavior of officers or discouraged people from mak making false charges. today supreme court nominee neil gorsuch has cleared the first hurdle to get to the supreme court. but several more stand in his ways. the democrats. in response senate republicans are threatening to nuke nuclear against democrats pre paying to filibuster the nomination when it goes to a vote before the full senate. now republicans are considering the so-called nuclear option. that would change senate rules to allow for simple majority vote of 51 to break a filibust filibuster. current rules require 60 senators for confirmation. senator chris kuhns of delaware is one of the democrats oppose gorsuch's confirmation. >> after know now the identity of a man killed in drive by shooting in crescentville. police say 39-year-old donte valentine was waiting at the light on somerdale avenue in the boulevard yesterday morning when someone drove up beside him and opened fire. the victim attempted to drive off but crashed. police still don't have suspect and they're not sure if he was targeted. former physicalled district attorney lynne abraham is suing to get rid of her successor. abraham along the philadelphia attorney sued da seth williams asking a judge to force him out of office. last month, williams was indicted light just opened a hub on kensington avenue and they're trying to change the stereo typical view of the neighbor. >> we're going to be creating murals out of this space. and other public art projects. we're also going to be providing social services, behavioral health services, and other types of programming. >> reporter: newest hub opened after the new kensington cdc applied and the owner of the building who runs a market next door offered up the space. they wanted something else positive on the block. after challenging artists alvin toll one of the artist who's will be teaching to show me his skills i also challenge the belief that bringing access to art will change a neighborhood. >> in this enabled a lot of people call eight forgot tepp neighbor. >> reporter: why do all of this here. >> it's easy to go into community that's already beautiful and already established. but to come into a community of this -- this is why we are here. this is what mural arts basis its they want to change the story line. >> there are folks that are doing such great work on their blocks, neighbor to neighbor, you know, every day kind of shifting the story. >> ♪ >> reporter: as alvin connelled with the challenge to show me the neighborhood through his eyes and our segment theme i went outside and briefly saw both sides of what inspired the hub. >> five seconds out the door, i was approached by an older woman asking for food that she clearly needed. but one minute later, she also showed the appreciation that came from someone listening and offering even temporary help. >> these streets of north philadelphia. four people shot. two of the victims dead at the scene. the others taken to the hospital and tonight whoever pulled that trigger is still out there. thanks for joining us i'm iain page. >> i'm dawn timmeney. the shooting happened at the end of the school day while children were coming home. let's get out to fox 29's sean wilson live outside of police headquarters for more. >> reporter: i talked to man who lives on corner between a school and the neighborhood where that shooting happened. he is a father and let me tell you i could honestly feel that man's pain and don't night. that concern is growing because the gunmen are still out there. >> my kids had to cowell to actually one passed bodies on the ground. >> reporter: edward smallwood lives on the 1100 block of west styles street in north philly. where someone fired nearly two dozen shots shooting four people. two of them are dead. >> my mind is just like everywhere right now, you know what i mean, have i kids in the house. four of them, you know what i mean? three minutes earlier maybe they could have been shot. >> reporter: dozens of police responded to the seen at harrison plaza public housing around 3:30 this afternoon. they transported three of the victims to the hospital. police say one victim drove himself there. >> we had four individuals standing there. we believe some someone came east from this location and started firing. one shooter maybe two. >> reporter: homicide captain james clark says the victims are all men between the ages of 24 and 30. two were pronounced dead at the hospital. two others remained in critical but stable condition late this evening. pill bottles were scattered near the area cordoned off by crime scene tape but police con firm if they had anything to do witness shooting. council president darrell clark was also at the scene. >> our numbers are trending down, um, but all it takes is a very violent week or two and it's been a pretty violent week over the last several days. >> reporter: smallwood watched from his back door pointerring out there's a school across the street and kids were coming home as this happened. >> no one thinks of that, man. we need to get this together. what are we doing? how far are we getting with this? serious seriously. >> reporter: and police believe shooters got away in a small gray suv they believe was park nearby. tonight they have not recovered either gun used in the shooting. dawn. >> thanks, shawnette. now to story you will only see on fox tonight. an 80-year-old mugging victim tucking to fox 29 about bold m mugging a tack all caught on individual i don't. with no regard for her age or gender. a man on bicycle sped by and stole her purse. >> then she went down. but she is not out. tonight she's talking hoping that the bad guy gets caught. she did talk with our dave schratwieser live in hunting park tonight, dave. >> reporter: iain, 80-year-old elizabethville lard was less than 100 feet from her front doorstep when she was attacked and robbed. cameras caught the whole thing on tape as the thief made off with her purse. tonight she says she gave chase for about a block before she gave up. >> he saw me coming, i guess report roar surveillance cameras were rolling as 80-year-old elizabethville lard was walking home from a local store. sudden al man on bike attacked and robbed her. >> he came over and with that bike and knocked me down. report roar elizabeth says the bicycle bandit took off with her purse containing $200 in cash. her checkbook, her id, two phones and her heart medication. >> i'm chasing him to sixth street. i chased him but i couldn't catch him. >> reporter: it happened in the 500 block of hunting park avenue. elizabeth had just stop at the imperial garden take out restaurant and was heading for home. >> for this coward to approach her that way and take what she had, that's despicable. >> this is busy street with lots of traffic. people walk back and forth to the local supermarket and stores here. carmen fernandez had just left the store monday night when she heard about the robbery. >> it scares me. you know -- >> i notice you keep your purse protected very well. >> yes. i do. >> i worry. i'm always paying attention. even though i wear headphones i still pay attention to my surroundings. >> reporter: as for the robbery suspect elizabeth says, he belongs behind bars. >> i ain't going to lie to you. if i'd had a gun i'd shot him. i would have shot him in the head so help me god. >> reporter: now elizabeth was not seriously hurt. she had to close her checking account, replace her heart medication and those two cell phones. if you have any information on that suspect, you can call east detectives. dawn? >> all right, dave, thank you. a north philadelphia community comes together tonight to remember a man who's life was tragically cut short from gun violence. the crowd here is honoring 37-year-old darrell mitchell. police say someone shot him over and over again on the i wasn't 800 block of north taney street. his dog was also shot. so far no arrests. >> montgomery county judge considering whether bill cosby's testimony from a civil case deposition can be used in his sexual assault trial. prosecutors and the defense argued their case during a pretrial hearing today in norristown. that decade old deposition includes cosby's damming confessions about sex and drugs. cosby is accused of drugging and molesting a former temple university employee at his home in 2004. the trial beginning today for three teenaged girls charged in connection with deadly bathroom fight. prosecutors say it was last year wilmington, delaware, it led to the death of 16-year-old emmy joyner francis the trial is expected to last two weeks. on your radar tonight get those windshield wipers ready. the rain is back. you need that umbrella as well. it's raining as we take live look over south philadelphia. it's only going come down harder though as the night goes on. the big question, kathy, will it be another sloppy morning rush. >> um-hmm. it certainly will be. we're talking about very heavy rain during the overnight. and into the early morning hours. so the very early part of that morning rush will we'll be seeing red heavy rain indeed. the center of our area of low pressure is in the midwest but all this shower activity and storms are moving toward the northeast. so as we look at our radar on ultimate doppler, heavier rain moving into central delaware where you see the bright yellow and even into cumberland county in new jersey. so it's all moving up from the southwest and once it moves in, it means hours of rain. there's a flood watch in effect through tomorrow evening for the poconos, northampton county in the lehigh valley and also mercer county including trenton into central and north jersey for about one to 2-inches of rain. now, overnight tonight, moderate to heavy rain right into the early morning hours. isolated thunderstorms you may hear a few rumbles of thunder. and winds gusting between 30 and 40 miles an hour. so wind driven rain a lot of shaking going on during the overnight and another round of rain coming our way possibly tomorrow afternoon. we'll talk more about that coming up later in the broadcast but for now we'll send it back to you. >> kathy feltonville sandwich shop. police just released this surveillance video. a masked man stormed into he will punta goes behind the counter and points a gun at the employee and demands cash. this happened last monday night. philadelphia police are searching for group of teenaged boys accused of abducting and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl. while fight ending the a attackers is a top priority it's not the only issue. boys assaulted the girl at abandoned home in hunting park last night. neighbors say it was sealed up but it still had openings. licenses and and inspections says homeowners are responsible for sealing up vacant properties. so if you see a home like this, call 311 to report it. eleventh person has died from subway explosion in st. petersburg, russia. more than 40 others were injured in the blast hours after the blast. police found and dive fused another device at another st. petersburg station. right now police suspect a lone suicide bomber could be behind the attack. but no one has claimed responsibility for the violence meanwhile russian president vladimir putin laid flowers at a memorial fort victims after the attack. the president was already visiting st. petersburg at the time of the explosion. the aclu is stepping in to a berks county school district battle over where a transgender student can use locker or bathrooms on campus. the group filed a motion today to defense the boyertown area school district and its policy which allows transgender students to use locker and restrooms of their choice. district was sued last month by two conservative groups on behalf of another family in the district saying that the policy violates other students privacy rights. now to south jersey, where there were two suspicious acts reported in less than 24 hours. one this time last night. the other just this afternoon. >> strangers drove up to children approaching them while they were walking. it all happened in black wooder, camden county and that's where we find fox 29's chris o'connell live with the very latest. chris? >> reporter: i tell you iain and dawn it doesn't get much creepier than this. a guy in a white van coming up to children here in gloucester township asking them if they need a ride home. it's not only happened once, but twice in the last two days. here are the details. the latest incident happening this afternoon on the corner of fairmount avenue and estelle avenue here in blackwood where is a 12-year-old boy says a man in a white van approached him. the boy didn't say anythig, but that boy took off. police actually say that van reversed towards the boy before taking off. now, just 16 hours earlier, this is just about this time last night, about a mile away, 17-year-old girl was walking near the attorney of black horse pike and prospect avenue when a man in a white window less van honked his horn, pulled over and asked her if she needed a ride home. well the girl ran home. she was alarmed enough to call police. parents in the township very concerned. >> just scary. just to know that that is local here in this area especially like a good enabled. i mean we're right down the street from the police. the park. like, kids come out all the ti time. >> it's heart working because you think about your kids every second of the day, and unfortunately you can't be there every second of the day for them whether you're at work or they're at school, things just happen and out of your control. >> reporter: here's the description in the first case. he's being described as white male, mid 30s black hooded sweatshirt is the identifying marks his left tooth appeared to be crooked or -- there wasn't a blemish or a mole on the right side of his chin. and he has a raspy voice. now, here is the interesting part. police say although the vehicles are the same, these happened win 16 hours of one another. they do not believe these incidents are connected. but they are asking anyone with any information on these incidents or it's happened to them please call gloucester township police. >> thanks, chris. stat trooper hurt in serious crash in new jersey this happened about 3:30 this afternoon on under state 78 in warren township. took emergency crews more than half an hour to get the trooper out of the car before he was then flown to a hospital. the extent of his injuries is not apartment complex last night when the waters rushed in. the national weather service says the weather is improveing but flooding remains a big concern. the man accused of killing a pennsylvania state trooper and critically injuring a second one will go on trial tomorrow. today a judge ruled that prosecutors could use eric frein's video taped confession as evidence. frein could face the death sentence to he's convicted of killing corporal byron dixon shooting trooper alex douglas. >> two suspects charged in the shooting death avenue 13-year-old shot last month as he ordered take our food at a restaurant in hunting park. police say 19-year-old tamir johnson was the shooter. they also charged with 18-year-old christopher sutherland in the death of cass zero davis. surveillance video helped them identify the suspects. the father of a two-year-old quakertown boy who accidentally shot himself to death with ace dad's gun is sentenced to jail time. twenty seven-year-old mike hal wiley pleaded guilty today in bucks county court and sentenced to almost one to almost two years in jail. prosecutors say wiley left a loaded handgun in a bedroom where the child had gone to watch winnie the pooh last september. wiley's attorney says his client is already serving a live sentence and will never recover emotionally. in north philadelphia, school goes on lock down as police search for a killer. investigators say a 52-year-old man was shot and killed in the 2300 block of harold street. morning. about 11:30 this- he was shot once in the chest. police temporarily placed saint martin did he parry school in lock down while they sevenned for the shooter but he's still on the loose tonight. step got good news tonight. it says there have been less injuries and complaints from interactions with transit officers and the public. the transit authority found that out during an audit of their new body camera program and they found a 20% decrease in injuries to suspects. a 30% decrease in officer injuries. septa says the body cameras could be responsible whether a change the behavior of officers or discouraged people from mak making false charges. today supreme court nominee neil gorsuch has cleared the first hurdle to get to the supreme court. but several more stand in his ways. the democrats. in response senate republicans are threatening to nuke nuclear against democrats pre paying to filibuster the nomination when it goes to a vote before the full senate. now republicans are considering the so-called nuclear option. that would change senate rules to allow for simple majority vote of 51 to break a filibust filibuster. current rules require 60 senators for confirmation. senator chris kuhns of delaware is one of the democrats oppose gorsuch's confirmation. >> after philadelphia. prosecutors say the lindenwold teen's plot involved using a sniper to shoot the pope during mass and setting off explosive devices nearby. he's now facing up to 15 years in prison. we know now the identity of a man killed in drive by shooting in crescentville. police say 39-year-old donte valentine was waiting at the light on somerdale avenue in the boulevard yesterday morning when someone drove up beside him and opened fire. the victim attempted to drive off but crashed. police still don't have suspect and they're not sure if he was targeted. former physicalled district attorney lynne abraham is suing to get rid of her successor. abraham along the philadelphia attorney sued da seth williams asking a judge to force him out of office. last month, williams was indicted owner of the building who runs a market next door offered up the space. they wanted something else positive on the block. after challenging artists alvin toll one of the artist who's will be teaching to show me his skills i also challenge the belief that bringing access to art will change a neighborhood. >> in this enabled a lot of people call eight forgot tepp neighbor. >> reporter: why do all of this here. >> it's easy to go into community that's already beautiful and already established. but to come into a community of this -- this is why we are here. this is what mural arts basis its
