Today Police Department if id and prosecutors charged that mother, 28yearold heaven richardson with inn dangering the welfare of a child. Good samaritan walking to Port Richmond spotted the woman tuesday. He called police and when officers arrived, the woman ran from the scene leaving her oneyearold son. They found her hiding under a truck nearby. Police say she was high on narcotics. That child is now with another family member. Imagine looking outside of your home and seeing this. Reporter this is the mess steve found right out back of his home in tacony thursday, a big pile of rotting tires dumped in broad daylight in the 5700 block of josephine street. This morning my wife was on the computer and she heard some noises in the alley. She went to the kitchen and look out, and she noticed white pick up was driving away. Reporter he says the mysterious white pickup truck disappeared down the block. When his wife went to investigate further, she saw this 3foot high pile of tires had been left behind. I couldnt believe how many tires. Its got to be at least 50 or more. Reporter his wife called police to report the Illegal Dumping. Called the citys 311 hotline. He says police never responded to his home and he didnt exactly like what he heard from the 311 operator about cleaning the tires up. When they change tires they charge you 6 fee per tire for disposal. They go and dump these thing, okay, so they pocked thaw money. Police tell us the owner was cleaning out the vacant property when they found a womans body. Officers tell us the body had been there for some time. Southwest detectives are now investigating along with medical examiner. The family of a man in a wheelchair shot and killed by Wilmington Police is now suing the Police Department and the city. The civil rights lawsuit filed today in superior court claims that officers involved in the september shooting of Jeremy Mcdole file 58ed use of force policies. Officers end countered mcdole after a 911 call came in about a man who had shot himself and was still armed. A bystanders phone video showed police repeatedly telling mcdole to drop his weapon and raise his hands. It shows mcdole reaching toward his waist before shots erupted. Authorities say they recovered a happened gun near mcdoles body but the lawsuit claims he was not armed. These pulled off a literal smash and grab at a highend Clothing Store in rittenhouse square. Congressman patrick meehan, Mike Fitzpatrick and Brendon Boyle writing to the department of navy hoping to learn about illnesses that stem from ground water contamination. Reports from the areas near the former Naval Air Warfare Center in warminster an former Naval Air Station joint reserve base in horsham high levels of toxic chemical compounds were found in public and private water wells near those sites. The congressmen want to know how those chemicals were detected and when and also want to learn what steps were taken to inform residents of the well contamination. All right. And 39 million to create more than two dozen socalled community schools. Which would add Neighborhood Health and social Service Programs to the Traditional School model. We can give our citizens all of those things with just one tax. I know that one tax can make some very wealthy and very powerful people very very upset. But ive seen this council take on special interests before. I know together we can do it again. Reporter it wont be easy. Under the kenney plan the city would add 3cent per ounce levee on nondiet sodas, sports drinks and sweetened juices and teas. The tax to be paid by the distributor of those drinks. The folks who deliver those drinks, theyre blasting the tax as a job killer. Its punitive to one industry. Its regressive. It sends a terrible message to business to stay away from philadelphia. We believe if this passes people will do the same thing theyre doing with cigarettes. Theyre going to take a short ride to the suburbs or over to jersey to save two or 3 on their purchase. Reporter its likely the distributors would pass along the tax hike to restaurants and stores that sell sugary drinks and they would pass the higher costs on to consumers.
