steve d.: it has been nearly two years now since that massive coal ash spill. a pipe under a coal ash wood goon from duke ruptured. tonight, the energy company is giving us an inside look at the cleanup of the power plant. we have been following the story since it broke in 2014 and we town of eden. >> we got a look at the whole operation today of what it takes to close down a plant. they have to empty out these huge lagoons and ship the contents out by the train loads. almost two years ago, the [indiscernible] risk posed by duke energy. all of these lagoons were on line and filled with toxic sludge and sitting right next to water sources. back in 2014, which sent all of the toxic sludge into the dan river. duke had to dry this out and excavate it and store it. >> we made significant problems last year moving coal off-site. we expected to exponentially increase that with our rail a system -- rail system now in place. >> much of this is being shipped out by trains into landfills in virginia. the other half of the ash, about one and a half million tons, are being stored here on site. energy right now. this is the most important thing that many of us have worked on for several years right now, and we have an army of engineers and technical staff who work at this site. >> the question is, what will plans like this have been planned at three of them, but they have not finalized plans of four duke's 10 other facilities. folks who live here can weigh in at public hearings in february and march. in eden, jon camp, abc 11. steve d.: new tonight, six of the 19 people that the durham being violent criminals have been tracked it down now. this began on january 7. all three individuals drew a there was enough of the violence. there are 19 specific people that the durham police department are targeting and six of those 19 people have been arrested. they tell us some of them were not tell us exactly how many. new at 6:00, the wheels are in tisha: a member of the agricultural department is asking two individuals to be banned from agricultural events there. if you recall, two sex offenders were at the fair last year. and late today, a disciplinary panel admitted that there was [indiscernible] a woman who wrongly convicted an inmate. she violated a rule to help free joseph [indiscernible] he received the lowest form of punishment. steve d.: 300 brand-new jobs of 1500 new jobs across the state. that is the breakdown that governor pat mccrory introduced. we had chopper 11 hd flying over the area today. the governor said the train yard train cars between west and eastern north carolina. tisha: a mother in the hospital, shot in the face. her son, under arrest. steve d.: the incident happened near this airsoft -- this hair salon. >> we are live on the scene with the details. we have just learned the salon owner who everyone around here calls miss d. has been life lighted to chapel hill. there is one eyewitness who watched the bloodshed. she was the woman who was holding on to the salon owner on the ground right after this shooting. listen to this. >> how could he do that? to his own mother? he did not have any kind of her -- any kind of remorse. he didn't have any kind of feelings. he just walked away. i kept telling her, i don't what you do die, and she kept saying, i don't want to die, i don't want to die. >> this eyewitness says she had pain for miss d., and around 1:45 this afternoon, the salon owner's son walked through the front door and he shot his mother in the face, a single gunshot is what eyewitnesses are saying. they ran to the back door, he ran past them, and they all came back into the salon. he acknowledged, yes, this is my mother. he walked back out to the parking lot, according to witnesses. they said he had a handgun in his car. there are other family members who have shown up to the scene in the past hour here. police continue to process this scene inside the salon. the sun has not been identified, neither has the mother. he has not been charged yet. but again, the salon owner, miss d., has been life lighted -- life lighted to chapel hill. nicole carr, abc 11, eyewitness news. tisha: a heartbreaking interview with that eyewitness. nicole, thank you. and hoverboards banned. n.c. state in a letter today signed concerns regarding the hoverboards' ion batteries. students are prohibited from using or being in the possession month, duke and north carolina university already have similar policies. steve d.: and a vigil is being held right now to curb gun violence. tisha: and a local pine grove baptist church. community members says that the church has been rezoned and now the property will not allow churches. they will not be able to expand, so they are fighting tonight to have that reversed. in durham now, members of the tisha: elaina athans is live at city hall where a vigil continues right now. elaina? elaina: yeah, tisha, there are a number of vigils that have continued. tonight we have heard from clergy as well as family members still grieving over the loss of their loved ones. this comes after a week after city officials announced to reduce crimes in this city. about 100 officers will work together in a new unit. organizers say it is a step in the right direction. >> anytime you can put more boots on the ground, so to speak, more officers in the community, but to they have to do more than just show up. they have to talk to people and elaina: we will take you back live to the vigil right outside of city hall. the group is calling for peace in the community right now. there is about 150 people gathered here to honor and remember the victims who were killed last year, 42 people in the city of durham, and among the people that i spotted in the into a patrol car. one person jumped out of the car when it crashed right here your the university of vickers. you can see that was the person that they took off to custody. police are still looking third time since 1851. this is only the third time that there is a hurricane in the atlantic ocean in january. look at that well-defined eye. it is unusual to be hit by a tropical storm or hurricane in the summer, but much less in january. there are hurricane warnings for those islands as the core of the storm goes overhead. it will ve further north into the cold waters of the atlantic. temperatures this evening, they will settle back into the mid to upper 30's by sunrise. has been. temperatures falling pretty today. 20's. twice seven at rdu, 27 in fayetteville. but look at the increase, especially in the this storm system is getting organized. there is rain over louisiana and the gulf of mexico. it is going to wind up the east coast rapidly. it is going to spread that rain in here very quickly during the day. fortinet, iowa morning temperatures are about 10 upper 30's and lower 30's here and there. there may be some sunshine right around sunrise for a couple hours, but it clears out quickly. it does cloud up and temperatures will get to around 50. the cold air may fall slightly as those clouds spread in. here we go, timing it out with their first alert predictor. have a lot of sunshine, and we could have a beautiful morning across the region. at least some clouds though come in during midday . it gets cold and cloudy in a hurry. certainly, it spreads in in the inch or maybe a little less in spots. it is going to be a quick hitter, but a pretty good, soaking rain. it then moves out and another cold front comes on them. we are going to be in the 50's and behind that on sunday, temperatures really go down, especially into monday. upper 40's and low 50's for tomorrow, maybe upper 50's for some areas. then we will have a rainy evening. saturday night is partly sunny, upper 50's. cloudy on sunday, and 40's. then it clears out and is brisk for martin luther king jr.'s day. despite that sunshine, it is going to be cold next week. tisha: we like the sun
