sorry if i sound a little bit stuffy. steve: i tell you, i think a lot of cloud cover and temperatures are so mild. t-shirts. not only today but tomorrow as well. let's get right to it. temperatures in the low 40s. typically in the mid-30s. a little bit milder, 45 in roxboro, 39 in sanford, 44, fayetteville. we're going to see clouds throughout the day, a little thicker cloud deck later in the day. but regardless, temperatures on our model, lower 60s, going for a spike between 2:00 and 4:00 getting around 65. the normal high, 56. next week cooler and some rain. anthony: the supreme court affecting our primary election, won't stop an order forcing lawmakers to draw a new congressional map. caitlin: that means congressional elections will happen in june. heather waliga tells us what that means for voters. heather: newly drawn congressional maps could stay the change. even though democrats complain it puts republicans at an advantage. advantage. >> they know the map they've drawn is designed to produce democrats in a county of republicans. heather: republican representative david lewis was among those in charge of drawing the new maps. >> i think electing republicans is better than electing democrats, so i drew this map in a way to help foster what i think is better for the country. heather: he and other considering race at all this time around. republicans maintain they're following court order. >> i believe we complied with the letter and the spirit of the court decision. heather: voters will now cast their ballots on two separate dates. the state board of elections now scrambling to figure out how to minimize confusion at the polls. >> i think we set ourselves up to fail. caitlin: and that was heather waliga with that report. the supreme court's decision means house primary elections will now take place on june 7th. the presidential primaries will still go on with its plans. anthony: and a shooting that hurt an 18 month old boy, deputies have charged marian ramey. he was shot inside a home day care on great bend drive tuesday afternoon. the boy went to the hospital for treatment and has been released and sent home. the child was not the target and the shooting does not appear to caitlin: people have turned out to pay their final respects to supreme court justice antonin scalia. if you look behind me, you can see long lines outside of the great hall. today, a funeral mass will be held. president barack obama and his wife michelle visited scalia's casket yesterday. however, they will not attend the funeral today and that's drawing criticism from republicans. the white house says it's a respectful arrangement given the president's large security detail. however, vice president joe biden will attend. the president carried out a binder of background information on several potential candidates, detailing their professional careers, records and experience. governor mccrory paid respect to justice scalia yesterday. he tweeted out this yesterday. polls for the republican primary and democratic caucuses in nevada. in south carolina, donald trump appears to hold a commanding lead. but the victory would prove a painful blow to ted cruz whose consistent focus on christian values and southern roots are expected to give him an edge. caitlin: the red cross helped two people this morning after a house fire. we'll have details coming off. this is just off university drive. the crews say the fire started in the basement and it was contained there but there was smoke damage to the upper two levels. so far, no injuries being reported. anthony: developing this morning, rocky mount police looking for a shooter who injured a 13-year-old girl. police say that teen was inside her home when she was hit by a bullet on thursday night. investigators say two groups of people got into an argument outside the home when bullets started flying. an eyewitness says the teen was shot in her side. greenville and is expected to recover. in durham county, a drive-by shooting that injured this morning woman, dorothy holloway was in her home when a drive-by shooting occurred. her leg had to be amputeatedamputated. caitlin: straight ahead on eyewitness news, we'll tell up trying to give access to the san bernardino shooters' phones. anthony: and a back lash. how her super bowl performance could affect her upcoming tour. steve: you congressional orders to redraw a map. it comes down to the votes in south carolina in the ballots today, and the republican presidential primary is another test of donald trump's strength as a frontrunner. in the democratic caucuses, it's a test for hillary clinton and racially diverse state. today is a pay-back day for some students in wake county. students on year-round tracks 1, 3 and 4 will head to school today to make up for monday's snow day. students on traditional calendars will have to make up the lost day on monday, april 25th. caitlin: new this morning, a possible compromise in the standoff with apple. software is too dangerous to create because it would threaten the privacy of millions of customers. new details about a u.s. air strike at an islamic state camp in libya. two staffers who had been held believed to have been killed. libya's government has not confirmed that. fighting bombers confirmed it yesterday near the border. an operant was considered responsible for deadly attacks in tunisia last year. anthony: federal regulators say the agency is calling on the city to develop a comprehensive plan of action. the windy city, gusts up to 70 n chicago, even causing a wall to collapse on one of them. police closed downtown streets yesterday because of that debris deck saying its elevators cannot operate in strong winds. at o'hare airport, 160 flights were canceled due to the high winds. caitlin: my parents live outside of the city in chicago suburbs, and they were expecting in the suburbs wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour yesterday. but they weren't going outside. it was nice there too. for them it was warm temperatures but they couldn't enjoy it. steve: couldn't get out there. out here, our temperatures will be really warm for a couple of days. take advantage, get out. a lot of clouds around, so when is the next active day? it's really going to be tuesday and wednesday. although, we could have a shower around monday. i think tuesday, the highest probability of getting heavier showers around. notice that deep moisture coming our way with a trough out to the west and notice another area of low pressure developing out here. that could bring more rain to the area on wednesday. well to the north of us indicating this would be an all liquid event for us as we go into tuesday and wednesday. a nice weekend, a warm weekend for us. temperatures in the upper 60s. i put a slight chance of a shower in late in the day, especially our western counties as the front comes in. rain is coming, a 30% chance monday. i might put that down to 20%. more clouds on monday and a higher probability tuesday and wednesday of getting rain in here. a little bit cooler too. highs above average on tuesday going into next week. here comes the warmth on sunday. notice we start to cool down monday into tuesday and a little bit warmer again, a little bit of a break as we see temperatures spike briefly before coming down with cooler air as we round out your work week. meantime, live, terminal 2 at rdu, 46 degrees. a little breezy out there, winds coming in from the west at around 13 miles per hour. 40s across the board. a lot warmer than this time yesterday, on average, 15-20 degrees warmer to start our day. it's 22 degrees warmer down there in southern pines, so good exercise weather this morning. we'll see those clouds passing on by. we'll call it variable and cloudy. 61 mid-day, as we get to the mid-60s later on this afternoon. and at times, we could be mostly cloudy, nice and warm and dry as we go throughout the day today. the low 60s. plenty of clouds around today. as we go into the day tomorrow, variably cloudy skies. our western counties late in the day could get a light shower. this front swings on through with little fanfare, other than these clouds. i'll keep a shower chance in for monday. we will cool back down and then we'll watch an area of low pressure developing along this frontal boundary arriving along the front. that means it will bring rain to this area on tuesday. and that particular setup is a winter-style storm but it will be too warm to bring anything other than liquid. slight chance of a shower in the mountains today. higher probability of rain tomorrow. if you're going skiing, i would say today is your best day to do that. obviously a big-time race tomorrow. daytonea 500. the great ruling won't stop a lower court order that demands a new congressional map. the late-night decision means house primary elections won't happen next month as usual, they are set for june. that means voters will hit the polls twice as the presidential they author -- argued that eliminating the districts could cause chaos and should not have to vote for another election cycle. caitlin: president barack obama is urging states to make it easier for people to vote in elections. the president says he wants to focus on voting rights during this election year because the job is to make voting easier, not harder. he made those statements at the annual winter meeting of the national governor's association. that's where our governor pat mccrory is currently in attendance. anthony: in the race for the president, hillary clinton and bernie sanders will face off in squaring off in the south gaining in recent days. hegan hughes, abc news, columbia, south carolina. caitlin: the attorney for two former unc athletes suing the university for coercing them into taking bogus classes, plans to take the case to the state board of appeals. a former basketball player mcfee and arnold didn't do their lawsuit until a year ago. their attorney says the case not only affects unc athletes but college athletes nation wide. anthony: and the sentencing hearing from trevian smith. he's the man accused of killing melissa huggins jones three years ago. his family will be called to testify about his abusive childhood. prison or the deathter being diagnosed with the zika virus. officials won't say who got it or where they lived. they will onlyse who get this never even know they have it, but the biggest danger is for fetuses because the virus is linked to possible birth defects. anthony: a fire destroyed a home in johnston county was accidental, according to authorities. a crew on the scene says that fire started in the rear of the home and quickly spread. firefighters say one person was at home when the fire started. that person was taken to the hospital with minor burns. caitlin: repair work could slow you down if you're in the 40/440 construction zone this weekend. crews are putting a thin layer of asphalt over those deep grooves that have made driving in that work zone difficult. also, they'll be working to lane markings and adding reflective markers. the winter weather and rain news this morning as tropical cyclone winston has made land fall in fiji. this is the most powerful storm to ever hit that nation. they have winds of 100 miles per hour, the equivalent of a category 5 hurricane. the funeral for supreme court justice antonin scalia will be held to be at the basilica of the emac lat conception. it's the largest church. durham police have made an that hurt an 18 month old boy. 26-year-old marion laney, now chargeded with assault of a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by convicted felon. investigators say the toddler was shot while inside a home day care on great bend drive tuesday afternoon. anthony: a heartbreaking story to share about a new york father who died after saving his daughter from a burning home. he carried his nine-year-old daughter to safety and went back inside to look for the rest of his family and never came back out. his wife apparently carried the other two kids out of the home. the nine-year-old girl severely injured with-year-old student. bradley billy died thursday night. his death may be linked to a hazing incident at an off-campus fraternity house. the chapter of alpha pi alpha college and the fraternity's governing body. caitlin: consumer product safety commission issued a warning to manufacturers, importers, and retailers. some models of the self-balancing scooters are prone to catching fire, even exploding. the commission noted 52 reports of fires that users say were caused by hoverboards in 24 states. several airlines have banned hover boards. they are not permitted on public streets and sidewalks in london, and new york city has banned them all together. a whole lot of people who were hoping they have what it takes to go to space, nasa has received a record 18,300 applications for its astronaut candidate training program. that's nearly three times the amount received in 2012. of the thousands who apply, only between eight and 14 people will be chosen. since 1959, there's only the north. so at this point in time, it looks to be an all-liquid event. an area of low pressure upper level low down here, keeping our chances for rain around both days. and after that, i think we'll be a warm weekend for us, slight chance late sunday of getting a shower. you'll see that coming in our graphic in a minute. mid-upper 60s, the warmest day should be tomorrow. rain is coming, a small chance on monday, but more probable as we go into tuesday and wednesday, and a little cooler too, as temperatures go below average, especially on tuesday, mild tomorrow, cooler weather starts to come in, and we'll get a little reprieve as we get some pre-frontal warming on wednesday. the next front comes on in, and temperatures fall as we go through the end of the week. meantime, live look into these throughout the day today and call it variably cloudy skies. area of low pressure gets closer to us tomorrow. may be a spotty shower in the western and northern counties late in the day, but tomorrow evening when the front moves through, again, i can't rule out a stray shower. the best chance for rain on monday will be farther to the south and east closer to the frontal zone. i put a slight chance around the triangle higher probability south and east. the northeast breeze will cool us down, and watching an area of low pressure developing along this front and will come in tuesday, wrapping up the rain chances for everybody. heading out to the mountains to chance of a shower, 20-30%. look at the temperatures in the 40s. 52 for a high temperature in aplacia, a far cry from the single digits last weekend. highs in the 60s, looking good, variably cloudy. another mild one, mid-upper 40s for lows. that means a warm start tomorrow and a warm afternoon at 68. a little cooler monday, mostly cloudy, a shower chance likely, rain tuesday, more showers around wednesday and things dry out as we end out the work week. caitlin: today and tomorrow, can't be those. anthony: pick
