5 on-timetraffic. -timetraffic. our big story this morning, new criminal charges for kwame brown after it was announced he was charged with falsifying his income to get a bank loan. >> federal prosecutors are charging him with violating campaign finance laws and he is due in federal court later this morning. for more now, we turn to fox 5's sherry ly live at federal court. good morning. >> good morning. >> reporter: this is just the first of two court appearances scheduled for kwame brown today here in federal court. he is due at 11:00 this morning on bank fraud charges and then later today, he is expected at d.c. superior court for the latest charges on campaign finance violations. brown's troubles escalated yesterday when he was charged with a misdemeanor count of unlawful cash campaign expenditures during his 2008 campaign. prosecutors say he set autopsy i side account and authorized family members to make with trawls. the former council chair is accused of using some of that money to buy a luxury boat and according to court documents he bought that after applying for a loan that overstated his income by tens of thousands of dollars. the allegations are troubling to council members, some who are now worried about brown and his family. >> what it all boils down to is that we are elected officials but we are human first and we do have a life outside of what we do in city hall. >> i'm sorry to see what happened yesterday to my friend and i hope he and his family are going to be fine. >> reporter: brown was charged in what is called a criminal information which suggests that a plea deal has been reached and that he will be pleading guilty here today. after this, he is expected at d.c. superior court at 1:30 for the campaign violation charges. councilmember mary cheh remains the interim chair until a vote can be held next wednesday by the full council and then an election would be held later. since resigning last -- late we had, that is, brown has not said anything else publicly. that is the latest here at federal court. back to you. >> thank you. looking at more local headlines now, a 7-year-old girl is the third victim to die from a terrible car wreck this week in northern virginia. victoria williams passed with a yesterday at the hospital. her mother dijon williams and five-year-old sister faith were both killed tuesday night when their car hit another car here on lee highway in fairfax. the driver of the other car remains in critical condition. one person is dead after a stabbing at a business park on old meadow road in mclean, virginia. police say it happened yesterday morning at the psychiatric rehabilitation services building, a group that provides day support services for adults with mental illness. 57-year-old grady vickers was killed. a 24-year-old man is now in custody. investigators say both men were clients ever the agency. it was a close call in montgomery county after a child's electric motorcycle went up in flames. tom moise says he was playing basketball in avenel park with his son when it happened. he says one of his son's friends brought their electricky to motorcycle. he says they noticed it was heating up so they parked it. that is when smoke started coming out it was until the whole thing was eventually on fire. he says he is shocked. >> my kids have ridden on. this we thought it was very safe. yeah, it is shocking when you realize that that thing could be -- you have your child on it and could suddenly be in flames, so, yeah, not good. >> the montgomery county fire department quickly came out and controlled the fire. fortunately, no one was hurt. earlier this week, opponents of same-sex marriage in maryland claimed they had enough signatures to put the measurey to avote in the state. now, maryland's board of elections web site shows an unofficial count does indeed exceed the required number. you will require governor martin o'malley signed the same- sex marriage bill into law in march. if the number of signatures on the petition hold, the measure will be on the ballot in november. i aplane's landing aborted at the last minute. it was a close call that could have proved in the northwest part of the country. initial reports indicate 11 people were killed in that bombing. the taliban and al-qaeda are active in that area but no word on who did this. also, a boost for disaster relief and an abortion ban part of a bill to fund the homeland security department. the house approved the measure yesterday. the extra $5 billion in disaster funding was opposed by tea party republicans. the abortion ban involves immigration and customs enforcement or ice. the bill says the agency cannot pay for abortions for illegal immigrant detainees except in certain cases. ice says it is never provided such services in its nine-year history. here is that video i was telling you about. here is the story. the bus driver on the bus, doesn't have his seat belt on. he falls off of his chair during a turn. he reaches up. we'll loop it again. reaches back for the steering wheel to try to get the bus back on course. can't do it, goes right into a house. it happened in carmel, indiana. fortunately no, children were on the bus and no one was inside the house. the driver has since resigned. a plane landing aborted at the last second causing a scare for passengers. an air traffic controller in boston made the quick and possibly life saving call. the delta plane was landing at locate appear airport just as an american airlines flight crossed the runway without authorization. the planes missed each other by just 300 feet. and check out this video. ments a bear captured on camera but not in a place known for bears. this is cape cod, massachusetts. the bear sightings are the talk of this vacation hot spot. it is believed this is the first bear ever on the cape. officials think it swam 500 feet across the canal from the mainland over memorial day weekend. people realize that getting a kid's meal at a fast- food restaurant probably not the hell thiefest thing for them but just how barred are some of the most popular offerings. >> a new study is out from the physician's committee for responsible medicine. brian bolter spoke with the director for nutrition education, susan levin. >> reporter: every parent knows how hard it is because all the kids want are chicken nuggets. the chick-fil-a grilled nuggets meal with fries and chocolate milk is on your list. they're grilled nuggets. at least they're not deep fried. what is the problem with that. >> well, at least but they to have over 1100-milligrams of sodium per serving in that kids meal which is far more than any child should be consuming in one meal and it has as much cholesterol as a big mac. you have to look at the numbers to see if these foods are really healthy or not. >> isn't the sodium a function that i allot of these fast food chains use fidel castro froesen food and you have to use the sodium. >> sure. i think if you go for a fast- food restaurant, can you full well expect to be eating a lot of preservatives. sodium is a preservative. it doesn't give the fast food outlet the right to promote it as a health food. >> mcdoneled's cheeseburger meal with the apples and milk. what is the problem here? >> the problem with that meal is it is incredibly high in fat t gets over 35% of its calories from fat and it gets 14% of those calories from bad fat or saturated fat. that is the fat that leads to heart disease, high cholesterol and some of of the diseases we see trickling down into the childhood population. >> next is the sonic junior burger with apples and apple juice. that is what compared to? >> we are comparing the soppic burger to eating twinkies because it is loaded with sugar. it has that caramel dipping sauce and sugar is an ingredient in the hamburger products so we don't want to see kids eating that much sugar either. >> burger king's hamburger meal with apples and milk. >> in that whole meal, of all the fat in that meal, 40% of it is saturate. you back to that bad fat that leads to heart disease. >> we contacted burger king today and they are disputing your findings. they claim the nutritional value listed in their report doesn't match theirs. any reason why? >> we looked at a whole meal. i think they might be thinking we're looking at just entrees. >> and last is denny's build your own grand slam with egg chits, two condoleezza rices ever turkey bacon and orange juice. >> you have turkey bacon which is a processed meat which is very closely linked to colorectal cancer. so the american institute for cancer research recommends consuming zero processed meats. we don't want to give some kind of carcinogenic food to kids. >> any positive notes that the parents can look to. >> i think that parents should consider the source. the marketing source and if they think they're going to get something healthy at a fast- food restaurant, i think they need to think again and maybe stay home. >> we reached out to all five of the restaurants named in the study as you heard brian say. burger king disputes the finings. denny's septet a statement saying they offer a variety of healthy options on the kids menu. we did not hear back from chick- fil-a, mcdonald's or sonic. >> are you hungry? >> in a way. their children were late to school more than 30 times this year. will their parents face criminal charges. >> we'll get an update on this local case that a lot of people are talking about. plus, it is commencement
