Despite the breakdowns in at the safety issues, metro has no regular investigative dedicated body for investigation. Likewise, the chairman jack evans says hes responding to growing questions about how metro previous leadership was allowing spiralling and disrepair in the system. Evans says metro these questions anymore. He says at some point there is goes be to a day of reckoning about what went on at metro for years. One of the gaping holes in your Safety Department is that although you have people who respond and investigate accidents. In Montgomery County, it is sentencing day for the driver in a crash that killed two High School Graduates last june. Samuel ellis put pleaded guilty in april to two counts of vehicular manslaughter. Prosecutor says ellis and three of his friends just left an under age Drinking Party when the crash occurred. Hes facing up to 33 years behind bars. Fox 5 alexandria limon is in roxboro with this story. That sentencing hearing is still going. Its been a very difficult one to sit through. Very emotional statements to the judge asking for a tough punishment, meanwhile, the prosecutor in this case painted a very disturbing picture of a 19yearold sam ellis who basically painted as an entitled teen who the state says is not remorseful for his actions as were still waiting for the sentencing. The hearing still going. Sam ellis is facing two counts of vehicular manslaughter after he plead guilty in april. About 200 people i would say packed the courtroom. Still in there now waiting to hear the sentencing after ellis killed two other High School Graduates last year, those victims, alex and calvin lee were both only 18 years old. Their families talked about how they were looking forward to going to college. Alexs parents gave very emotional statements. Teens in the audience were in tears speaking. He said alexs ashes are actually in the familys living room and he says he questions how his family will survive. Meanwhile his mother said she does not believe ellis is remorseful and she said in court that the speed and force of the crash crushed her sons face and body. The prosecutor is asking for a 20year sentence with eight years deferred and 12 executed. State attorney Mark Anderson talked about some disturbing phone calls that ellis made from jail to his sister. The prosecutor said that he made statements like if it wasnt for had this b s id be at the beach having a good time. Only he used some other choice language that we will not be repeating on the air. The defense, on the other hand, forgot a leniency. They in fact, say ellis suffered serious brain injuries that this day. Of they say it makes it easy for him to suffer additional brain trauma if anything were to happen to him perhaps, you know, in jail, defense also says that he is, in fact, remorseful and that is why he is behind bars. Now, already serving some of that time, not because its some sort of ploy to make himself look good. Thats something that the state said in court. He really is remorseful in that those phone calls from jail were taken out of context so they are asking for leniency from the judge again we dont have any result yet.
