italy and news that's been breaking all night long and earthquake has leveled towns in the mountains northwest of rome. >> the rush is on to find survivors and unfortunately the death toll is rising. annie yu is in the newsroom tracking latest developments and startling developments coming from the scene. annie. >> good morning to you ladies right now officials are saying 11 people died and there's reports that the number could be closer to 21. of course, that expected to go up as rescue teams race to dig our survivors from rescue area. let's show you footage out of italy right now. hardest hit towns were ama. it rice and kuble. >> the mayor of ama. it rice says the town is not here any more and you can see rescue crews searching for survivors unstable there. and social media blowing up as they're sharing images of shattered towns. this was poeted to twitter and shows amatrice clock to you area round the rumble when the clock face stopped. this posted to twitser shows a block of the small town before the quake on the right and after on the left. theage truly astonishing and devastating and we're hearing reports from rome this morning that the there and an hour after the first quake struck a 5.5 magnitude after shock hit. that's one of 39 reported after shocks and u.s. geological survey saying we can expect many more over the next several hours and possibly days. back to you in the studio, ladies. >> annie yu this morning, thank you. back at home a late-night shooting has kept montgomery country police busy for six hours and within the last 30 minutes we learned the case is a homicide. >> anjali hemphill is live from burtonburtonville with the latest. anjali. >> good morning, ladies, we have learned the victim in this case a man who died in the shooting is a man in his 20s. several police cars still line the street here outside of this home which is right on sandy spring road at the corner of mc new road. you can see crime scene tape surround the home here. and a few minutes ago we watched as investigators walked in a k-9 and we've seen what appears to be a camera flash going off inside the home here. most likely ve taking pictures of the scene. and sky fox took video of what the scene looked like last night when this first happened. you can see several montgomery police, montgomery county police, fire and recuse lining the street outside of the home. they got a report of assault at the house. when arrived they found man in 20s ed in the home suffering from a gunshot wound to upper body. that man was rushed to a local hospital where he died. police are on scene conducting an investigation and intervie interviewing witnesses and at this point they cannot confirm a motive and we don't know much about the victim in the case but they believe the victim and suspects did know each other. that's what we know now. we'll of course bring you the latest once we know more. live in burtonville, anjali hemphill, "fox5 trend hotter the next several days. i'm not going to call this heat wave. i like to see three days where it's usually way up over well into the 0s and heat index of 5 to 104 the next few days. not today. starting tomorrow and into friday. 3 tomorrow feels like 95, 96, 97 okay and then we get to friday it will be 7 and feels more like 100 to maybe as high as 104 or 105 and if we have heat advisory it would be most likely friday okay? there's some indications weekend will c little bit. frontal system will move through and it will provide us a little bit of cooling. we should back off of that extreme heat. couple days, one, two days where we get extreme heat and humidity weekend not so bad. next week we're bumping it back to 94 degrees for monday and tuesday. we should be around 86. next week interesting we have tropical stuff going on. one of those storms may try to come up and run the east coast. we'll have to keep a clear eye on that. too early to tell. high clouds out this morning and drifting on across. loads of sunshine today. again once the sun comes up mostly sunny. obviously warmer highs just a little bit more humidity as the winds will be south at about 5 to 10 burtonsville with the latest own this story. good morning. >> good morning, yes, it's been several hours since the shooting happened and the victim a man who died in his 20s we can still see police officers in the the home. we can see them coming through any evident to lead to why this pan was shot and of course, outside the home you see the crime scene tape, police cars, crime scene unit and place k-9 on the shoulder of the road here. what we know about this sky "fox5" took video of the scene last night what it looked like here after police, fire and rescue responded to the scene. it tonight when investigators got report after salt at this home. they arrived to find a man in 20s inside the house suffering from gunshot wound to upper body. he was taken to a hospital where he unfortunately died. of course, police still on scene here. several hours later they've been interviewing witnesses and coming through any evidence inside and outside the home. right now they cannot confirm why the shooting took place and what the motive was and they do believe the victim and suspect knew each other and they're looking for information if you know anything give them a call. this is along sandy spring road a major roadway through burton burtonsville four lane road and traffic moving okay and if you want to keep a look out in this area if you head this way to work as traffic
