fact dead. paris officials made the announcement this morning 24 hours after the major police raid in the outskirts of paris yesterday. his cousin was also killed in the raid. it's believed she blew herself up with a suicide bomb. now there are serious concerns about how abaaoud, known on french and belgium wanted terror lists, could travel from syria to paris undetected. right here in washington at this hour, a hearing, a house hearing on refugees. this is a live picture you're looking at here. republicans are pushing for a bill to step up security screenings for syrian and iraqis coming into the u.s. at the hearing, grilling questions about the safety of syrian immigrants entering the country. take a listen. >> your question is, is the best we can do good enough? and the fact is it is the most intensive process. it has resulted in denials and holds. it is a redundant, rigorous process to which we put these individuals. >> the question coming from virginia congressman bob goodlaw. the behind the counters. police said one woman would have died except the assassin's gun jammed when he tried to shoot her and she was able to run away. >> now, those clips come less than 24 hours after isis released its own video that some are saying shows a new threat to new york city. nypd says this video is just another piece of highly pro dusd propaganda. you may have already seen it making the rounds on line. it shows isis fighters plus clips of times square and new york taxicabs. the nypd also said there is no current or specific threat to new york at this time. now, our coverage here on melissa, here's the latest on storm team 4 radar. tracking light showers moving northeast. these pushing back to the beltway to the district of arlington. they'll continue to move to the beltway area as we work through the afternoon hours. all this rain will continue to impact the area this afternoon. generally light to maybe moderate in intensity. it won't be until the evening hours when you can leave the umbrella at home. so here's future weather, and i want to warn you, i think the intensity a little bit overdone, but i think it does have a pretty good handle on the timing. so here we are at noon tracking scattered showers across the area. notice the brighter yellows indicating some heavier rain. we could see some moderate rain, but i don't think we'll be talking about downpours, maybe an isolated rumble of thunder today in southern maryland, but that's not going to be the case in the d.c. metro area. so 3:00, still tracking areas of rain, but once we start to hit the end of the evening rush, rain pulls out of the d.c. metro area, any scattered showers at that point, and by 8:00 p.m., we're completely dry. i'm going to let you know what kind of temperatures to expect by the end of the day in 10 minutes. i'm megan mcgrath. live outside fairfax county police headquarters where a murder investigation is under way. three men were shot inside a condominium on autobohn avenue last night. one of the men, a 22-year-old, has died, and police are now trying to figure out who pulled the trigger. 10:00 wednesday night. investigators were brought to the culchester town condominiums to the sound of gunfire. neighbors say there were a lot of shots. >> we heard about two shots go off at first. usually you hear shots like that, people are just playing around, it's not really somebody shooting. then we heard them back to back. i'm going to say i counted at least eight. he said he heard at least 15. >> reporter: on the scene, officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. one man said to be in his 20s died at the hospital. later police learned that a third man, also shot, had made his own way to the hospital. rosa garcia lives with her children in the building next door. she says it's time to move. >> i'm ready to go. i have kids here, and it's literally right next to home. way too close. >> reporter: and just minutes ago i got an update from police, and they say preliminarily it appears that the shooting stems from an argument, some sort of an altercation inside that condominium, that the three men know each other and they don't believe there is a larger threat to the community. in fairfax county, megan mcgrath, news 4. from the live desk we're watching a problem on metro's red line right now. it's no longer single tracking but there are still delays in both directions because of an earlier track problem outside a medical center. this directly coming from metro just a couple minutes ago. this comes literally at the same time metro swarz in a new general manager. reporter adam tuss is there. >> reporter: the new metro general manager, paul wiedefield, the ex-head manager will be sworn in here as the new metro general manager. news 4 has learned some details of his contract. he'll make about $400,000 per year and he'll have the option for a bonus based on performance. so weidefield certainly has some incentive to come in here and turn things around at metro. the swearing-in ceremony is supposed to start in the 11:00 hour, so we'll be live tweeting as those events unfold this hour. back to you. developing right now, news 4 learning more about a story we've been covering for you all morning long. >> what we now know about what led to a terrible crash. plus remember this image and story went from metro track to national hea developing right now, two people died in a crash involving an atv and suv. new video showed the suv mangled with the windows busted out there. the crash happened at racetrack road and old chapel road around 11:00 last night. there were two people on that atv, a man and a woman who were killed. the driver of the suv had minor injuries. also developing, the hunt for whoever shot and killed a police officer overnight near l.a. police have three people in custody right now. our affiliate in los angeles tweeted this picture of officer garvez. the shooting does not appear to be random. right now about 200 airline workers continue their strike for more pay. this is happening at jfk and la guardia and chicago o'hare. the group, made up mostly of baggage handlers, want $15 an hour. the strike could end today, but in the meantime, airlines say they have plans in place to make sure passengers aren't significantly affected. rain this morning, rain this afternoon and then changes for your weekend. storm team 4 and right now tracking scattered showers across the area. in the background here, you can see the national cathedral and light rain. current temperatures 63 degrees. temps not too bad. it's breezy out there, though. winds out of the south at about 16 miles an hour. keep the umbrella handy this afternoon. and temperatures will start to fall as we make our way toward the evening hours. a high today of about 67 degrees. we'll hit that at about 2:00 to 3:00 this afternoon. unfortunately, we can't really enjoy it because of the rain. then for the evening commute, temperatures will generally be in the low to mid-60s across the area. now, here's the latest check of storm team 4 radar. you can see rain inside parts of the beltway right now, parts of the district. clinton, maryland, waldorf, maryland as well getting some of this rain in the woodbridge area. as you're out and about this afternoon, we'll continue to track scattered showers. generally light in nature. we could see pockets of moderate rain, but for the most part, we're looking for kind of a damp day where i think the small umbrella will be just fine. i'm going to have a look ahead to the weather impacts for the week in 10 minutes. a washington nationals player likely to win baseball's big award today. brian harper is far and away the favorite to win the league's most valuable player this year. it's handed out at 6:00 tonight. harper tied for the most outs and he is tied for batting average. welcome back. we're watching the latest news after last week's terror attacks in paris. the headline right now, the suspended mastermind behind the attacks is dead. that out just hours ago. abdelhamid abaaoud was killed in a raid just north of paris yesterday. >> new this morning, u.s. intelligence officials say isis may be trying to produce chemical weapons. that kind of development causing concern about the refugee crisis out of syria and weather terrorists could pose as refugees to get into the country. they're focusing on safety and security at the capitol on the hill today as republicans push a bill to increase screenings for refuse gegees coming here. just into the live desk, jared fogle is in court right now where he will be sentenced to prison. the former subway spokesman could face up to 12 years on child pornography charges and sex crimes. that is what prosecutors are requesting, but a judge could make it even more. fogle was in federal court in indianapolis. he's there right now. he accepted a plea deal over the summer and admitted to paying for sex with girls as young as 16 and receiving child porn. fogle also agreed to pay restitution to his 14 victims. if we do learn his sentence before the end of the hour, we'll pass it along to you right away. back to you. and right now you're taking a look at our tower camera and storm team 4 radar tower camera. you can see a lot of moisture on it, and that is supported by storm team 4 radar where we're tracking showers mainly around washington and areas south. these moving from the south back into the region, so you got a little bit of a break. but as we head into the afternoon and early evening hours, we'll continue to track areas of rain, generally light in nature, so dealing with some rain for that evening commute, especially if you're leaving work earlier. temperature around 64 degrees. now, tomorrow morning, it's not about the rain, it's all about the temperatures. it's cold for the friday morning commute. definitely we'll have the heater on with the temperature of 46, but the sunglasses as well. looking ahead to the weekend. this weekend, saturday will be the better day. it's going to be cold and breezy on sunday. farmers markets, definitely need the warmer coat. coolest so far this season. exercise, if you like to get out, running and cycling early in the morning you may want to grab the gloves. i'll have a more detailed look at the next seven days, melissa, in 10 minutes. today a man who admitted attacking a bus driver in d.c. will make his first court appearance. only news4 had this video of the assault. darren jr. admitted he was angry when he punched the driver in the face earlier this month on florida avenue. it was the 16th attack on a metro bus driver this year. the search for a college student continues this morning. jason marburger's disappearance has shut down the school during the thanksgiving break. this semester, the 19-year-old reportedly showed up at his fraternity house with a handgun, resulting in school suspension and expulsion from his fraternity. increasing safety concerns prompted washington college in chesterton to shut down until november 30. his father spoke publicly for the first time during a vigil in the family's synagogue in abington last night. >> he's made so few mistakes in his life, i don't think he knows how to deal with that, the shame one feels when one lets themselves down. >> the fbi and state police are looking for him. surveillance footage shows he bought a small box of bullets from a walmart. his parents told police he may have a rifle from their pennsylvania home. new information about this deadly helicopter crash. you can still see the chopper spinning right there. we now know the two people who died were men in their 60s, both of them from california. the plane caught on fire short after a crash at the airport in san diego yesterday afternoon. no word why it crashed. the ntsb is looking into it. you may see what looks like a police operation on the potomac river today. however, it's only a drill. the u.s. coast guard is conducting boat training tactics. the training starts in less than an hour at noon. in 60 seconds, the creepy crawler gets a new name. plus a has been discovered and it's being named after a character. researchers say they doubt the spider can actually live outside a dark, moist environment. they're going to do more research on this cave dweller to see if it needs protection from extinction. the university of north dakota making headlines lately. the new name now, the nickname, is going to be the fighting hawks. the old name was the fighting sioux which was banned under a college sports policy which said the name and the symbol were racially offensive. the university has been without a nickname since 2012. the beloved cult shows "the soup" is being canceled. they ran the show for 12 years. it was originally called "talk soup." what will you miss about the show? we picked up three of them for you. yes, we will miss joel mchale poking fun at t breezy as we head into the afternoon hours. generally light showers as well. rain will move out of the d.c. metro area between about 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. this evening, so that could also days. it's warmer, we're looking at more sunshine, a high of 53. sunday a high of 48 and it's breezy as well on sunday. monday, chilly, a high of 45 and that's after most areas start off with temperatures around or below freezing. so very cold to begin next week. tuesday, wednesday, high temperatures in the low 50s and plenty of sunshine. now sunday, we said it's going to be a little bit breezy. coming up in 10 minutes, we'll let you know how it feels throughout the day when you actually factor in the winds. storm team radar tracking rain inside the district, moovrg up to parts of montgomery county as well. former loudoun county supervisor shawne williams faces charges after attacking his neighbor earlier this fall. you might remember he admitted pushing his way into his neighbor's home in asheville and hitting him. williams said he was drunk at the time and he's seeking treatment for alcohol abuse. everybody is okay after this school bus crash. take a look at that for a minute. straight through a wall and right into a vitamin shop near pittsburgh. unbelievable. this happened around 3:00 this morning, long before, thankfully, any kids were off to school. police said the bus was out because someone stole it from a locked bus lot. the driver apparently crashed it through a gate first and then got away after driving it into that building. carjackers who stole a car in virginia made a detour to an elementary school after they found an eight-year-old child in the backseat. the two men stole the car from outside a post office in norfolk yesterday morning while the owner dashed inside. police say the men asked the eight-year-old boy where he went to school and just dropped him off like it was a normal day. the car was found a few miles away from the school. no arrests have been made. right now on news4 midday, lighting up the stage, the big production that just rolled into d.c. that has critics and fans raving. but first, big new developments in the wake of the paris attacks. the man believed to be behind it no lon today continuous developments after the paris attacks that killed 129 people. the suspended mastermind of the attacks is, in fact, dead. abdelhamid abaaoud was killed in that police raid near paris yesterday. we also just learned that he was checked out by german police in january of 2014 at an airport in january, but there was no reason, they thought, to arrest him. now a lot of people want to know how abaaoud, known on french and belgian wanted terror lists, could get into paris undetected. that leads us to a house hearing happening right now here in washington on security screening for syrian and iraqi refugees coming into the u.s. nbc's tracie potts is covering the u.s.'s reaction to it all. >> reporter: fear of isis terrorists slipping into the u.s. is fueling action today on capitol hill. president obama this morning on today's house vote that would block more syrian refugees from entering the u.s. >> the idea that somehow they pose a more significant threat than all the tourists who pour into the united states every single day just doesn't jibe with reality. that's not what our law enforcement thinks, that's not what anybody who has looked at this problem thinks. >> reporter: most americans disagree. 56% in our new survey monkey on-line poll. >> people care for the people fleeing the middle east but they also want basic safety for this country. >> this notion we're going to suspend it or end it is just wrong. >> reporter: even some democrats are skeptical. >> i want to make sure we're voting on a bill that, first and foremost, keeps the american people safe. >> reporter: the white house is threatening a veto. our poll shows almost two-thirds of americans want boots on the ground in syria to fight isis. and we learned as of this morning that some of the paris attackers were on a u.s. no-fly list. tracie potts, nbc news, washington. i'm live outside the fairfax district county courthouse where the woman accused of performing yoga poses on metro rail tracks is in the courthouse right now waiting for her trial to start in this case. holly bentley faces trespassing charges, and her attorney is hoping to be able to work out a deal with prosecutors before they actually go before the judge. you may remember seeing the surveillance footage first on news4 when our i-team showed you a woman and her photographer on the tracks there. after that holly bentley was arrested. i had a chance to speak with the detective working this case who says it is unclear what is going to happen today in the courtroom, but this is a misdemeanor and it carries up to a year in jail. the detective says miss bentley does have a clean record and the prosecutor will consider that, but it's a very serious matter. he pointed out to me that what she is accused of doing at the west falls church metro station last december was extremely dangerous, and many others who have climbed onto the tracks did not live to be able to tell the story. so that's the story from here for now. waiting on the trial to start in this case, but holly bentley's attorney is hoping that she and the prosecutor can work out some sort of deal to keep her client out of jail. that is the latest live from fairfax county. back to you. another story we're watching closely this morning, that second wave of rain that's about to move into the area after the first round made for a tricky drive to work for a lot of you. amelia seigel is tracking it in the weather center. amelia, tell us what's next. >> next our focus will turn to cooler temperatures today. a high of about 67. after that we'll be tracking temps that are in the 50s for highs starting tomorrow. so as we look to the weekend, here's what it's going to feel like on sunday. high temperature on sunday of 48, but during the morning hours when you factor in a bit of a breeze, it's going to feel like temperatures are in the 20s and 30s. by the afternoon that high of 48 will feel more like 40 degrees as we continue to track a bit of a breeze across the area. you can see today not so bad. 2:00, 3:00, temperatures around 66 degrees, outside the temp is about 65. the chill moves in overnight tonight and greets us tomorrow morning. in talking about that second wave of rain, that has now moved into most of the area. you can see most of the d.c. metro area with light showers. this will continue to advance to howard county and baltimore as we move into the afternoon hours. rain pulls out of the area at about 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the pittsburgh tracked the sleeping patterns of hundreds of adults for a week. they found people whose sleep schedules are vastly different on their free days compared to their work days were more likely and you can see at noon tracking rain in a lot of the area across a good portion of the area. at 3:00, continuing to track rain. it's not until we hit 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 as rain starts to push out of the region. rain could impact that evening commute. notice here on future weather at 8:00. not only does rain push off to the eastern shore, but clouds starting to clear. as we look into next week, of course, it's thanksgiving. before thanksgiving we have travel wednesday. i'll be looking ahead to what kind of travel weather you can expect in 10 minutes. that was a scene on 14th street in columbia heights last night. protesters shut down the street in honor of trans week in action. the goal is to bring attention to the crimes and specifically murders across the country. the most recent in our area, 22-year-old bella zioni. after several protests, though, the organizer was arrested. two big developing stories first. the fast-moving developments in paris and the changing weather situation right here at home. we're back in just a moment. right now the mastermind of last week's devastating terrorist acts in paris. one of the two people killed in a major raid yesterday. we are learning more about him this morning alongside new questions about how he was there. >> nbc tells us about the latest development in security right now. >> abdelhamid abaaoud is now believed by french prosecutors to be killed in those raids yesterday. he is 29 years old. he is variously described as the mastermind, the lynch pin. whatever word you use, he is the man that french authorities believe was behind the attack in paris, the massacre that killed 129 people. yesterday they raided that third floor apartment. two people were killed, a woman and a man. they were not able to identify the man because his body was so badly damaged by the fire fight, so they had to use fingerprints identifications to establish that it is, they believe, abaaoud. it is a very, very important development, not the least because the french believe that terrorist was planning another attack in paris, and at the same time, they will be stunned that he had managed to make his way here to the center of europe. prior to that, intelligence services across europe believe he was with isis in syria and that he perhaps planned this plot from there. instead it now appears that he had managed to make his way right to this capitol city of france, and himself orchestrates those attacks. abdelhamid abaaoud, french prosecutors believe, killed yesterday in those raids and another attack on paris soil. back to you. a controversial response after the attacks in paris. a mayor from southwestern virginia is no longer part of the hillary clinton campaign because of it. >> mayor david bower compared the current refugee situation to world war ii. in this letter he said the u.s. should refuse to help settle syrian refugees just as franklin delano roosevelt turned away japanese-americans during the second world war. he said during an interview most americans realize the internment was wrong. new information on a triple shooting in highland valley that left one person dead. the incident started with an argument inside the apartments on autobohn avenue last night. the man killed was 22 years old. the other two were also in their 20s. we've got a developing story out of mississippi. strong storms brought two buildings crashing to the ground. take a look at this image here. the city manager says too much water collected on one of the rooftops was also an aid to this, that combined with the structural failure of a wall between the two buildings caused all of this to crumble. no one was inside those buildings at the time of the collapse. some good news there. and, of course, thursday, thanksgiving. the day before thursday, here's what you can expect for travel weather right now. in our area for the most part, just tracking cold temperatures, and not just here but pretty much up and down the eastern seaboard. as we look back further to the west, warmer temperatures in parts of the midwest with a chance of showers extending from texas up into minnesota, and then in the pacific northwest tracking snow there. the chance of snow extends on into colorado and parts of california, and then as we continue along the coast of california, chance of some showers there. so for the most part right now, if you're traveling locally, it looks like the weather will be cooperating. and here's the latest check of storm team 4 radar tracking areas of rain mainly around the beltway and into the south, into parts of southern maryland, down around the fredricksburg area. if you're traveling along 95 this afternoon heading out of washington south, it's going to be a soggy commute. and for the rest of today for the most part tracking only light to moderate rain. i'm not really seeing a lot of heavy rain potential in the forecast. notice how our temperatures dip from a high today of about 67 degrees down to a high tomorrow of 55. i'm going to have a closer look at the weekend coming up in 10 minutes, erica. >> thanks, amelia. each week we introduce you to a wednesday's child with the hopes that somebody will come forward to adopt them, and we've got a pretty good record of making that happen. >> that's true, but as kids wait for a new home, there are volunteers with a group that often serve as mentors to help the kids get them through trying times and make decisions about their lives as they get older. >> barbara harrison met up with a couple former wednesday's kids who got some of that as they waited. >> they've just been like my backbone. they've been there every step of the way when i was feeling down about not being adopted. >> tanika was a wednesday's child, featured twice as we tried to find a family to adopt her. >> maybe after the first couple months when nothing happened, i was like, oh, maybe nobody wants me. >> but there was not just someone but a whole group out there for her, a group called dcfyi. this was a recent gathering. >> we're an organization that's just five years old. >> reporter: the d.c. family and youth initiative is a group of volunteers that helps teens like tanika in foster care. >> because of them, every teen in foster care that we serve discovers a safe and caring place almost like any other experience while they're in foster care. >> reporter: at this recent gathering, several of the teens who have benefited from the program were present. some of them had found adoptive homes. >> half of the teens we served so far have found adoptive families. >> reporter: thomas, who was shown several times as a wednesday's child, finally was adopted by a classmate's mom who got the nerve to ask if she might want to have him in their family. >> i'm positive every day. the positive is that you get what you long for, and it just shows how patience works out in your favor. i'm just so grateful to have a home and a loving family i can go to. >> reporter: but some of the teens found something different. like tanika. >> even though i didn't get an adoptive family, i've got them, and they've been with me through everything. >> reporter: tanika became a mom herself a few years ago and she said the group helped get her life moving in the right direction. >> i really want to be a radiologist. that's my goal and that's what i'm going to school for. >> you want to go to medical school? >> yes. >> that's a big goal, isn't it? tanika, like others here this evening, help volunteer teens and other volunteers. >>
