towards fredericksburg 79 degrees. no rain to talk about now but you don't have to go too far to start seeing the rain. you see the clouds, all of these clouds courtesy of this big monster storm down to the part. the monster part about it, the storm itself is not all that strong but it's just sitting down here. we call that a cut off low, and what that does is it just pumps in tremendous amounts of moisture right off the gulf of mexico. that's why parts of louisiana, parts of mississippi have seen one to two feet of all-time record flooding, and it's going to be a long time before they can clean up. we are going to see moisture making its way our way during the day tomorrow but most of the day looks dry. here is your hour-by-hour forecast. some cloud cover around the 11:00 hour but most he describes the moment he came face to fa wiceth you're watching news4 at 5:00. >> the d.c. firefighter who shared his breathing mask to save a woman from a burning building is now out of the hospital. danny lovato was being hailed as a hero by some for his actions. this storas one in our nbc washington app all day today. lovato risked his life to save a grandmother in southeast d.c. >> news4's darcy spencer was there when he walked out of the hospital today and she's live with how he described those dramatic moments in that fire. darcy? >> reporter: first and foremost, he says he is not a hero. he says this is what they are trained to do every day to save lives, and as a matter of fact he's hoping to get back on the job within a week. d.c. firefighter danny lovato humble as he walks out of the washington hospital center burn unit holding his wife's hand. he received a hero's welcome. >> what i did wasn't extraordinary. it's what we've been trained to do. >> reporter: but the woman he saved thinks otherwise. lovato climbed up a ladder to reach phyllis terrell. the 65-year-old woman was trapped in her burning southeast d.c. apartment. >> we made eye contact. i told her that earlier today an k and i looked at her and i told her, just don't do it, i'll be up there in a second. >> reporter: when he reached her, he had to make a quick life-saving decision. >> i knew i wasn't going to be able to pull her over the railing because we were so high. i knew that it would risk both of our lives, so i just gave her my air. >> reporter: it was that decision that many say saved terrell's life. because the smoke was so thick, they actually shared lovato's mask until firefighters could reach her from inside the building. >> it's pretty amazing how fast that smoke takes your breath away. >> reporter: lovato became emotional when talking about all the support he's received over the last few days. >> my wife, my motorcycle crew here, firefighters, the burn foundation especially have always been available to help families >> reporter: that was a very touching moment. phyllis terrell is still being treated here at the hospital, but the firefighter was able to speak with her before he left today. i'm going to have more on that emotional reunion coming up on news4 at 6:00. >> thank you, darcy. d.c. police are trying to figure out who shot and killed a man in northeast d.c. today. the department's shot spotter system detected the found of gunshots on 44th street near sheriff road. when police arrived just after 5:00 a.m., they did find a vehicle that had been hit by bullets and further up the road they found a man's body behind a home. he had been shot at least once. right now officials in russia are working to get some more information on the death of a former vladimir putin aide discovered dead in a d.c. hotel room. the autopsy released on mikhail lesin says he died of blunt force trauma. >> and yet t reported he died of a heart attack. pete williams is here with more on this story. how do you get from a heart attack to blunt force trauma and they're still not calling it a homicide. >> that's correct. they say they don't know whether in fact he was murdered. his body was found in november in a hotel in dupont circle and the thought was at the time that he had a heart attack. an autopsy was conducted but the a -- results were not announced until this week. they're looking into what happened here. we've been told that surveillance video from the hotel shows he was disheveled when he came back to the hotel the night he died. so that raises the possibility that these injuries were suffered before he got to the hotel and investigators also say that he had been drinking heavily. they said that at the time as well. but they don't know whether, in fact, it was a homicide, whether he got in a fight or something outside the hotel. there's no sign of forced no sign anyone else came to the room. so it's a bit of a mystery. the russians have said they want to know more about this but the state department said they have been trying to coordinate information between the police and the russians and to keep the russians informed. one thing about this, the fbi is not investigating this. it's entirely in the hands of metro pd which i think tells you something about the thoughts about what it might be. >> was lesin known to have had any enemies here in washington? and how did his relationship with vladimir putin end? >> no, not that i know of. no enemies in the united states. he was a putin adviser, an advertising executive who was very successful, helped putin get re-elected and then ran a television network, ran one of the biggest media companies and then got into a falling out with putin's associates and stepped down. he said at the time was for family reasons. speaking of family, by the way, he has family in the united states. his son is a movie producer and movies in hollywood. >>
