stabbings in the district this morning. police are still on the scene of one of those stabbings near 5th and florida avenues in northwest. so is news4's tracee wilkins with the latest. bring us up to speed. >> reporter: as you said, this is a fatal accident or a fatal stabbing. and it's what police are -- [ inaudible ] >> reporter: of course this weather is not going to help. rain never helps with this kind of investigation. police are still here on the scene. that's the car that crashed into the tavern here at the 500 block of florida avenue. there was a man found inside of that car who had been stabbed. he was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced. police are still looking for a suspect. they say this happened around 2:15 this morning. there are reports this man may have been leave something kind of nearby tavern. not this particular tavern, but another one where there may have been a fight that led to what ended here in a fatal stabbing. in northwest, i'm tracee wilkins, news4. >> thank you. also new this morning, police are looking into another deadly stabbing in the district. this one happened around 1:30 in the 4500 block of quarrel street northeast. police found a man stabbed in the stomach, not conscious, and not breathing. he later died at the hospital. our news4 crew was whether their when police took someone into -- was there when police took someone into custody. jury selection begins for a man on trial, accused of stabbing maynor dozen men in virginia and five other states. five men died in michigan. the man will stand trial for the murder of 49-year-old arnold minor in michigan. officers discovered minor's dna in dried blood in the man's suv and inside luggage as he trieding to to see his native israel in august of 2010. he is also charged with attempted murder in toledo, ohio. the man is accused of stabbing several men in the leesburg area, as well. leesburg police also suspect him in an unsolved murder in 2009. one year after the death of osama bin laden, we're hearing more about the night president obama gave the green light for the raid. navy s.e.a.l. team six stormed bin laden's compound in pakistan and killed the man who carried out the september 11 attacks. top government and military leaders gather in the white house situation room and waited for the outcome of the raid. the president has said it was the longest 40 minutes of his life. secretary of state hillary clinton also described the tension in that room last may. >> wasn't so much a high five moment as a looking around and just feeling together as candidates for mitt romney. six minutes after the hour. today the d.c. council will voted on a plan to repay workers for furloughed days. more than 20,000 employees did not get holiday pay four times last year. the council imposed the furlough days to make up for a budget shortfall. after all the spending cuts, the district ended up with a surplus. there is some debate that the $22 million set to repay the city employees should instead offset a proposed tax increase and cuts to social services programs. the caps are coming home tied in their series with the new york rangers. >> ovechkin are calling for a strike against work, banks, and anything which promote commerce. members of occupy d.c. will hold a festival and rally at meridian hill park. that starts at 3:30 this afternoon. the group will then march from the park down 14th street to the white house at 6:30 tonight. right now, police say they have no plans to shut down lanes of traffic to accommodate the protesters. and while things are expected to be peaceful here, the may day protests could cause big problems elsewhere. in new york, occupiers will march from union square to wall street. there are reports protesters could block several major bridge and tunnels in manhattan. wells fargo shut down five branches after receiving envelopes containing a suspicious white powder. two other envelopes were sent to jpmorgan chase headquarters and mayor bloomberg's office. they were harmless. one of the letters had the message "welcome to may 1." occupiers hope today's nationwide protests will re-energize the movement that started last september. for the first time, the obama administration is publicly acknowledging counter drone strikes. the president wants to be more open with the american public. brennan said targets are chosen by weighing if there's a way to capture the person, and the threat level to americans. brennan also said in most cases, drone strikes are carried out with the cooperation of a host government. at the same time this morning, a new report says the u.s. military is not telling us everything that happens in afghanistan. according to the associated press, coalition forces led by the u.s. are underreporting the number of times afghan soldiers and police opened fire on american and foreign troops. usually the coalition military reports when a soldier is killed. but the coalition does not report when afghan soldiers shots at or wounded other u.s. troops which happened twice last week. military leaders acknowledge the attacks are concerning as they work with afghan troops to hand off security responsibilities. starting tomorrow, about 100 secretive agents will begin a program in ethics training in response to the prostitution scandal.
