final four. events are planned around the country to remember martin luther king junior. many will take part in a day of service. those are some of the top stories on this monday, january 16th. from abc news, this is "world news now." one thing that's not clear at this hour is how the president-elect will mark mlk day. in the meantime, donald trump has been on a warpath firing back against criticism on two months. >> that's right. trump is under fire for slamming john lewis after the civil rights giant challenged the legitimacy of his presidency. and he is also squaring off with the cia director suggesting john brennan may have leaked the report about donald trump being compromised by russia. david wright as the details. >> reporter: the president-elect is facing sharp criticism from the outgoing cia director. >> what i do find outrageous is equating an intelligence community with nazi germany. i take umbrage at that. >> reporter: trump took umbrage at that calling on the intelligence chiefs to apologize for lending credibility to a conspiracy theory that russia has comp mieromising material o trump. >> what i think mr. trump has to understand is this is more than being about him. it's about the united states and national security. >> reporter: the cia director even suggested that trump doesn't have a full grasp of the issues. >> i don't think he has a full appreciation of russian capabilities, russia's intentions and actions. >> reporter: it's the second war of words for the president-elect this weekend. the other between trump and a man called the conscious of the congress. that fight started when john lewis told an interviewer he'd boycott trump's swearing in ceremony at the capitol. >> president-elect has a legitimate president. >> reporter: trump called lewis all talk, no action or result. attacking one of the living links to dr. king's dream. a man who crossed the edmund pettus bridge. trump's criticism launched on martin luther king weekend prompts an outpouring of umbrage. >> i understand why john lewis feels the way he does. >> reporter: now at least 19 democrats are skipping the inauguration, some of them citing the response to lewis as the season. >> i hope john lieu wewis and o will be with us. >> reporter: mike pence pleaded for peace. >> remember the great line, what the heck do you have to lose? >> what the hell do you have to lose? >> he is committed to being president to all the people of the country and bringing jobs and prosperity in ways that the failed liberal policies have not. >> reporter: on morton luther king day he was slated to visit a museum that owes its existence to lewis. the visit is now cancelled but this is not an auspicious start to inauguration week. trump power. >> thank you to david. the president-elect is now promising what really sounds like universal health care. which, of course, would mark a sharp break for most republicans. on the same day thousands of people rallied to save obama care, trump told "the washington post" his plan to replace the health care law would include insurance for everybody. he did not reveal any specific details. protesters say they'll continue to hold demonstrations against gop efforts to repeal the current law. preparation for inauguration is in full swing. marches for friday's festivities and members of the military served as standing for president-elect soon to be first lady and the future vice president and his wife. they walk down the capitol steps and also took part in a mock swearing in ceremony. >> we're father days from the inauguration. abc news will cover all of it this friday starting at 7:00 a.m. breaking news from overseas. a turkish jet crashed this morning in central asia. at least 32 people have been killed. many of the victims died when the boeing 747 slammed into this neighborhood near the airport. the cargo jet was traveling from hong kong to turkey. a team is ready to provide assistance from boeing. samsung's vice president is wanted on oh bribery, embezz embezzlement and perjury charges. lee is suspected of embezzling some of the money that went to the chinese president. he has denied the allegations. new developments in another samsung scandal. an internal investigation has wrapped up into what caused some galaxy note sevens to catch fire. the results of the investigation are expected to be released next week. the recall of the mobile phones were said to have cost the company about 19 billion. and this consumer alert this morning, a recall of baby powder. the honest company says it is voluntarily recalling the powder because of possible contamination which could lead to skin or eye infections. the company was founded by jessica alba. it came under fire from the wall street journal which claims a green laundry detergent. officials are saying people in the central plains to stay home on this holiday. the icy weather in more than a dozen states is likely to cause more accidents like the one you just saw and we've seen all over that part of the country. experts say just a quarter inch of ice can make a roadway extremely slippery. thousands of people are also without power overnight. the midwest isn't the only area that will see storms today. >> let's find out who else. paul williams is standing by. good morning. it looks like bad luck for the west coast goes for another week. we have a river of moisture feeding into the west coast creating flood riffs from san francisco even up toward medford and possibly seattle and heavy snow on the other side of it. how much rain? of a nationwide program called 1,000 books before kindergarten actually reading the thousand books herself. that's when she got invited to be librarian for a day at the library of congress shadowing the head library. she thinks she might want to be a librarian someday, but she als also loves reading about design sa dinosaurs. what we know for sure, she's just getting started. no doubt. she has a in right now from overseas. a plane crash involving an american made boeing 747. at least 32 people killed. many of the deaths on the ground when the turkish airlines cargo plane slammed into homes. it was flying from hong kong to turkey when it went down. visibility was said to be poor at the time. five people were injured including three. we'll stay on top of this story the morning. trump is video shows police stopping lawrence crosby for allegedly stealing a car. he gets out with his hands up. then officers rush him saying he didn't get on the ground as ordered. officers can be seen driving his own car. police suspected crosby after a woman called 9-1-1. she thought he was trying to break into the vehicle. he was actually doing roadside repair. on that call she later admitted >> reporter: it was very dense fog. they opened an investigation, but the initial finding is the pilot missed the runway because of fog. >> you're seeing a sea of white. it's in an area used to snow. you can't tell what we're looking at at the images, but you know the lay of the land. is it a fairly populated area where the plane went down?
