about 9 miles per hour right now in philadelphia adding to the chilly feel. as we take a look at the bus stop this morning, it looks like it's cloudy, probably dry in most neighborhoods between 6:00 and 8:00 and temperatures in the low 50's, 52 by 6 o'clock and about 53 by 8 o'clock. as we go through the day it stays cloudy and cool, that's for sure. staying in the 50's through most of the morning hours and staying in the low 60's for the majority of the afternoon. we'll get a high of just 62 today and we'll probably hit that early, say, around 1:30 or 2 o'clock. probably be sliding back into the mid-50's by 6 o'clock and again, especially during the late morning and afternoon hours, there is the chance of some light rain. most of this falling from areas close to the i-95 corridor and south. if you're up in the lehigh valley and northern bucks and montgomery counties you probably don't have as much a chance of that. with this unsettled weather good news pollen count on the low to medium range so not quite as bad for those of you who suffer from allergies over the next several days. things do get better towards the end of the work week. more on that karen rogers in the seven day. >> all right dave let's hit the roads right now. not looking too bad. looking live on the vine street expressway approaching the schuylkill and all lanes have reopened. that overnight construction on the vine cleared nice and on time but crews will be back again tonight at 11 o'clock. and annie mccormack has been talking about this police activity in south philadelphia. watch for restrictions on 11th street at south. use ninth or 13th to get around any problems. 95 approaching cottman southbound traffic moving fine towards center city. what a nightmare we had yesterday on i-95. so far so good is all we can say for now looking all right. in franconia township we have a new accident out here on lied dee road at cowpath road. police and fire crews all on the scene with this and construction blocking the right lane and the center lane on i-95 northbound at the brandywine river bridge. so watch for the crews out there right now, matt and tam. >> thanks karen. breaking this morning, that story you just mentioned, karen a-philadelphia police officer was injured when a truck smashed into her cruiser. officials say it happened while the officer was responding to an assault call. "action news" reporter annie mccormick is live at the scene along south street where this happened. annie. >> reporter: and matt, you can take a closer look at that police cruiser that was involved in this crash at 11th and south. you can see it up against the pole and you can also see debris littered around the corner there. we're told a 45-year-old female police officer is now at jefferson hospital but is expected to be okay. well, take a look at this video. this all unfolded around 2:00 a.m. we're told the officer from the third district was responding to a call in the 300 block of south street near randolph where two people reported they were assaulted. following the assault, there was a foot pursuit and reports the suspect was armed. now, the female officer was about seven blocks away. she had lights and sirens activated in her cruiser. she was one en route when she collided with a bread truck at 11th and south. and take a look at this video. this is video you'll only see on "action news" of the suspect from that assault at third and south taken into custody following a foot chase. officers arrested him at fifth and south. and he is now currently still in custody. well, back out here live again you can see he a police officer holding the scene still here at 11th and south. you heard karen talking about some restrictions in that area. we've seen them let some cars down on the other side of the road on south there past the police cruiser but again, there still are restrictions here. now, the accident investigation division is investigating this. we're told that the officer is walking and talking to fellow officers but she's still in the hospital at this time. for now reporting live along south street, annie mccormick channel6 "action news." >> annie thank you for that. and also happening today, the ntsb will release the probable cause of last year's deadly amtrak derailment in port richmond. already this morning some details of those findings are emerging. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live at 30th street station with more on all of there. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam. this was a year long investigation. we saw those ntsb investigators at the site in the days following the crash and then the investigation continued in washington, d.c. for some of the details that are emerging before they officially release the probable cause today we're hearing that human error could have been a factor here and that there was also a problem with the train's emergency windows but we'll hear more about it today when the ntsb meets in washington, d.c. may 12th, 2015. eight people were killed, more than 200 injured after amtrak train 188 derailed in port richmond. about 10 minutes after leaving 30th street station. one year and five days later, the national transportation safety board is meeting in washington, d.c. to vote on the probable cause of the crash. the ntsb won't comment before today's hearing but an official briefed on the investigation said that engineer brandon bostian was distracted by radio transmissions from a septa train operator who said a rock shattered their windshield. bostian was going more than double the speed limit when the train rounded the sharp curve at frankford junction. an official also told the associated press that investigators believe there were issues with the train's emergency windows and several people were killed because they were ejected through them. the investigation also found that police transported many of the injured to the hospital and the ntsb is expected to recommend that they steady wait for ambulances at mass casualty incidents. so, today the ntsb will that outline the probable cause and then they'll also make more recommendations for the future. we're live at 30th street station, katherine scott, channel6 "action news. tam. >> okay, thank you for that katherine. and a bucks county couple is lined bars this morning. they're accused of abusing their two infant girls. tullytown police say michael and melissa shales caused significant injuries to the twin girls who are less than four months old. one of the babies was rushed to the hospital in march. upon further examination police say doctors discovered the baby had multiple broken bones and a spinal injury that was in the process of healing. the other twin was found with similar injuries. the twins and their two-year-old brother are now in the care of child protective services. the family of amy joyner-francis wants to do a second autopsy. joyner-francis died after being assaulted in a school bathroom by three girls at howard highly technology in wilmington last month. covering to the first autopsy report, joyner-francis died of a longstanding heart condition that was triggered by the assault but the dead teenager's family says cardiologists have told them that the defect should not have caused sudden death. as well, the family wants the accused teens to face more serious charges. >> forget the fact of the situation with the heart condition, amy was killed in the bathroom by the young ladies who, and i do not believe those young ladies intended to kill amy and i would like to make sure the family do not believe there is what happened. there's always consequence to behaviors there are not positive. >> based on the medical examiner's report, only one of the girls was directly charged with criminally negligent homicide. >> we have new information on a story we've been following for nine months. a west philadelphia funeral director who was charged with abuse of a corpse has lost his license. blare hawkins faces three counts of abuse of a corpse. police found 3-d composing bodies at hawkins funeral services on the 5300 block of vine street last august. they found a bag filled with human organs. hawkins had been operating with an expired license. state regulators revoked his license plus imposed a $100,000 fine. >> ♪ >> on to politics now. two more presidential primary races will be decided today in this case in kentucky and oregon. presumptive republican nominee donald trump is still trying to fend off criticism over his treatment of women based on a front page special report by the new york times. the billionaire unleashed a barrage of tweets against the paper on ex-girlfriend mentioned in the article has come to trump's defense. john kasich gave his first major interview since exiting the gop race. he says he hasn't decided whether or not he will bactrim. however, he has ruled out running as a third party candidate. on the democrat side, hillary clinton and bernie sanders are still battling for every last vote. clinton focused her last minute campaigning on kentucky mocking donald trump in a hypothetical debate and clashing with a member of the crowd over the current republican governor of kentucky's record on healthcare reform. polling shows clinton looking pretty good for today's vote in kentucky but sanders having a better slot in oregon. a reminder to new jersey voters today is the last day if you wander to register for the june seventh primary in that state. new jersey has a closed primary that means you can only vote for candidates representing the political party that matches your registration. for republicans, new jersey is a winner take all presidential contest. >> rain moving in typical fashion from west to east today. >> yes, yes, and it's going to be light for the most part probably holding off until after the morning commute. storm tracker6 live double scan shows us that we're dry right now. there is a little bit of a hint of precipitation well to the west of dover but that's it. and as we take a look outside we have cloudy skies overhead getting ready for that rain to come in and as you step outside, it is also cool once again this morning. your temperature in philadelphia 55 degrees. some suburbs in the upper 40's and winds out of the southwest not real strong but 8 miles per hour is enough to notice certainly if you have that cool temperature to start out. you've got cloud cover that is going to be rolling in during the morning and again by eight morning or noon, we do expect some of these light sprinkles and showers to begin to push into areas close to philadelphia and certainly to areas south and west of the city and then we get to 3 o'clock and you can see how most of us are beneath at least a little bit of this. i will point out that this rain is highlighted in lighter shades of green for the most part so it's not going to be all that heavy but it will be a little spite out there and slightly light rain or slightly damp. also in allentown and reading and points north of i-95, you're not going to see as much rain in places like lehigh valley you might not get anything today. and then by 6 o'clock the latest model run has most of this over to the east. i'll still allow for it to be a little bit damp especially in delaware and south jersey and through the evening there will be a little bit more of that passing through. but generally speaking cloudy and slightly damp today and not a real great looking day. it's also going to remain cool. we'll be in the 50's through the morning. probably hit 60 around noon and then your high of 62 comes fairly early in the day, say, 1:30 or 2 o'clock. by 5 o'clock we'll be back down to 57 and as you saw a little damp at times through the afternoon and early evening. 62 is your high in philadelphia. up north where we won't see as much rain we're a little bit milder, 64 in trenton and allentown, 65 in reading and then cooler down the shore, a high of 60 in cape may and and in atlantic city. for the phillies tonight bundle up. 56 degrees for the first pitch. 52 in the ninth inning. it is looking cloudy and cool. then tomorrow a low pressure center keeps us cloudy in the morning with perhaps a shower but in the afternoon some sun returns with a high of 66. and high pressure comes in for the end of the week both thursday and friday look great with a capitol g. your exclusive accuweather 7-day, 62, mainly cloudy light showers today. 66 tomorrow with some late sun possible and then thursday and friday 72 and 74 respectively with lots of sun. looks like rain is pretty likely now on saturday. could even be a steady rain at times through the day. a high of just 65 road at cowpath. bucks county construction blocks the right lane on the northeast extension northbound between quakertown and lehigh valley. all the other construction zones on the northeast extension have cleared so looking pretty good out there. on the commuter traffic report we found someone talking about an accident on large street near lynn ford so watch for that one as you're heading out. 55 degrees the current temperature. doesn't feel bad compared to yesterday. we were wearing the heavy coat, it was like 30 degrees in the morning hours and some of the suburbs. it's 49 in allentown, 49 in millville so you can see temperatures are ranging between 11 and 14 degrees warmer than they were yesterday morning. however, the afternoon is going to be cooler and damp. we've got cloudy skies, a surfers in san diego. the buddies were burying louie lopez in the sand when high tide started to fill the hole with water locking lopez in place. lifeguards raced against time shoveling lopez out against a wall of surf boards that they put there to try to keep the ocean at bay. >> fresh sure and suction from the water and sand just made it all bad. >> at first it was funny but then like we realized that it was serious. >> lopez finally was able to pull himself free. the surfers say they've learned their lesson. >> new on "action news," a gay pastor who had accused a whole foods in texas of writing a gay slur on his cake now admits he was lying. jordan brown's picture and story went viral last month. officials had the whole foods in austin fought back to prove employees did not tamper with the cake and even released surveillance footage that they seychelles the cake had been tampered with after brown purchased it. whole foods has dropped the counter lawsuit against brown since he has publicly apologized. a television actor who was arrested in atlanta over the weekend canceled his planned commencement address at rutgers university newark tomorrow t wendell pierce says he did not want to create a distraction. police report says a heated political discussion got physical between pierce a woman and two of her friends at a hotel. pierce is known for his role as detective from the vine eastbound to i-95 southbound will close, though. that happens tonight at 8 o'clock and it lasts until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. so, you're going to have to get on i-95 northbound and flip over at girard or get on i-95 southbound from market street and that's going to cause problems overnight tonight and into early tomorrow morning, dave. >> all right, karen we can see the clouds in that traffic shot. it's cloudy and cool out there. dressing the kids in jackets this morning with temperatures down around the 50-degree mark and this afternoon we might want to add an you think bell although most of the rain we're looking at today is going to be fairly light. if you're running errands you might want to get them done in the morning before the rain starts. it will be cool, 56 by 9 o'clock and only 59 by 11:00. somewhere around 11 o'clock to noon we'll see sprinkles and showers come in in parts of the region and then we stay in the low 60's this afternoon with that high of 62 rather early in the day around 1:30 or 2:00. by 4 o'clock down to 58. again rain light for most of the afternoon and into perhaps the early evening and centered mainly from about i-95 south if massachusetts town about teens eating seeds to get hig high. the school superintendent posted a memo on the police department's facebook page last week saying several teens got sick from eating flower seeds. teens were not seriously hurt. police say the teens looked to ingest seeds of sleepy grass, hawaiian baby wood degrees and blue morning glory seeds because of their hallucinogenic effects. 54-year-old michael boudreau is not your typical college grad. he took classes at worcester polytechnic institute while also keeping the place clean. boudreau took a custodial job at the school eight years ago after losing his small business to the recession. the janitor took advantage of tuition free classes for employees. he is now getting his degree in mechanical engineering and will be looking
