it was a surprise that turned out to have deadly consequences. police say that the victim was on the phone with his friend at the time trying to surprise her but when she thought -- she thought instead an intruder and opened fire. >> that's awful. >> reporter: that's the reaction along jen see street in hamilton to the terrible turn of events. this woman pauline lloyd was on the friend with her friend kelvin watford of willingboro. watford told her he was near the george washington bridge in north jersey returning from a trip but was letting himself into the house to surprise her. she thought it was haw an intruder and shot him in the chest killing him. >> he's out of town and she thinks he's far away and somebody is coming in her house you can't blame her in a way then. just an awful tragedy. >> when you do something like that you're thinking it's a burglar and here it's a friend of yours. it's got to be devastating. for the person that was shot plus the person that did the shooting. >> reporter: kelvin watford was 50 years old a union construction trainer who traveled the country for work. his car was personalized license plates was towed weigh from the scene this morning. he was the father of four grown children with four grandchildren. at his home in willingboro today his brother's remembered him. >> his life shouldn't have been snuffed away like this. he was a great man. he was -- he was a great father, a single parent for over 20 years. all around good brother. >> reporter: lloyd is believed to be a military reserveist at fort dix. no charges have been filed and authorities say she had the proper permits for the weapon used in this tragic shooting. authorities say they are continuing the investigation but the mercer county prosecutor's office says from all appearances this looks to be an accidental shooting, just a terrible tragedy. live in hamilton township, i'm nora muchanic channel6 "action news." brian. >> you said it, tragedy all around nor r thank you. investigators are taking another look now at open cases involving theft after a man and woman were arrested for stealing an elderly woman's purse. police in hatfield say it was this pair who took a purse from a shopping cart. that pair was taken into custody in northeast philadelphia after they allegedly tried to repeat that crime at an acme. they're also being questioned in connection with at least two other similar incidents. "action news" will have the very latest on this investigation coming up tonight at 5:00. >> a fire broke out late this afternoon at a townhouse in gloucester township camden county. the flames started in one unit and then spread to nearby homes on la cascata drive. you can see a lot of smoke and damage there as crews tried to get the upper hand. the fire broke out around 2:30 this afternoon. no one was injured. >> ♪ >> it has been a busy day for president-elect donald trump's transition team. announcing three major positions that includes trump's first pick for a cabinet member. alabama senator jeff sessions has been offered the position of attorney general. he was the first senator to endorse trump and has become a close adviser. sessions says he's honored to be considered and trump released a statement saying he's been unbelievably impressed with him and his phenomenal record. but sessions could face a challenging. he was blocked from becoming a district judge because of racially charged comments. >> country is very concerned about diversity and how appeals are made and what happened in the campaign and again senator sessions could have a real problem getting approval by the senate. >> so far no word on whether sessions has accepted the job. other appointments announced today include retired lieutenant general michael flynn who was named national security adviser. the house intelligence committee has been pegged as director of the cia so those three big announcements coming today and again this weekend president-elect trump is meeting with mitt romney to as removed himself from the appeals process which is under way. judge john kerri-lee land has presided over sandusky's criminal case since it started five years ago. he says he stepped away because lawyers from the former penn state football coach raised objections questioning his integrity. they have questions about cleland's role in a december 2011 meet tag hotel the night before sandusky waived his preliminary hearing. sandusky's lawyers argued that waiving that hearing was a critical mistake by his previous defense team. >> turning to our forecast this has been another beautiful day. think 61st and lebanon would be better bets through the overbrook section of the city. a whole lot of red already on this friday afternoon. let's focus on this red zone on roosevelt boulevard extension. there was broken down vehicle on the southbound side here by ridge avenue. luckily that's gone but what's just beginning is the northbound delay coming off the schuylkill headed up to broad street. that delay that we see pretty much every afternoon. but delays are extra heavy here this afternoon along 476 the blue route in delco and it's thanks to this, a southbound accident right by the exit for the route one media bypass off to the side but jammed solid as you come south of villanova already. and we're jammed solid on 202 in west chester because of a motorcycle crash. southbound at high street t if you want to come down 352 instead, speeds in the mid-20's there so that's a little better than 8 miles per hour. and in gloucester county a truck flipped over on the ramp from 322 eastbound to 295 southbound so that ramp is closed at this hour. let's grab the ipad do the commuter report on this finally friday afternoon. problems where 252 comes in with route three at crash in workers. members of the transport workers union are voicing their opinion on the new contract that ended their nearly week long strike. "action news" reporter john rawlins live this afternoon outside the bus depot in west philadelphia with the latest on what's going on there. hey, john. >> reporter: hi. well, it's the callowhill depot here in west philadelphia and voting has been brisk. they had 256 ballots so far out of a possible 288. the union says when all is said and done and they count all the votes they're expecting a thumbs up here. that said two days ago the union president put out a sharply worded message saying there are folks trying to sabotage the results by urge nothing votes. the callowhill depot since 7:00 this morning union members making their way to the ballot box to vote yeah or nay on the tentative contract. union leadership urging a yes vote saying the agreement won after six day strike delivers. a significant hike in pensions, maintains healthcare coverage though there will be higher costs. reportedly the average worker's wages will go from 68,000 to 75,000 over the five year deal. most we talked to supported the deal and think it will be approved. >> i'm hoping it l i'm pretty sure it will. >> reporter: but in a get out the vote statement union president willy brown indicates there are "tune any of thes on social media urging members to vote against the contract." they are reporting to falsehoods misleading statements and bullying tactics he says. such nay saying not new say members. before there was social media someone would often you put out leaflets questioning pending deals in. >> past years past contracts there's always been something that's been passed around that says we should reject this or reject that and everything so it's not surprising whatsoever. >> reporter: among complaints some think the cost sharing of medical is too high. others want a bigger pay raise. some think the vote could be close. >> it's 50-50. >> reporter: that uncertain? child, a young girl was struck and the driver left the scene. the child has been taken to chop and is being treated there. no word yet on -- well, critical condition is the update on the child's condition but no arrests have been made as police are still looking for this gray or silver nissan altima or maxima. also breaking today president-elect donald trump has agreed to settle lawsuits relating to his trump university series of real estate seminars. he's agreed to pay out $25 million. new york's attorney general released a statement that said in part the agreement is a stunning reversal by donald trump and a major victory for the over 6,000 victims of his fraudulent university. >> investigators are now questioning several people in the case of a body that was dragged from a building in the holmesburg section of philadelphia and then dumped on the sidewalk. "action news" reporter bob brooks is live this afternoon with the very latest on this most disturbing investigation. bob. >> reporter: brian, so disturbing someone was essentially -- someone died and then was thrown out onthe to the street. behind me you can see some of that investigation still, the crime tape, gloves from the detectives used here when they were out here during this initial investigation now neighbors living around here essentially left to wonder have things gotten so bad that people are being thrown away onto the street. as it stands now, someone in holmesburg died and their body was thrown out onto the sidewalk like a piece of trash. the gruesome discovery was made late last night. something neighbors sadly aren't that surprised by. >> now people getting robbed over at the park over there and it's just a lot of riffraff that's here and, you know, a lot of drugs are in the area. >> reporter: we're told by the pharmacy workers next door they were the first to notice the body on frankford avenue. they were trying to close up for the night and went to put down their security cage. then they noticed someone was lying motionless on the sidewalk. but according to police, this might not be an accident. one of the security cameras was tampered with. >> we noticed that a camera right inside the lobby was covered with what appeared to be a washcloth. >> reporter: it gets even more suspicious. once detectives viewed a security camera. >> you can clearly see that this body was dragged from inside the building outside. >> reporter: when police arrived two people jumped out of that seconds story window got into a pickup and took off down that alley. the victim also suffered severe head injuries. >> had some head trauma to his forehead and he also appeared to be bleeding from the back of his head. >> reporter: the fact that someone altered a security camera people went through a back window this has prompted police to make a thorough investigation. neighbors think this can spark a change in the direction things are going. >> the neighborhood isn't the way it used to be and we got to find some kind of way to clean it up. >> reporter: now, police do tell us there are two people they are questioning but at this point no word of any arrests, no word of who it was that was found dead here on the sidewalk. for now reporting live in holmesburg bob brooks channel6 "action news." >> investigators say 61-year-old robert green's computer contained 463 images and nearly 50 videos showing child porn. greene who lives in north wales was arrested and is free on bail today. investigators say greene's computer was configured to allow people to anonymously share files that contained the pornography. police in elsmere delaware say this man, 44-year-old brian glass, was hiding in back of another man's home with a cache of weapons, a rope and tactical gear. glass is now charged with stalking. yesterday a man approached officers and asked to be escorted home because of threats he had gotten. when they got to the house they found glass they say dressed in all black armed with a handgun, a baton, brass knuckles and knives. more weapons were found inside his car including a stun gun and a samurai sword. glass is behind bars this afternoon. >> all right, time to talk about the forecast and also the weekend. meteorologist adam joseph joining us and it's a great day, warmer than usual as well. >> yes, it is. we have one more day of that and then the change comes in the second half of the weekend so take a look at some of these beautiful numbers. 68 right now in center city overlooking the ben franklin bridge. we've got a calm wind, a clear sky above as that sun is about to set. the dewpoint up a little bit at 41 degrees so i don't have a lot of dry air when you're talking about low dewpoints and the chapter lips and the cracked hands. that isn't the case at this point. that will be coming in the second half of the weekend 'cause you can see the warmth now pulling up from new orleans to atlanta, cincinnati and then that cold area lingering in the northern plains so as we go through the weekend, huge to do here in the city. the marathon weekends for the rothman ak and the half marathon, 49 degrees for the start a light wind south southeast at three to 6 miles an hour and for the full marathon on sunday 7:00 a.m. 39 degrees but wind chills in the upper 20's with winds near 40 miles an hour. i was at the convention center got my bib for that full marathon and people looking at me going really? they have arrested a man accused of shooting the mother of a two-year-old during the child's birthday. authorities charged taurius russell with first degree murder. six people at the party including a six-year-old were hospitalized. the child's currents condition has not been released and police are trying to determine russell's relationship to the victims. >> health check at 4 o'clock today turns out women who delay having kids may live longer. according to a study out of the university of california women who start their families in their late 20's or 30's have lengthier life spans. nearly half of the women in the study survived to reach age 90. now the study suggests that women who who delay childbirth are more likely better educated and have higher income which allows them to have right lanes being blocked. there's also a southbound gaper delay that's pretty extensive already. the whole way from 202 the concorde if i can down to 141 as you head through the marsh there. plenty of red zones along 95 in delaware, plenty of them as well on 95 on the big picture. just 10 miles per hour there on the northbound side by girard avenue, 13 on the southbound side by cottman avenue and of course we done watch that crash involving the child in overbrook at 63rd and lansdowne, 63rd is blocked. stick with 61st instead. crash on the blue route 476 southbound at the route one media bypass is gone. of course delays are not. and here's a new crash in fort washington. this is 309 southbound side right under the pennsylvania turnpike. check out how badly damaged that car is there in the right lane. so, it is causing some delays as you head down towards flourtown. also delays headed toward 309 and the lehigh valley because of a wreck on 22 eastbound but our crash on 202 in west chester involving the motorcycle southbound at high street is gone. still slow there. elsewhere in chester county a crash along 41 gap newport pike. delays are as well. we'll check it again brian and did hit 70's today. near that in trenton and a little bit cooler at the shore. temperatures there only in the upper 50's. again, very little happening. the midatlantic, northeast, down to the deep south, everything is winding up right now with this bowling ball type feature, a very wound up tightly packed low pressure center with blizzard conditions in northern parts of minneapolis as well as wisconsin and northern minnesota. there we're going to watch that low continue to track into new england. cold front with some severe weather. not much of it but you can see now pushing through east of saint louis approaching parts of indiana and that front comes through here tomorrow evening. so, for tonight, a star filled sky. it is cool. it is calm. 34 in the suburbs. 43 for center city. and a beautiful saturday is on tap. temperatures once again upper 60's to near 70's degrees. low 60's at the shore. incredibly warm with a lot of sunshine. but then we'll be tracking a front that very strong front with showers late in the day. 4:30 still sunny most of the area but here comes that wall of not only clouds but some showers, rain overspreads the region late tomorrow evening, tomorrow night mixing maybe with some wet snow up in the poconos and as we get into sunday that system's gone. the winds whip up. at least it's dry for most of your sunday with a mix of sun and clouds, maybe a couple of snow showers far in those northwestern suburbs. association winds gusting between 40 and 45 miles per hour here on sunday. morning wind chills only in the upper 20's, a day after hitting 70 degrees and then in the afternoon wind chills stay in the mid 30's and in the poconos if you're heading up there expect a coating to an inch of snow on sunday. the exclusive accuweather 7-day follow breaking news out of the philadelphia's overbrook section. that's where an eight-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was hit by a car. right now the search for that driver still under way. >> "action news" reporter dann cuellar just arrived at the scene at north 63rd street and lansdowne avenue. >> reporter: police say the eight-year-old little girl is in extremely critical condition right now. they managed to revive her heart and she's undergoing a cat scan over at children's hospital as we speak. now, neighbors here on the block are horrified by this hit-and-run accident. police are telling us that it happened here around 3:16 this afternoon. the driver of a gray or silver nissan altima or maxima struck the eight-year-old little girl as slaw walking home from school. the driver failed to stop and render aid and instead sped south on 63rd. witness tell us they heard a loud bang and ran outside to see what happened. >> i was in the kitchen and then i just heard a bunch of people screaming and hollering so i came outside to put something in the trash and that's when i saw a line of ambulances and people were crying and stuff and then i saw somebody getting in the ambulance and i saw a little book bag so i'll figured it was a child that got hit by the car. yeah. and then the mother came. somebody ran and got the mother and then she came. she was hysterical and everything. >> reporter: again, the child rushed to children's hospital where she is listed in extremely critical condition. pieces of the hit-and-run vehicle are scattered all over the street here on 63rd. that will be collected by accident investigators. they also will check to see if any surveillance cameras on the block and there are several captured all or parts of the incident.
